I understand everyone has an opinion, and I expect that when posting in a place like this, especially when its a busy forum as this one is. That's the fun in discussing things back and forth, and from what I understand (which probably isn't a whole lot) that's what a place like this is for.
BUTT...when you guys rank on people for their use of the English language you are only displaying how ignorant you are! Just to remind you, there are many languages across the globe, and many of them are native to many people writing in this forum (we all aren't from LA, dude, or London, mate). They do their best to decipher the English written here, and then, even more unbelievable to me, they actually respond and are able to make themselves understood!
I, for one admire the people that are capable of conversing in languages other than their own mother toungue. I would like to see some of the English speaking people in this forum converse in Arabic or Russian (I'm sure there are a few out there who are able, but they wouldn't bash someone for errant grammar, or a few mis-spelled words).
I notice some of you have 'zipppie' on your sh!tlist, and that's fine with me. I've gotten lots of valuable help from the tech forum, and I greatly appreciate it. I thought this forum was for general discussion (which includes ALL opinions...hence the word 'general'),so I moved over here to voice a couple opinions, but I guess I was wrong, making an assumption so bold as that!
All you arrogant, single-minded English professors out there can kiss my open-minded, not so computer-overclocking-savvy, game playing, paying-customer ***!
This is not disgusting...its pathetic!

dali...is that like in llama, or lahma, or whatever...my grammar and spellink isn't so gut...anywheres..isn't there some irony there somehoo? Me thinks der eess!

zippie,

Don't let them get to you. I get corrected for my English all the time. Their just a bunch of nerds. Ignore them, and move on. I learned a long time ago that if you post enough on a forum that you'll have a bunch on people that won't like you, and you'll have a list that you don't like. Don't be thinned skin. Rag on them, and move on. It's not really a big deal.

Ranking on someones english skills only displays your own shortcomings...in an ugly way.
So zipppie, I wouldn't be too bothered about this as the majority ignores it and focus on posts of values and contents.

I dont care that you cant speak or type perfect English. In fact, many people who have english as their second language speak it better than many people who have spoken English as their first language all of their lives. Just calm down. I admire anyone who even attempts to use English on this forum when it isn't even their first language. By the way, Zippy, you're not at all related to Zippy from Rainbow are you?

I agree that sometimes on here you put a point across and you get torn to shreds about it. I have made friends with others on another forum who used to post here but have since left because of all the whining and if someone has an opinion different to theirs they get abused and told they are rubbish etc and so they never post here anymore. I for one may soon join them!

i'm sure half of the (english speaking) people on the internet either think everyone is english/american or think everyones first language is english - alot don't seem to comprehend that american/english only make up a percentage of the total people who use the internet.

until these ignorant fools realise this is the case you are best following the advice above and try to ignore it - it is their problem, not yours.

Zippie this place is right friendly compared to a few months ago. This is really a very active board with a ton of members and just like IRL there are always gonna be some ****** around. I could'nt imagine what you would of thought about the nationalistic BS that was going on this spring. Your not helping a thing though. People are'nt gonna read your post here and go "Oh I feel bad now for being a *****."

Your obviously "Disgusted" with this board and with FB, so what are you trying to get? To convince us all to be nicer to eachother and that FB is a piece of crap? Just curious.

XyZspineZyX
08-09-2003, 11:04 PM
Bill,

FB is not a piece of crap, to be honest I play it just about every day (my machine runs it fine, thanks to the tech forum).
I read some things in here that bother me, so I respond...simple as that. I don't think I'm going to change anything around here (heaven forbid!), I'm just voicing an opinion, that's all. This English-speaking thing is kind of pathetic though, you gotta agree. It's pretty arrogant and naive to think everyone in the world should be proficient with their English skills, and then rag them for trying the best they can. There are some really cool people that hang out in this forum that can just barely squeak by with their English, but even at that, you can still see their personalities come through in their posts. And I really admire them for doing that...I couldn't imagine myself trying to communicate in Japanese, or Arabic or something.
Anyway, as far as trying to get everyone to like each other around here, THAT'S kind of far-fetched isn't it? Just imagine...people from every corner of the world actually liking each other! What a laugh!
I know, I sound like John Lennon or something...drama queen, I believe, was how it was put in an earlier thread.
This has all gotten pretty far away from IL2 FB, hasn't it?

