It is IX-64 Wolverine. Great one for beginner takeoff and landing lesson. Of course, useful at lake not good enough for ocean operation.

PF would really be a step-Up in realism and play, If in the Naval Pilots Campaigns you would start were the real pilots started in flight school Earn your Wings before you are going to war!

Especialy with carrier operation it will be very welcome aswell, to become Carrier Qualified in a step by step training, if your 'trown in to the deep water' (Combat)with out proper training. Decklandings might be very frustrating crashing 10 times after a succesful and long mission!
(Even the real Quallified Pilots made a lot of chrashes!)

I have played a third party historic Barbarossa Campaign wich was so much better over the excisting Campaigns, Because it started out with a lot of training mission and transfer flight towards the battle front airbase. Finaly at the combat zone you really felt confident but realisticly you would fly missions in wich you would not encounter enemy aircraft Combat Pilots Have generaly much more fliyng hours without enemy engagements then with enemy's.

Ofcourse for people who just want to be trown into the deep, their should be the option of skipping training or unenventful missions.

You can find a good, detailed, carrier ops manual to download at Sim-Outhouse in the CFS Addons/CFS2 Downloads/Utilities section just grab the VF-15 Carrier Ops Manual (there are two versions, a Word version and a PDF version. The Word version is much smaller than the PDF).

This maual describes in detail how to make a good solid approach and trap when landing on moving or static carriers. It also covers deck handling/parking and take-off positioning.

It details how to get several AC on deck and lined up for take-off.

Take a look. You may find something usefull.

The Wolverine was old, small and slow. It did free a real carrier for ops and being on Lake Michigan was free from submarine threat! As I understood it mostly the SNJ was used for such quals. The Wolverine did have the winds that frequented the lake going for it. No hangar or elevators were provided, she was just a decked over paddle wheel lake steamer.

Reminds me of the Radio Idi Amin sketch when Idi challenges the US Navy to come and take on the Ugandan Navy - on Lake Victoria http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

Yes, I like that idea! Oh really about third party historic Barbarossa Campaign..I will check it as I though it don't come with training missions. We should spread word about it. I hope Oleg's BOB will have better training school in it.
