greetings from sunny Kobe!
Just wondering if anyone else in Japan is interested in this game. I am but but don't have it yet as I'm waiting for AEP to be released. Anyone know if it is available?

One more thing - does anyone know where I can buy joysticks other than MS Sidewinder in Japan (especially in the Hanshin area)?I tried the net but it seems(and I could well be wrong) that Amazon etc don't ship games and computer stuff overseas.I really want a cordless one but all I can find here are MS ones or PlayStation2 ones.
Anyone?
PS Did anyone feel that earthquake last night? Had me scared for a while.

I live in Japan at the moment, how can I help? EBGames will ship overseas, and they will ship to APO if you're in the military like I am. I even have a discount at EB, so if you want to arrange something we can do that as well. Send me a Private Topic (under My Space at top left) and I'll do what I can. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Edit: Oh, btw, I live near Tokyo, welcome to Japan. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Hey Cajun and FlatSpinMan.

Ive just moved to Japanand am living the high life in Kyushu at the mo.

I have AEP but only cause i got in in Australia, where i hail from.

Does anyone know if there will be an English language relaese (or a release at all) of PF in Japan?

Irrashai, ImpStar!
I'm an ANZAC myself, but from the other side of the Tazzie.
There should be a release of PF for sure. I've seen the original and FB in stores but never bought it cos the manual is in Japanese. Two other games I've bought here - Call of Duty and Medal of Honour had Japanese manuals (but were FPS so no worries). M.O.H. I was able to install in English completely but C.o.D. installed in a weird mix of Japanese writing, gibberish script and English voices. The game played fine, and if you can read some Japanese the game menus were fine but the installation screens all came up in random squiggles. That's why I'm a bit wary of buying the Japanese version of AEP as from the demo I have enough problems flying it without having foreign or random lanuages coming at me.

Anyway, enjoy Japan, especially if you are single and living in a city. The countryside here is not for me but Kobe is perfect.

Yeah, I'm sure they'll have a release, but finding it in English might be the kicker, especially since I know of some Japanese players who only fly CFS 2 because of the J planes. I'm sure PF will be bought by them and others here, so it will most likely be J version only. I'm personally pre-ordering from EBGames, as the store on base (I'm in the USAF) usually dosen't get games on the release dates. Doom 3 seemed to be an exception to that, though. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Hey guyz, this is cool. I'm not in Japan but close enough. I'm in China which means we'd probably fly similar times. I've been flying only for 2 years now and never met another foreignor on any of the Chinese servers, with exception to introducing WUAF Badsight to ours.

I'd also like to fly with Japanese. I've flown with Koreans and Chinese mostly. Their usually a great bunch of guyz.

I'd be glad to zip up the english voice pack folder and put them in My Yahoo Briefcase for you guys to dl. All you have to do is replace the folder it is using with these. Let me know. I'll try to keep up with this thread to see if you are interested.

Hi FlatSpinMan,
I am a NZer and I live in Kyoto prefecture, real close to Kobe. Regarding the joystick, I bought a full CH products HOTAS setup and a Track IR unit from two japanese online game stores. I just used google japan to find them. They were delivered to my house and I paid for them at the door, very conventient. PM me if you have any questions,

FlatSpinMan, if all you can get is MS jsticks there, if they're the Precision Pro 2 sticks, I suggest to buy all you can, as they are not being made anymore

They are incredibly durable, and hassle-free...truly a great stick...you will never be sorry for using one...

Not only would lI get more than one, to have a spare in the 10 or more years it should take to kill one, but perhaps to sell at a tidy profit on ebay....MSPP2 are now much-sought-after by those who know and love this stick...

You can start by going here: http://www.greatergreen.com/il2 and on the left is the "stats" files. In those files you will see there are a total of 76 players that hail from Japan. You can search through the "pilot" files and see which country they hail from then attempt to open contact through HL chat or something like that.

Just a thought.