Sorry...

I here ya zippie...... contrary to popular belief ignorancd is not bliss it is...ignorance..... Every time I read something that is gammatically FUBAR I always consider that the person may be A. From another country or B. Just not that good in grammer. Either one is no cause to loose respect for someone or put them down. I have met some illiterate sounding folks in here who were dynamite human beings and really brilliant in their own realms. I have also met some folks in here who come across like Rhodes scholars as far as thier use of words goes...but the content of what they are saying shows them up to be idiots. Take it all in stride and just have fun with the sim. If you are lucky you may make a friend here that you actually get to meet one day...for the most part these folks will never visit you, have a beer with you, or even see what you look like so just let it go and enjoy.

<font size="2" color="lime">Damn Drama Queen</font>

QUOTE: zipppie... (from zipppie's original "<font size="2" color="white">Disgusted</font>" thread)

"just have to say this is all very disappointing. Its just an example of the level of integrity in the big business world today. If I pay $50 for a computer game, I expect to be able to play it. If the specs say you need 512mb of RAM, a P3 or higher, I expect that to mean what it says. I don't expect to pay $25 grand for a new car and not be able to drive it around the block, just as I don't expect to pay 50 cents for a pack of gum and not be able to chew it. This business of lying about what specs you need to play a particular game, and pasting "screen shots" all over a game box just to sell it, and then getting the thing home, loading it up on your OVERLY qualified computer and having it run like a slide show is disgusting...just another way to get the bucks out of your wallet. I'm personally sick of this misleading, lying practice that just seems to get worse.
Then people go a$$ kissing the ones that weasle those bucks out of your wallet...promising to pay more, for more disappointment are even more disgusting.
Patches, fixes, specs, screenshots, promises, promises...just fork over the cash! We'll get to the actual game playing sometime later (if ever)!
Please...if it takes 1gb of memory, a P-6, and a $1000 graphics card, just say so! I'm sure there's plenty of people out there that are willing to sell the shirt off their backs to somehow aquire the equipment needed to play the "game".
Things will never get any better, as long as we keep doling out the cash for stuff that doesn't live up to its promises. If the game gets you down, just take out the packaging and look at the pictures all over the box...somewhere out there, on someone elses computer the same slide show is going on, and someone else is $50 richer!!"

-

You can read the original "<font size="2" color="white">Disgusted</font>" thread <font size="2" color="#66CCCC">here</font> (http://forums.ubi.com/messages/message_view-topic.asp?name=us_il2sturmovik_gd&id=zblgx&tpage=1).

-

Now, zipppie, you may be referring to another thread concerning people being critical about your spelling, but anyway, do you have to post so often about being disgusted. and do you have to exagerate so much in a post? (If you are referring to another thread, maybe you could have been more creative with your thread title.)

In regards to your spelling and grammar, yes, just post and do not worry too much about that, especially if your first language is not English and you are posting in English. Just do your best and that is good enough.

-

Take it or leave it, but some advice. Maybe you could make threads with some useful content instead of just being disgusted and/or overly dramatic.

I look forward to them. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Hmm I agree about the close minded nimrods...however keep in mind that English is indeed an established international language of dipolmacy along with French and to a lesser degree Spanish. I think a lot of folks seem to think that English should be common knowledge if you are going to be dealing on an international level. For the record I speak English,French,Spanish, and some Latin. Keep in mind that along with the good folks in this world we must also deal with the asshats. Don't let it get to you man, being frustrated just lets them win.

I agree. You know, I'm Spanish, and I really try hard to write in an understandable English because it seems that it's something like an "official language" in these forums. I spend many hours trying to make English speakers' life easier. And I don't mind, because I like English: it's a concise and flexible tongue. But I'd like to see all these English "academics" and "scholars" trying to write in an understandable Spanish at all. And it's a language spoken by more than 300 million people.

If you can't cope with the English, why don't you just go to the German website. Remember, this forum is not exclusively English, whereas there is an exclusively German forum. After all, English is now considered the universal language. If you are concerned about the quality of your writing, try typing what you wish to say in Word or another word processor, and then copy and paste it. Not only does Word have a spell-checker, it also has a grammar checker.
