Iam finally getting the hang of the FW190 Series... last night in in 3 sorties i killed 7 planes too 0 me being shot down... lol.. its still a PITA cockpit to see, but working... my main point is.... I NEVER GOT IT TOO STALL!!! lol... i was doing some tight turns and i never had it do the little loooptie loop...

whats this thing i hear about the cockpit for 190 being wrong? what is wrong on it???

P.S. This doesnt mean iam bragging or anything, just iam getting the hand of this game a bit more lol... i still can be shot down pretty easy.. lol

S~ Red,

Great plane isn't it? You don't sound like you're bragging, you sound like someone who is justifiably proud http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It's a good bird indeed, I have recently discovered that at 35+ FPS the plane has an entirely different feel to it, much better than my usual 15-20 fps. It's almost like a whole new plane, amazingly agile even compared to what I used to be able to do with it.

As for the cockpit being wrong, the debate is primarily over the Revi gunsight...the bottom 3rd of the view is blocked by a bar which in real life may not have been visible due to the properties of refraction. It's possible that the FB gunsight view should look more like what we see in the 109 Revi actually.

Another aspect is the position of the virtual pilot and what he could see forward. In RL the 190's were supposed to have amazing forward view...in FB I think some of the struts are too thick and the view over the nose is too obstructed.

I believe Oleg has said the cockpit stays as is and will not be modified so this is what we have to live with. It's workable, just takes getting used to.

Thats the gist of it, basically the gunsight view may be too limited and the view over the nose may be restricted as well compared to the real thing.

For me, I can live with it though I would naturally prefer a wider FOV ofcourse.

i know what you mean, seems like the pilot is hunched down or something and very hard to see over, very difficult for them hard angle shots... anyways, its all good...

In the old sim Janes WWII, and I think in CFS2-3, you have the option of raising and lowering the pilot's seat. It's obviously do-able. Why not offer this feature and leave the cockpit alone. Am I missing something?

It's the only thing!

Just read a thread where folks were saying, "do NOT TnB, just go up and down, up and down" and "do NOT yank the stick" (I never do, but the 190 is so touchy, so I guess they mean "be very gentle"). So I took a 190 out last night (I've flown it just a few times) and only stalled once (was down low, got to about 1 meter from crashing, was clearing six for a mate, closest I got to TnB), and got one kill, all my shots were the hard angle shots where the forward view is a problem. Avoided TnB, was extra gentle on the stick, extended away and climbed up before re-engaging. And got back home alive. (Well, that was pretty easy, the battle was over my home airfield...)

yepp, the fact that actually not the whole plane (to be more precise: the whole cockpit) is modelled within the game's 3d engine. changing the angle of view might reveal unmodelled parts, so you would have to change the whole cockpit.

Ahh my favorite Luftwaffe bird. The FW190 is a real gem of a plane if you can get used to it. Some days I'm good with her and some days I'm bad but it has some real strong points. I'm a big fan of the FW190D-9 which has a similar experience to other FW's but I find it more agile and its definately faster.

This is how I think FW-190 forward view should look ( more or less ):

Yes I guess its a good thing to see more people learning to fly the Fw-190 =)

I love it, its an excelent fighter; too bad the sounds for the BMW engines are way off =\

Russian aircraft require skill to fly.
German aircraft require ten times that skill, and one hundred times the patience!

the bar thru the lower part of the gunsite is over the top

IRL the pilot wouldnt see it & have a clear gunsite thru the top nose MGs

this is insult to injury for a plane that doesnt turn that great

The pilot's eye level is already at the optimum level. The seat level adjustment in RL was so short or tall pilots could adjust the height of the seat to the correct height for aiming.

Not quite, the bulges for the mgs should not be so intrusive, height wise. Not only that the distance between the bulges is TOO narrow. Even with the MG17s the centreline for the bulges were just inside of the framing of the armourglass. (100mm from the CL of the fuselage)
