After all of the trackir2 testemonials i cracked and bought one. It arrived at my house two days later and installed without trouble. I played for about 5 minutes and found it a little awkward. After i got back from work i played for about three hours and was blown away. It adds to the il2 experience in so many ways. Situational awareness goes up. i was never an ace with the hatswitch (allthough newview helped) but its easy to look around without twisting your head off like i thought you might before i bought it. It also works really well with the gunners positions, as the way it the view and gun move together and independently (i can't explain it well) makes it possible to line up an incoming fighter and have your gun in the right position when they come within firing range.

The biggest difference was the massive boost to immersion. Being able to glance over your shoulder before you take off and admire the planes parked by the runway, look at the smoking wreckage behind you after a strafing attack, or even just admire the scenery on the way to your target adds to the game in a way i cant explain. Anyway, thanks to all the people who posted such positive reviews on this board. If it wasn't for the resident trackir propagandists i may not have bought this kick *** product.

Question time:
1-Is it possible to bind the 'center' command to a joystick button? I couldn't do this using the trackir software.
2-Can i bind the 'center' and 'enable' commands to a single key if i need to shut it off whilst shooting?
3-If number 2 is possible, does it recenter when you toggle it back on?

Thanks in advance,

Welcome aboard!

All three quetions can be done but you have to have a joystick with profiling hardware. Atleast thats how I did it.

No need to have any profiling software, you can use JoyToKey (which i use). Get it here: http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA016823/joytokey/jtk374en.zip

Question 1: No problem, just bind the key to the Joy with JoyToKey (or your profiling software)

Question 2: Don't know haven't tried to bind two keys to to one Joy button using JoyToKey. I never had the need to turn TrackIR of while shoting. Probably enough for you to add some deadzone to your X & Y axis in the TrackIR programing software

Question 3: No it does not, but thats no problem since you just use your newly binded Joy button to resenter the view if nessecary.

Ques. 2: I also don't know as I've never felt the need to turn the tracking off during play. However, it now strikes me that if two keys can be bound together, one could change to precise mode whenever you do full target site zoom. That would help a lot with aiming for those that use the full zoom function. Let us know if you crack this problem.

Are you using the enhanced mode? Once I have the view centred then I don't have to recenter it unless I've moved significantly in my seat, as in slouching more or sitting up more.

If you use a nice gradual curve then you won't have trouble aiming and keeping your head still.

with tir If you edit the first 3 slider settings to 0 it will give you a nice dead zone for shooting and foward view

Once used to, you don't even need much dead zone. I got 0 at just 1 slider setting.

Mine goes like 0-4-15-15-16-17 IIRC.
