View Full Version : Personal replays.

All the time I've been playing Trials, I've found QcChopper's YouTube videos to be an incredible aid. Incase anyone doesn't know he uploaded videos of all of his top times, grouped by difficulty/dynamic/downloadable... I decided that as soon as I get all my ranks below 100 (and no fault Diablo) I'll do the same, not cause I think my runs are good... actually the opposite, cause I'm nowhere near the top tier, my replays may be more useful for beginners (easy shortcuts and stuff). Anyway, that's the plan.

1. Tutorials (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlzUBcQh2f8)
2. Easy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LT3K0FVI6oM)
3. Medium (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGBn16zU2yY)
4. Hard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTjo_4K_NJw)
5. Flip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEa_0ETL1hA)
6. Dynamic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJCKT5qozXE)
7. Downloadable Easy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hVKolP93QY)
8. Downloadable Medium (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xd42NJMaiNY)
9. Diablo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJFrXo73RoM)
10. YSNP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buuo6cq-lS0)

I'll update this thread as I add more videos, just so there is a record of them on the boards...
But now I've got to get back to a more interesting project I'm doing http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

Edit: really wanted to upload this video (mostly so I can watch it when I don't have Trials around). It's my teammate, evilsean42, doing a super smooth run on KotB. I have no idea how I'm going to beat this.

nice ysnp man,but that was slow, try 0falting it under 2mins

03-23-2010, 03:42 PM
Thanks http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif The actual run was about 15-20 mins. after the overhang flip I paused the game every checkpoint to calm my nerves http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif
I'll hopefully revist it soon, but I've got Diablo, KotB, and about 17 other >#100 tracks to get to first. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

04-02-2010, 11:48 AM
Ok, I'm going to start uploading as I get each collection sub100. Here is the first one:

And here are the dynamic tracks.

So in a way you managed to make me watch all your tutorial/dynamic replays. http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif
Nice work! Keep it up and make me watch all your reps http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

04-05-2010, 11:54 AM
Thanks for the nice comments, though I imagine it must be pretty tricky for you guys watching such slow runs http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
Anyway I almost for got about flip tracks, they were a nice easy ones to put together...

04-07-2010, 03:38 PM
Ok, here are the easy tracks. I found getting into the top 100 on Ladder Madness and Easy Beasy to be sooo difficult. And since I recorded them a couple of Alt's have knocked my Concrete Mayhem and Fiery Justice ranks out of the top 100 http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif The speed tracks are so hard to improve on. Looking forward to doing the medium tracks now.

04-09-2010, 02:24 PM
Gawd, this isn't getting any easier... I mostly lucked out on Squirrels... still, getting their. Only 7/8 tracks to get sub100 now.

04-09-2010, 04:49 PM
nice dude, get em all under 100 not only the mediums http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif

04-09-2010, 05:37 PM
Thanks Hardcore, that is the plan, I've just got 2 hards, 5dls and diablo left.
Incidently did you notice on Under Construction for the drop I accidently did the same nose bounce that you did http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif (which I thought was coincidental since I pointed it out 3 minutes before it happened - and it was the only time I've done that).

04-14-2010, 11:06 AM
KotB is killing me so I jumped to the downloadable easy ones. Grindhouse took forever to get a nice time on http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_asleep.gif always need luck to get over the bumpy bit near the end). Autobahn was sooo much easier when I decided to stop doing the double flips at the start and just concentrate on bouncing over the steep ramp). And I'm not sure how the hell I got 30th on Let if Flip, I couldn't get below 100 with the same line before.

04-16-2010, 04:45 PM
Ok, here are the downloadable Medium tracks. As I was recording them someone pushed my classic up to 101, but I thought I'd carry on anyway. Only KotB and Diablo left to do, then I can concentrate on playing the fun tracks http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

04-17-2010, 04:40 PM
nice dude,im sure you can top100 the classic there are some obstacles that you was slow, try to be more faster http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

04-17-2010, 07:43 PM
I was trying the other day for a couple of mins, and that track is way easier than I remember. Just got to not make any silly mistakes http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
but first I have to nail all the shortcuts on kotb... So close.

