"The first and only flight by a Shinden took place on August 3, 1945, just 12 days before the Japanese Surrender."
It seems it is a legitimate ww2 aircraft.

Hey GK. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Not to rain on the parade here, but you may want to refer 'NOTICE TO ALL FORUM DENIZENS:'

1) The following subjects are hereby PROHIBITED FROM BEING EVEN WHISPERED (THAT GOES FOR MOUTHING SILENTLY, TOO. SO THERE)

--'J7W1 Shinden'
--'Bearcat'
--'jets'
--'A7M'
--'radioactive noodles'

It effectively quelched my "SO...WHAT PLANES THEN?" topic.

Just a friendly suggestion.

this is the only airworty prototype

i think its the one at the Smithsonian mueseam in Washington

it never had any cannon fitted but the 30mm cannon were its intended armament

it flew Two flights only for a total of 45 minutes flight time

the only flight problem reported in Internet websites was takeoff torque that was bad-ish

also had overheating probs whilst on the ground & a eaisly fixable prop shaft bearing rumble

dont know if they ever maxed it out for top speed ...... but on the internet you can find it being said to go 750 kmh

its Aerodynamic-ish looking & has 2130 Hp ..... im not gunna argue

unlioke the Horten Go-229 i dont think any flight data was recorded or tested ......

BUT ID LOVE TO SEE IT IN Pacific Fighters ! ! !

.............and Luthier has already referred to it as a "abomination" and said he will not waste any resources on it.

It's chances of making it in the initial release are nil divided by zilch.

Maybe a third party will develop the model and Luthier will permit it in an add-on called
"Mighty Might-Have-Beens of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere".

NOT. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

sweet, im sure someone will want to build it.
chris, cant divide by zero, thats an imaginary number. But you have a good imagination and it is apparent in your posts.

Why, thank you, GK. Your plane is still ugly. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

@ Badsight: (not meant in a hurtful way)
What would they use as performance data?
I can't think of any other aircraft like the Shinden, wouldn't it all be just unsubstantiated guesswork?

this Prototype had the P-39's Allison in it

Do we have data for it?
PS, What is Gibbage doing? He enjoys modelling unusual stuff. Have you approached him with the idea of modelling it?

anything divided by zero is infinity though

Third time's a charm, eh? Anything divided by zero is undefined or "not a number." Infinity and imaginary numbers are valid numbers, however.

Regarding the XP-55, I recall Gibbage once said that he looked into doing it, but couldn't find sufficient references. I would assume that means either cockpit references or FM data.

Any person doing the XP-55 will be shot. Personally by yours truly. I'm serious.

I have nothing against "what if" scenarios, but the A$$-ender is not even a what if plane. It's a "never in a million years" plane that would never ever under any circumstances see front line service.

If a plane's gotta be beautiful to fly, that thing doesn't have a chance at even taxiing.

Oh, and to settle the argument...

0, infinity=valid numbers, as stated

Any number >0/0= undefined or no solution

Lol. It was a cool design, but a failure for sure. But its because it was underpowered by almost 1000HP! It was designed around a PROPOSED 2300HP engine. It got a 1200HP Allison.

The most extreme failure was the XP-56. It failed all around with no valid excuse. It got the engine (R-2800) and it did get its counter rotating props, but it never acheaved anywere NEAR its proposed performance.

http://northrop.host.sk/images/XP-56_1.JPG

XP-54 was another facinating faulure that failed because of its engine. It was designed around the Contanental engine that was SUPPOSED to deliver 2100-1800HP, but only produced about 1000HP. It still had decent performance, but no better then standard fighters of the day.

it wouldnt have gone any faster

the motor they had for it was nothing special ........ the prop Shinden probably would have had better climb at lower speeds

Snow_Wolf_
04-24-2004, 03:20 PM
Proposed J7W2 One 1,984-lb thrust Ne-130 axial-flow turbojet. Actually if you think about it that engine badsight has the same thrust rating as the Me-262 Junkers Jumo 004B-1/-2/-3 turbojets.

Not to say you can't compare a jet engine to a Piston engine that like comparing Apples to oranges.

WUAF_Badsight
04-24-2004, 08:03 PM
but you can compare their performance

the jet would have had better (prehaps) high speed accell but worse climb & low speed accelleration

its nearly as powerfull as ONE Me-262 motor BTW

id rather have the prop Shinden

kikka-01
04-24-2004, 08:35 PM
I had no idea the Shinden was so large! In CFS2, you doun't really get a perspective like you do with those troops around the thing. It's one wickid bird! I'll be somewhat dissapointed if it doesn't eventially show up; it's be fun to fly it against the B-29 and the proposed later US strat bomber, the XB-35 flying wing!
