View Full Version : Can someone explain the logic of this to me, please?

I have read this statement by a couple of folks wrt the forum problems:
"Ubi is purposely trying to make us lose interest in il-2 to increase lock-on sales."

Let us assume for a moment that this is true.
If so, how do they think this will work?

I am very pi$$ed off at UBI over these forums. Why in God's name would I hand them some money for another one of their games, no matter how good it looks?

i.e.
"Let's pi$$ this guy off with our customer service so that he loses interest in one of our products and buys the other one."

Huh?

That is simply the antithesis of cross-selling.
Can anyone enlighten me?

I'm in agreement with you on this one, TC. I don't see how anyone can say that with a straight face. Well, maybe RBJ.

Actually TC, it was just me starting that rumor, just to see if people would think it true or not.

It kinda went along with my now deleted post "FB Forum Funds Used to Repaint Lock on Forum"

Just me trying to rationalize the direction Ubi is pushing this board.

I don't think they were serious, but then again there are a lot of idiots out there that would keep coming back for more bad service. For example, how many people do you know that will buy any piece of crap game out on the market? Do these people realize they're supporting the creation of future crap? They must not, or they'd use their brains.

I said it too in a fit of disgust over the lock rampage witnessed by us earlier today. Now I refelct on it and very true, makes no sense at all. But then again this forum is not known to make much sense. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Thanks guys for clarifying.

I did not realize it was said in sarcastic frustration.

I feel better now that I head won't explode.

I've got to believe the number of folks who FREQUENT these forums over time is small compared to the number of total sales for either IL2 or FB. Out of that number there are a great variety of peoples with a varying degree of inteligence and lifestyles. This makes for contrast, which makes for debate, and along with internet anyminity (sp?), egoism.

I believe UBI intended this to be an ideal place to advertise that the product is good. Once it got out of hand (and everyone, including UBI has contributed to this) it no longer is worth the trouble; as with most good things it has run head long into entropy and disintegrated to where it is now.

UBI doesn't have a motivation to create a community here. They have a motivation to move boxes out of inventory and onto shelves. They do have a vauge need to move them off those shelves as well. The bad vibes here bode UBI no good and therefore they would choose to have the greybeards go else where so nuggets who visit here won't be swamped by percieved bad impressions, and will totter over the edge of indecision and rush out to buy the game because everyone on the forum was so nice and friendly. They have stated as much in the request that some one else host a forum, and they'll provide a link from the home page.

Our numbers here are insignificant to the total number of games sold. I'm sure they've done surveys and studies about what marketing techniques move games.

In this day and age we gamers buy stuff up like it's going out of style everytime a hyped up game gets released late and buggy. We rush out and buy and then come to these community gate ways to the companies and whine and whine about patches and bugs. Well, fellas, at this point they have your money and have no real motivation to please you. We all cry about the state of releases in the gaming industry, but we run out like lemmings and support them by opening our most private place, our wallets, to them. Unless this stops, I can't very well hold it against UBI as they are a business out to make monies, not please the customer after the point of sale.

So far it hasn't stopped.

I figure I've been pretty lucky to have been able to observe the great experiment in human nature that has taken place here since even before the release of IL2

This place has become the single most boring forum I've ever seen. Now this IL-2 patch nonsense, I swear I'm falling asleep just thinking about it.

There was a time when an upcoming patch drew flyers like....flies. All talking, commenting, arguing. Now it's so quiet that they don't even comment when locking and deleting threads anymore.

I'm going for a nap.

I never was impressed with UBI products. None of them that were on my system ever worked right with the exception of IL-2, now they are acting all surly with the customers.

Have you ever had to wipe your a$$ with your other hand because your normal hand was in a cast? Now that is hard.

----------------------------------------
The pilots lounge was this place you could go to find some humor. Sure, there were some flame wars, but generally it was a good natured place to hang out for a laugh or two.

Then that whole war started in the middle east and a whole bunch of trolls and flag wavers showed up and really ruined the place. I thought it was necessary to close it at the time, but now I kinda miss it. UBI has decided not to re-open a new one so now we talk about vulching and pings.