04-20-2010, 02:02 PM
Ok, that's all my tracks ranked in the top 100 (Concrete mayhem was my last and took 1.5hours to get from #104 to #95). KotB took forever to get all the shortcuts I wanted to land, I did a weird little standing wheelie near the end but it still worked out fine http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif )

I wanted to write a text accompaniment to go with this video as I'm hoping all my videos will be useful for average players to see what shortcuts and routes are achievable without going into the super technical runs that fill the top10. However with the hard tracks I thought it would be difficult to tell the difference between deliberate calculated shortcuts and happy accidents - you don't want to spend hours trying to replicate an accident, thinking it's an important technique.
So here is the video, and below is the blurb.

As I don't understand these tracks anywhere near as well as a lot of people on this forum, if anyone has any corrections or additional comments it would be great if you could post them.

(also I still have to go back and proof read this)

H1 - Full Speed Ahead: first few seconds are simple, notice the small tap of forward on the second jump. From the high platform I do a forward flip, this isn't needed, but it leaves you in the right position for the following shortcut. Going up the 3rd ramp, hold accelerate, then when you get to the last wooden section hold back and release accelerate for a fraction of a second, then you need to try and bounce your back wheel on the high platfom - I can usually do this 20% of the time. Note the leaning back on the next ramp to keep the jump low and land on the front wheel before the next ramp so you've got a good angle for the floating platforms. Dropping onto the diagonal tires is the most annoying bit of the track for me, I rarely hit them the same way twice, but I've found accelerating as you hit them to be safest. For the big jump before the final checkpoint be sure to just hold accelerate while going up the hill (not forward) then the flip (which boosts you down to the ground) should work every time.

H2 - Buried in Boxes: Start is slow but safe, which I needed as there are some tricky shortcuts later on. First shortcut 20seconds in, start from the stationary position and hold back and accelerate, then let go of both when your back wheel hits the ramp, let your rider slowly rotate over the edge, then hit accelerate when he's horizontal, this shortcut is actually quite forgiving http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_asleep.gif usually get it 30-50% of the time). The next shortcut is the tricky one and I didn't land it properly here. Ideally you want to be pretty far back on the platform you've just landed on, accelerate then hit back for a second so that you go into a wheelie you want to leanforward at some point, I tend to do it as I hit the steep ramp.. Ideally you'll get enough distance so that you can forward flip and land with both wheels against the far wall, then slide down vertically (see QcChoppers video), however I didn't get enough distance and was lucky that I landed. For the steep ramp before the last checkpoint, the slow but safe way of doing it is to position yourself stationary at the base of the ramp http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_asleep.gif repeatedly tap forward and accelerate quickly to get into position), then hold forward and accelerate and when you're back wheel is less than half way up the ramp, do a really quick release of the accelerate and put it back on again, which will correct your angle and take you over the flaming barrels.

H3 - Jumpy Ride: The first wheelie bounce is quite slow but very consistent, , I just hold back for the very beginning to get up the ramp, then hold forward when the back wheel is touching the large cylinder, then just keep holding forward. There are dozens of ways of doing these jumps, but I went for a safe path. Jumping all the way over the 3rd checkpoint was accidental. For the backwheel bounce shortcut, just make sure your back wheel is a little below horizontal as you're falling then hit back then forward before you hit the ground. For the big jump over the flaming log, to get the boost just lean forward (spring jump) one section before the end of the ramp (don't do it at the top of the ramp) and you should be able to do this every time.

