http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/biggrin.gif Hi,

I love messing around with the custom cameras, trying to get some cool cinematic angles as the rider jumps into the air... "BUT!" it's missing one thing?..... 'Slow Motion!'..... I'm a sucker for this effect in action movies.. everything is quite erratic, fast moving then suddenly it slows down at a crucial point... Transformers movies for example!

Anyhoo, my point is that for me, that's the only effect missing from the custom cameras...

Picture the scene... camera chase view behind the rider, dirt and dust flicking up, you can see the ramp approaching in the distance, then just as you hit the ramp... Boom! The camera pans away, slow motion kicks in as you watch your rider fly across the canyon, then as you hit the ramp on the other side... Vroom! back to the race...

Would it ever be possible? http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/pray.gif

I Agree.

I tried to figure this out on my own last night, I don't think the functionality is there. Unless I am missing something? I'm making a track, entirely out of cardboard boxes.

I have a section where you jump through a hole in a wall of boxes, as you pass through the wall explodes and all the boxes fly everywhere. You have to be quick to avoid being caught in the explosion

If I use a custom camera to show the destruction, it makes the landing too difficult due to the camera angle. The obstacle is designed to be difficult entry - explosion - easy landing. Basically I don't want people to crash after the explosion and have to repeat . If they crash before the explosion that's fine. That's where I expect them to crash first few times

I thought if I added some slow motion it would create a better effect, and ease the landing a little.

With all the stuff avaliable in the editor, this must be possible? I know I could just create lag by flooding the map with fire or fog, not really what I am looking for. I have also read you can use the wind to slow objects down, is this possible with the rider? In thoery would this not make my landing even more difficult? I don't want my rider to be pushed backwards into the explosion, I want the entire game, including the game timer, to slow down. Literally for a second max.

I've read it could be possible using the tools in editor tut #25. I can't figure out the logic. I'm supposed to be a programmer as well lol.

Anybody know if it is possible?

If not, I will just keep the standard camera, as any "Front on" view that shows the explosion, gives a pretty lame view of the riders angle

RedLynx guys?

Thanks http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/geek.gif

Freeze the plater character, and then unfreeze him on alternate frames, making sure you keep his physics momentum.

Hey thanks man.

Not 100% sure on how to do this.

I'm confident I can work out how to freeze the rider.

The momentum part, and the alternate frames part, I may struggle with.

I'll consult the help videos. Bit of an editor noob so if I'm stuck I will be back http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/smile.gif

OR...just put so many ojects/physics into that one spot that it slows the frame rate temporarily and then make the object invisible. i used to unintentionally do this with alot of my explosion scenes in my HD tracks, but it always looked cool anyway. just be ready to have nay sayers dog your track for slow frame rate just because they can't control the bike from the transition from fast to slow to fast. lol http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/biggrin.gif

The editor has so many cool features and functions, that using an over lag approach would seem pointless, and it could possibly create issues with the rest of the track.

I highly suggest looking into the freeze rider (while keeping momentum) option with on off tick intervals.

If this is something you don't know how to do, research it, because even if it doesn't work, learning the ins and outs of the editor is priceless.

i have used the freeze function and to my knowledge it can only be used once per track http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/sad.gif

i have used the freeze function and to my knowledge it can only be used once per track :(

I haven't tested this but they use it more than one in each of the License tracks (once at every skill checkpoint).

The freeze/unfreeze every other tick might work, but you can also make the explosion by hand using the object position events and a curved data source that's compressed in the beginning and long at the end. The problems are you'd have to animate every box yourself and you wouldn't actually slow down the rider.

It can be used as many times as needed.

The freezing/unfreezing every second tick does create kind of a slow motion effect, but it doesn't affect everything in the game world; just the rider and bike, so you probably have to turn physics on/off on objects also.

I created a favorites group just for operations.

In it I have an "ON" and an "OFF"

They are basically just "set value to 1" connected to a variable data "0" and vise versa.

Link to the variable data source "0" by pressing Y while on the "Freeze" option in the rider.

Then any time you want the rider to freeze, have a trigger send an impulse to hit the "set value to 1" effect.

To unfreeze, simply have an impulse "set value to 0" therefore turning it off.

I have not done this in a track more than once, but I see no reason why it can not be implicated several times.

cool http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/cool.gif BUT I DID TRY TO USE IT IN TWO SEPERATE PLACES ON MY TRACK AND THE ARROWS POINTING TO MY BIKE AND RIDER FROM MY FIRST DATA SOURCE DISAPPEARED AND STUCK TO THE NEW DATA SOURCE. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/confused.gif

Why not just use the first data source as the only data source (globally) connected to the value of the "Frozen" aspect of the bike and rider?

Then just change the value with a separate operation when needed (locally).

Wow, even when I say that it seems confusing.

What I'm saying is these operations can be global, they aren't needed to be re-implemented with new variables, just continue to change the value on the first one.

I hope this helps... http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/confused.gif

Sorry, maybe it would be more clear using your quote.

You refer to a FIRST DATA SOURCE and a NEW DATA SOURCE.

Try using only one data source, and redefining the value on the FIRST DATA SOURCE when you want the rider to be frozen the second time, as well as all times after that.

If I use this method to slow the bike and rider down.

Is there another method I can use to slow the game timer at the same rate?

If I can't slow the game timer I will just leave it as it is.
