Sweet! I was expecting a single 10-minute video, not 32 separate episodes!!

FYI, the http://redlynxtrials.com/tutorials URL mentioned in the Intro video isn't up quite yet... I'm sure it's on its way.

Wow. That is going to raise the bar for customs right out of the gate. A complete tutorial before the game even comes out. I mean, who does that? Thanx Redlynx, I know everyone has been looking forward to this moment that is only 2 weeks away. I haven't been this pumped up for a game before. Oh, the sweet anticipation.

No. You don't need a checkpoint just because you add a spline point.

There can be curves in the driving line with out check points. In the Gamespot demo video the guy playing the game laid out a circular track but forgot to add checkpoints and there were about 6 or 7 curves in the track.

Spline points are needed for a curve.

To clear this up.
Spline Points and Checkpoints are completely independent. By choosing the first two spline points two checkpoints are created.... just because you need two of them for testing.
However those two checkpoints do not need to line up with the start or end point. They must contain those two checkpoints but there are no other limitations of the possibilities to place spline points (except if you want to make an extremely short curve).

New spline points can be added from the two beginning ones. This is done to make the line consistent. Therefore they are not eligible in the game menu (unlike checkpoints).

My thoughts too.
These tutorials will cut down on time learning the editor massively and once we've seen them all it will just be down to us to use our imagination.
A tantalising prospect to say the least!

Edit: I don't think processing a video shorter than ~5 minutes should take this long, assuming that all of the videos are rendered to the same format. Maybe you guys should try to re-upload it?

Yes, that is an obvious fact! He's doing a great job and i'm loving the series so far.

I hope it's obvious as well that i only uploaded it to help the part of the community that wanted to see it.
In no way was i trying to hurt RedLynx.

Can't wait for todays video on Game Cameras and the advanced object properties. It seems they get even more interesting now when we get into the Pro Editor.

There was an article posted recently saying it was the Xbox Live mode with 4 players on the same track.

I noticed the trees blowin in the wind. Is that the wind effect (be it the same as in HD, or "real" wind) doing that, or an option the trees have?

Not only is it really an evolution of the editor from HD (and hopefully I can make all those levels I see in my dreams!) but Cannibal Shogun is so good at explaining everything. Wow. The color options on the objects, and the post effect and color tint options for the camera are amazing. Seeing that gives me so many ideas for themed tracks. Can't wait to see what other people will do with that too.

The colouring ability means there are going to be some seriously gorgeous tracks.
The ability to designate an object decorative and thus seriously cut down on the processing grunt needed for a track? Genius.

And even apart from the incredible things you will be able to do in a trials track with the astounding ability to tweak almost every single object property this surely opens a whole world of things you can do to make different types of skill games like puzzle etc.

I love all the new features, but the one I think will have the most impact is being able to set an object's physics type to "decoration only". There were so many ideas that I and many other track makers had that simply couldn't be done in THD because putting the track in the desired environment required too many decorations to allow for a complete driving line. It is clear that they have significantly increased how many objects per track you can have even with physics set to normal, but that small feature could provide for some incredibly detailed scenery.

First post from a long time lurker/reader. I've been following the info on this forum since I read in the back of one of the game magazines that Evolution was coming. Every video I watch, it just gets better & better. I made a couple tracks for myself but never got far with exposing them because of the friends list factor on HD. This new system will bring alot of closet track creators into the public. I'm no expert by any means but I love the hell out of Trials HD and I'm sure I'm gonna love Evolution. Thanks RedLynx!

I hope so. i can imagine so many matrix like moments being created using this. I love the whole favorites thing. That's going to make for days of simply creating cool new objects. Having said that, I'd love to be able to share, or more likely GET the the favorites of other more creative builders than me.

Is this something that can be achieved somehow at all??

I wonder how much of an effect "object visibility: off" will have on performance. For instance, if I have an object that's hidden by the terrain until later in the track, would it be beneficial to turn off its visibility until the rider gets there, or will it not stream into the 360's memory until just before it's actually visible?

