View Full Version : Should the head still be the checkpoint trigger for fusion?

during last fridays stream was asked if we liked that the head triggered checkpoints or if we would rather see that the bike has to completly pass the checkpoint

so i though maybe a poll should be created were we can vote and discus this

i think the head only looks unnatural
it also allows to pass some obstacles without actually clearing the jump

The center of front wheel maybe.
Always thought it makes flying track finishes look a bit silly and unrealistic when you go head first knowing you gonna crash right after.

The head. Better that than seeing the bike finish without a rider and trigger the end of the track! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/razz.gif

You have to activate bailout finish, its not default. So its only ever in place for fun, because the creator chose to do it. Like tricks, its not part of the core gameplay. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/wink.gif

You kinda missed my point there. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/wink.gif

Of course they would just have to make it so that the rider has to be alive and well happily riding the bike for the front wheel to trigger the cp.

Personally, I just say stick to how it is, because some of us will moan regardless of the decision. Its another lose/lose imo.

if they moan regardless of the descision its not use to even consider those people

had a bit of a heated debate about this awhile ago with Malachyte (cant remember who else was there), with him arguing that the "head finish" must look ugly and could spoil an otherwise flawless run - and even though I disagreed with him I kinda see his point.

but I like the head finish personally, stretching for that extra hundredth at the finish line feels sort of rewarding imo and I hope they keep it.

i have slightly mixed feelings, i like the way it is now finishing head first because it kind of resembles finishing a race in track n field where the runner leans forward to cross the line plus it gives you 1 last maneuver to add to your run, but at the same time i hate how you can accidentally pass a checkpoint with your head when you didn't even make the jump. I think i would like the finish to remain the same but the checkpoints to be changed to front wheel triggered

I think that can just be fixed by clever CP placement tbh. Maybe not always, but certainly on levels below extreme it should be possible the majority of the time.

I'd say keep it as it is or change it to the center of mass of the bike. Those two make the most sense to me

yeah your right it is possible but for the people who know what they are doing and who care but for a lot of tracks on TC the checkpoint crash and pass can get a little frustrating and could be avoided without the head trigger

You should be going for a zero anyway Smeg! http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

I know what you mean, I guess we'll have to wait and see what they decide. I'm sure we'll all manage to adapt somehow!

i always do go for a zero mate and that is exactly why its frustrating, sometimes its the 1st checkpoint and you crash but still pass it then it makes you have to press the restart button and wait rather than just pressing B for quick start.

i dont rly mind if they keep it the same but it would be nice if the checkpoints didnt allow you to pass when your bike clearly crashed before the checkpoint

thats why they should add an speedrun mode that disables checkpoints and allows b button on complete track

Keep it on the head. It is an easy marker to know EXACTLY when you are passing the finish.

I like how it is now. I don't want to argue with somebody about whose crotch crossed the line first and then with the dvr watching a replay about it.

I think it would make more sense for the checkpoints to be activated by the center of the bike and here's why: Let's say that my bike doesn't quite make it but my head activates the checkpoint. Since the bike is spawned from its center but the checkpoint is activated by the rider's head I will actually travel some distance in just a few milliseconds if i press B. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/geek.gif

I would be ok with the center of the bike if there was a big red dot letting me know where it was exactly lol.

I don't know... What if i cross the checkpoint while upside down? (As in the air) that would disatvantage me as my front wheel would be facing left. Center of the bike like in HD for me. It's the most consistent and its position doesn't vary much regardless of the bike's rotation.

I think the center of the bike is the fairest to activate checkpoints. We should not just get to the checkpoint even we didn't cross the gap, so, you need to make the jump correctly.

As for the finish line, it was always a pain when there's a track which you need to fly into it and then the rider is upside-down to activate the finish line with the head. i would also like the center of the bike, or even the rear wheel, so people will try to make an instant front flip brake at the finish. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Same argument can be said for center of bike, you are at a disadvantage if you are doing a nose wheelie. I dont like center of bike because you cant easily see exactly where the center of the bike is, its easy to see where the front wheel is.

I think the front tire is better than head, the face-plant finishes are kinda dumb, at least in my opinion.

There's going to be some advantages and disadvantages with every option unless they come up with something strange http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/shifty.gif
I'd still prefer the center of the bike over the front tire but i agree about the faceplant fishes as they do look kinda stupid.

was trials hd set in the center of the bike, front wheel or head?

I personaly like how it is^^ + someone already mentioned it, the few extra miliseconds when leaning forward http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/smile.gif

but justin SP, would be nice if it is up to the creator when it comes to custom tracks. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/think.gif

I like sticking my head forward right on the line as well, so I would be happy to see it left how it is. I can understand why people would prefer other points on the bike though. I'll probably be satisfied wherever they choose to have it.

Keep it the same, and keep the damn physics of the bike the same too. But fix the front tire.

I don't feel like relearning a new Phoenix again. Especially because I had to learn 2 new bikes in Evo.

It was a cool idea but the bikes for the most part were pretty trash.

In any race you stretch as far as possible to cross the finish line. In Trials, if you're flat on the ground, you can push your head furthest out. Head should have to cross checkpoints... Maybe a different way of crossing checkpoints and the finish line though? First little part of bike or rider to cross a finish line should end it.

Carmine9437

I'm voting a mixture of HD and Evo triggers. The finish should be the head (so you can stretch for the fastest time) and all other checkpoints should be center of the bike.

rlmergeuser

I don't like thinking about it. I would like it if rotation did not cause the player to gain or lose time. Think of the player as being a perfect circle with the center of it being the trigger point. That would take any luck of finishing the race a tiny bit faster or slower out of the equation.

Actually, the winner is commonly which passed the whole body or vehicle instead the front part of your body or vehicle.

I like the head being the trigger for obvious reasons (easy to see, you can just get that few hunderds of a seconds faster while leaning forward).
As for people saying checkpoints being triggered too fast, it can easily be solved by not giving you the checkpoint if you fail like 1-2 seconds after triggering it.

I think the head being the trigger is perfect, that's how it is in real racing & it made for some great time savers and great replays.