H4 - The Shortcut: The start takes a while to get used to, just be sure to release the accelerator when you're getting up onto the barrels so your back wheel isn't being sent into the air, and quickly hold forward after the first spring jump so your front tire hits the second set of barrels first... then it's a really quick switch jump again to make it to the next set of boxes. For the next jump (over the barrel) I make sure I've got some forward momentum (but not full speed) as I get to the top of the boxes then do a spring jump over to the barrel, and hold back as you hit it to pull your back wheel over. For the jump over the fire onto the stack of barrels, this is the first time I did it this way, I normally land before the barrels (and do a switch jump then lean back to go over the stack in a oner) or bounce off the back of the top of the flaming tube to land half way up the barrels in a forward position (as QcChopper does in his video). When climbing barrels like these, you can get in trouble if you hold forward too much. If you're pointing up the way, just hold accelerate until you start climbing then hold forward to keep your angle correct. This start section is actually a little slow, using these methods you could knock a few second of it. For the ramps I was quite lucky, I rarely get up the last ramp in a oner. The trick here is, like the barrels, hold accelerate before you hold forward, that stops you pushing your back wheel off the ramp and losing traction. From the top, the first switch jump I fail 50% of the time, the second jump it may be better to do a forward flip, as that can land you nicer on the far platform (notice I waste a few seconds steadying myself). The final big jump I fail on a lot, I think the safest way is to not hold back... just accelerate towards it and hit forward when you're near the top of the ramp. In this video I bounce off the final slope, this is very risky, and I mostly did it by accident, given the choice I'd land with both wheels on the last ramp and just hold back and accelerate until I hit the ground (slower but a lot safer).

H5 - King of the Beer: This track has many difficult shortcuts, but one of the key ways of getting your time down is to just try to have a smooth line through the obstacles, for example, by the time I get to the top of the first hill, I've already lost 2-3 seconds by not linking all of the actions together. The first shortcut from the top of the hill to the middle platform is pretty important if you want a good rank, you should be able to land it nearly every time, however smoothly going to the next platform can be tricky. You need to land nose first, but still try to be as close to horizontal as possible, then do a quick switch jump. The next ramps I do slowly, dropping back a bit to make sure I've got enough room and my front wheel is down, before going for each jump. The next section is really easy to mess up on, you can barrel forward bouncing over the top of the ramp and then wheelie bouncing over the gap, however I found this too risky to do in combination with the later shortcuts, so I position myself on the steep slope and do a big (slow) jump, so my back wheel lands near the end of the next platform and then lean forward so that I bounce over the gap. Doing it this way you should be able to land it nearly every time (though it is slow). The next shortcut (the long jump) can be really fast, but to be safe I take my time stopping and positioning myself before the jump (if you go straight into it from the previous section you'll have an amazing time). I make sure I'm leaning forward, reverse until my back tire is back over the edge of the platform, then accelerate and do a very fast switch jump a little bit before the end of the platform, then you have hold forward so that your front tire hits the tubes first... then do a very quick switch jump as soon as you've hit it to bounce up to the next checkpoint. I messed it up slightly and had to balance on my back tire - but if you take your time setting up this jump you should be able to hit it 30-50% of the time. The next shortcut (the drop) is very unforgiving and I need a good bit of luck to nail it. you want to be flat on the checkpoint platform and move forward with a medium speed (not holding backwards) so that you slowly go nose first over the edge... then hit accelerate at the last minute to try to boost down to the flat platform below - if you land it this can save 5 seconds, however I can only do it 10-25% of the time. For the final set of steep slopes, it's safer to go up in stages, but I went for a very risky shoot straight up. To be honest I just hold back, then lean forward as I hit the first ramp, then hope for the best - it works about 20% of the time http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
You can get a top 100 time without doing all of those shortcuts (particularly the long jump one (as the slow way can be done quickly if you're smooth), but nailing all of them will get you a great time.

H6 - Steel and Concrete: Slow but safe start up the hill, then I landed the shortcut to the metal ramp - there are lots of ways of doing this (an easy way is if you reverse a little so your back tire is on top of the protruding wooden plank), but still I can only get it about a third of the time. I stalled for a bit getting off the ramp, this section is more about controlled accleration rather than leaning forward. The next little shortcut onto the box is a standard and you should be going for it every time. for the floating platforms I reverse a little to prepare myself for the jump, a little slow but it means I get it every time... when you get to the high one I like to have a little forward momentum as I'm approaching the top then I do a big jump to try to avoid the middle plaform all together. After you drop down, the barrels can be a little tricky, but you want to be hitting them leaning back so you can carry on over in one move... here I hooked my back wheel, that was an accident, but it turned out ok. The next shortcut is the big jump over to the steps.. By getting the full length of the previous ramp like I did it's easy to bounce the back wheel, but you may then be able to lean back and clear the second step aswell. for the final big jump shortcut, this was actually the first time I've ever done it by starting in the forward position... though it worked really nicely so I'll probably do that again in the future.