I dawdled about in the Trials HD editor a bit, but I couldn't make anything too impressive. And most of my track making techniques and protocols were clearly not the proper way that pro editors make tracks (Because I was self-taught, no youtube tutorials), so my tracks ended up not working correctly half the time and such. Also I'm not very creative or good at being decorative.
But after seeing some of these tutorials, I think there may be hope for me to make some pretty quality stuff. :O

They could just add something somewhere in the help menu that says "GO to http://www.youtube.com/whatever for more detailed tutorials". That should be easy enough to add in an update if need be.

Anyone got any idea how the 'terrain modification' is gonna work? I'm hoping it's something like I'm presuming... Being able to add 'mounds' to create hills, bumps - and 'scooping' earth out to create ditches, holes, and places to add streams, puddles, etc.

This'll really make sure almost every user created track will be very unique.

I can't think what else it'll be?

Anyone got any idea how the 'terrain modification' is gonna work? I'm hoping it's something like I'm presuming... Being able to add 'mounds' to create hills, bumps - and 'scooping' earth out to create ditches, holes, and places to add streams, puddles, etc.

This'll really make sure almost every user created track will be very unique.

That's what I have in mind. I'm hoping it's something similar. I haven't played 'From Dust' but I think there's a similar tool on there, too, with the way you create hills and holes.

In another video, I think I saw 'you can ride through shallow water without faulting' or something along those lines... So I'm hoping we can dig into the terrain to create tiny puddles or even really long, deep rivers.

The in game tutorials/tests are a superb addition and these are basically that but for trackmaking so deserve to be easily viewed by all who get Trials Evo and want to get into trackmaking.

Can't wait for the Terrain Modification tutorial.

The building seed tutorial gave me so many ideas for tracks. Having a skyscraper with the track winding through it and around it all the way to the top is going to be a lot less time consuming to make than I thought it would be. Can't wait to get my hands on the editor.

It seems like the triggers are similar to HD. But I'm thinking hinges, lifts, etc. will be easier to set up this time around. It took alot of practice to get things like that functioning properly in HD.

The only thing that worries me just a bit is that it seemed like the complexity meter raised dramatically when seeding buildings, they seem to have a huge impact on the track filesize.

Alright so the "total complexity" meter is not the filesize limit but just like in HD? Is there a way to know if we are close to the filesize limit?

I would not completely rule out the possibility of occlusion in the editor.

If not at launch then maybe in a patch.

I say this partly because I am optimistic, and also because I play no role in the development.

...Come to think of it, I don't see why this would be a problem. Assuming that the video released tomorrow unveils what we are all anticipating, (and what the name implies) Terrain Modification, then simply turn the "brush size" all the way up. Delete (or flatten) all terrain and objects. Viola!

Save track as Blank Template.

Never the less, I remain highly optimistic. I have been completely blown away at what I've already seen regarding the editor this time around, and the videos still have a long way to go.

The ultimate surprise I think would rock us all, is the in the last video, Skill Games. This is where I speculate they will reveal in the skill games selector a slot for "Custom Defined" skill games. Imagine creating your own skill game with advanced tools from scratch!

Oh well, I gotta stop rambling.

I don't want the game to be processing all the terrain out of view.
I am thinking the game is only really going to process what is in the physics bubble, what is visible, and what is triggered. You know when you see the floating island and the camera shows the waterfalls, but the camera goes away from, and back to, the floating island the waterfall starts falling again.

You can create your own four kilometer long tracks if you want. So you shouldn't worry that much about memory/object limits.

In Trials HD, you can swap in the menu, but I haven't seen that option in the menus!

In raw object count GIGATRACK doesn't fit in top 5, but yeah in overall it ranks up to top3 in overall complexity.

4k+ objects can easily placed in single track without hitting limits. One of our indoor track contains nearly 4k objects. But its not how much you can add in raw object count, its how you use objects in different situation.