Thanks for all the responses. It really surprised me.
Franzen, sounds good once I learn to fly properly. from what I've read I wouldn't last two seconds online.
TqDThunderbolt, I'll be checking that out - I appreciate it!
uberweng - interesting tip. I can't go for the whole setup but I'll try google. I don't know why but that never crossed my mind. Any probs and I'll PM you. Thanks.
HH Quasi - hope I got the name right. Thanks for the offer. I imagine the voices will be the same as in other countries versions. In my experience only the text is changed with a localisation pack. I tried to remove this in another game but it was not a roaring success. Anyway, even with my limited Japanese I know enough to understand when I'm burning, exploding or plummeting earthward.
Ki Rin - I'll go look at those sticks again. I think they were MS Sidewinders though. let you know.

Lastly, Cajun76 - I LOVE that signature. Always gets a laugh.

Good luck to any and all in the path of this weeks typhoons and earthquakes.

Hi Flatspinman,

It turns out most of the guyz in my squadron are playing Greater Green these days but I was informed we were getting new maps on our server. I'll be back in Beijing this weekend and able to fly again. One month with out AEP is 30 days too many. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
You are more than welcome to fly with me. we can train together. If you use MSN Messenger my ID is ttbfranzen@hotmail.com , add me. There are a few other guyz a usually train with and we'd be happy to have you fly with us. Which plane do you like to fly? Most guyz in our server choose Spitfire, P-51, and 109's. My first choice is the 190A4 followed by the 109G or F.
We have a lot of newcomers so training is a priority these days.

Hi Franzen,
just read your post on the Canadian thing. Beijing seemed a pretty interesting place in the whole five days I was there. I do remember the pollution though - it made my teeth gritty as I was walking along that big road in front of the forbidden city. All those coal brickettes they burn i guess. If you do go to Japan I can recommend some places. Oh, and bring LOTS of money, it can really sting you travelling over here.
Is there any kind of minimum standard for joining a squadron, beyond being animate, possessing a pulse, etc?

No requirements at the 56th. http://56thfg.net/ http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif I just joined and they seem like a really great bunch. The squadrons page (http://www.il2sturmovik.com/community/squadrons.php) on the main site has just been updated, you might find one that sings to you. Additionally, the Squad forum (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=frm&s=400102&f=48310655) is also a great place to shop around.

Oh, and thanks, the next one might be:

I really thought we needed that other airplane. Now I realize that American planes will always be superior, as long as there are wonderful men like you in the cockpit, and German parts. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Lt. Commander Block

TS = Teamspeak, which you can get from here (http://www.goteamspeak.com/downloads.php). You'll need the client software. As for the IP #, I believe you would click on Multiplayer on the main window in the game, and put those #'s in to join. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Hi Flatspinman,

You are welcome to contact me and ask anytime. I will try to answer but I'm no expert. Don't worry about being a "noob" either. Although I've been flying this game for a few years I like to think of myself as a "perma-noob". http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Unless the first 4 letters of your name are O,L,E,G, you'll always have more to learn about this game.

Cajun, I doubt you'll remember but we flew against each other one time on a ubi server. You were in the P47 and I the 109G2. We attacked and and countered each other at about 5000 for about half an hour with little success. In the end I had to run away cause I was damaged by AAA. I must have hit you at least once cause I got credit for shooting you when you made an unsuccessful landing.

Our fight was one of the best. No one won after a 1/2 hour dual. That's the sort of fight I like. Anyways, I hope you come fly on our server sometime. I'd like to fly with or against you.

Hello. I am Japanese. You can buy Aces Expansion in English though mail order from T-Zone in Akihabara, Tokyo.

Here's the link for English games.

http://www.tzone.com/diy/index.jsp?CAT_CD=13&CAT_CD=64&SORT=1&LINES=25

You can also order many games from this company. They are not in Japan, but they do ship to Japan cheaply.

http://www.typhoongames.com/us/

Also, if you are in Kobe, why don't you take a quick trip to Den Den town in Osaka? I'm sure they have many shops that sell English versions of games.

EDIT:
I don't know if they sell Joysticks, but you can check this company. They sell English language PCs in Japan. It's where I bought mine from.

Yes, it was about a year ago. Those are the sort of fights I remember the best. Easy fights are boring. I'm happiest when I barely land with low fuel, next to no ammo, my plane looks like swiss cheese, and I've won 3 or more good fights. Then I sleep well. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Once I made it back to base with only one control surface. My rudder, elevators, and left aerilon were all history. Using throttle, flaps, landing gear, and one aerilon I made one of my best landings ever. That took a lot of concentration.
