quote:
10. Will the 'call and response' of orders between you and crewman in-game (as seen in the E3 video) actually lead to a realistic delay in orders being carried out or is it just for show and orders will be carried out as soon as the relevant button is pressed?
The orders will involve delays, although tuned down for gameplay reasons.

I hope that where relevant that they do have realistic delays on orders.

Cheers,

What do you consider 'relevant'? Which orders are you giving?

If you are in the 'control' room, there should be almost no delay. But if you're on the deck, I could see one. But it would also have to do with the experience of the crewman/Officer you're giving the order to.

Both of you are right.

Number of people to pass the order, experience of the people transmiting and acomplishing the order implies a different kind of delay.

So you'll want expert sailors instead of a bunch of green handed folks!

Reminds me of the line from The Bedford Incident (unless I'm totally misremembering):

Captain: "Negative. We let them take the first shot. We don't fire one unless THEY fire one!"

Torpedoman: "Fire one, aye sir"!

Sounds pretty close to me what was said. One of the best moments of the movie too! Just goes to show the 'reality' of the moment too. The Captain definitely needs to keep aware of what is said, and to whom.

I am thinking that when changing course, speed etc that the normal delys should be there. I do not know how long they should be, but hopefully not instant. Certainly would give the player the feeling of not being th only one there, (more so than the crew figures) and would certainly add to the tension.

There are probably other things that go here, but I ma tired and it is all too hard at the moment....

And the Hits Keep Coming!

Quite a lot of factors are involved just to give an order. Time is the question.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/hauitsme/kuku.gif