You can load tracks made in the lite editor to the pro editor. If you want to start easy, you can do it, and when you feel ready for the pro stuff, you can continue with your existing track in the pro editor.

From the look of it you could probably achieve the same thing by copy/pasting the hills but it seems more long winded.

I think it looks great - Better than having no shaping tool. Then there's all those other sub categories in the Environment tab, trees, bushes, rocks, cliffs... May even be a few more if you scroll along.

I just hope it's possible to add water into the holes you create? I remember seeing two craters with puddles in them on Gigatrack.

You can....you just have to LAYER the terrain objects like cannibal said in the video. Like 10 or 12 hills in a row.

One thing to remember is that file size of the level is still small. And with right usage and spotting startting point you can really create whatever you like with stamps.

With regards to snow I am assuming you can create it.

If you look back at the last video where Cannibal mentions changing the colour of the water..... I guess that if you can make rain you can also change the colour of the rain water like you can with puddles etc to look white. The speed at which the rain/snow falls might be a different question.

Yes, you can add as many of them as you want on top of each other. And you can scale them. So you can create very deep pits and very high mountains if you like. The maximum height is half a kilometer (it's very high).

Terrain Modification is the bomb.

On a side note, apparently there's a 3-second countdown timer when switching to testing mode (just like in the old editor from THD). I'm surprised you track designers don't get impatient when fine-tuning an object, constantly switching back and forth between editing and testing modes. I'd expected an one second timer, sort of. Is there a technical cause for this, or do you guys just have a higher tolerance than me? http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon/smile.gif I also didn't play many of the skill games of THD mainly due to a 3 second restart counter on bail or finish. Well, you know, once one grows accustomed to the 1-second restart of normal racing tracks...

The three second countdown is shown only if you go to the test drive when the first checkpoint is the active one. And even in that case you can skip the countdown by skipping checkpoints.

The environemt modifiers bode well for some very "otherworldly" looking tracks.

I think the terrain modification looks extremely versatile myself and it shouldn't be too hard to build some realistic copies of motocross tracks for those inclined to do so.

I'm really looking forward to gigatrack and massive tracks of that ilk being made by users.
It's a bit like extreme enduro which is worth looking up for those who don't that amazing moto discipline.

Oh and with thd you could have seperate ways to get to the end like an upper and lower route. is it possible to have the driving line split and curved seperately from each other?

good question, i have doubts about that though.
lets wait and see what the advanced checkpoint vid is.

I saw in the terrain editor video today that you can use textures to show where the driving line is on the ground, stuff like exposed dirt. If you snap these textures to a curved part of the driving line, will they curve accordingly?

It seems like the hardest part of having a curved driving line in a track will be showing the player where the track actually goes.

In the terrain video, you see the "cliffs" menu...I wonder what goodness lurks in there?

What about a high route that hooks left and a low route that hooks right. Something like that.

I know its not what you want but hey, Its better than just a high route and low route if what you're looking for isnt possible

Answering my own question here: I rewatched the gamespot footage of the "Gigatrack" and there are plenty of places where the driving line is curving and the exposed dirt texture on the ground curves to show you exactly where the driving line is. No idea if the texture actually curves just by snapping it to the driving line, but if not then it's still possible to show.

HA! Of all the cool new **** the editor offers, this is what jumps out at you? but yeah, that blinding white screen zap you get in the editor is obnoxious, glad that was addressed.

I think I may have seen a track with rain in it.... Haven't heard anything about snow

Does anybody know if we can save terrain into our favourites like with the normal objects? Say I make a mountain or ditch I particularly like.

If you can select it, you can save it which means basically everything ... normal objects, tools, trigger system, terrain stamps, water planes etc.

Object doesn't have to be added from the object selector eighter, you can select objects from the base world too.

I can see that you guys would have had to be perfectionists about it... I was amazed at how much thought you put into the sun and clouds!

The rain board with logs looks nice, the one with wrecking balls looks awesome.
If you wanted to implement more weather conditions, snow, wet surfaces...etc, would this be possible with a patch or future download?