H7 - An Affair With Boxes: The flip near the start is quite nice, but you can get a good time without it. The first big obstacle is the steep slope at about 13seconds, you can go into it straight from the drop, with a nice switch jump as you land, but it is very tricky, and all depends how you drop down. Here I approached it quite slowly, but then cleared it quickly, it was a happy medium. There is a nice thing abou this slope in that if you just smack into it from a little way away, you can usaully carry on up it. The next obstacle is the trickiest bit of the map, you're quicker if you can learn to go up it from the leaning back position (as you'll probably be in that position as you approach it anyway). I break and try to almost stop in line with the middle of the box bridge, then when I accelerate I lean forward as my front wheel goes up the ramp, you can get it to be a very smooth movement, I found it too tricky landing a back flip here, though it is a common technique. The second half of the track I find the hardest cause you can get stuck easily on some of the weirdly shaped boxes, for the final shortcut it isn't the way the top guys do it, but it is easy and still very fast.. the trick is as you're going down the ramp lean forward (do a spring jump) before you get to the end... don't leave it until the very end or the angle will be wrong, make youself do it early.

H8 - Inferno: Ok, this is the biggy, the first of the ultra hard tracks. If you've not done this track before, be prepared to spend 1-2 hours on the first jump. The way I time it is, I hold accelerate at the start, then as I'm dropping I hold back... I lean forward as my back wheel hits the pallet on the ground, which gives you a little boost, then as I hit the ramp I do a quick back-forward switch jump. the speed of your taps as you do the switch jump affects your angle as you come to the barrels... I find if you do it really quickly you can go straight over the barrels like the fastest players do, but I found it to be more reliable to do it a fraction slower and then hold forward, so the back wheel catches the first barrel and you do a forward flip over them... on a bad day this can take 20 attempts, on a good day it's about one in 3 or 4 tries. for going up the rest of the ramp be sure to use the accelerator before leaning forward or you'll lose traction on the back tire. The next drop down you can do many ways (back wheel bounce, nose bounce, break then switch jump if you're far back enough). I do a regular switch jump as I land here. For the second set of obstacles, it's possible to go straight into them, but really hard to practice, so I go the safe route and break and reverse to the back wall. You need to be leaning foward for these ramps... there are two main ways, hold foward and accelerate then switch jump as you're going up the first ramp (can do all the ramps in a oner this way, but it's tricky to do every time). The way I do it is to be leaning forward, but not holding forward, then as I start to hit the first ramp I do the switch jump - this usually requires some more movements to stay on track... like leaning backwards half way up to the second ramp, then leaning forwards half way along the second ramp so that you're the right angle on the third ramp. I always take my time on the landing ramp... tapping accelerate to level off before leaning forward. For the drop to the stilts I try to leave the top platform with just a medium speed and aim to hit the front of my bike against the wall (not too high up), then tap the accelerator as I land to stop from rolling back. This is the main place I mess up when playing the track, and need a little luck moving foward without dropping down. The next ramp, the slow but safest route is to have both wheels firmly on it before you take off... I do that by quickly tapping forward and accelerate repeatedly then holding them down when I think I'm in position, then just hold them until you fly off and land. This next tire jump is really big and I mess up here a lot, but it just takes time to learn a good position to have the bike in so you can get enough speed before you take off... the following tire jumps are easier... but you've got to be carefull not to let nerves get to you if you've got a fast time so far. You'll see a lot of people doing wheelie bounces off the first tire.. This is a very nice shortcut, but I believe it may be random if your bike lands on the correct section of the tire to allow this.

Hope that's useful to someone.

Just need to nofault Diablo now and that will be me done with this video series.

nice dude, your hard tracks are very nice and fast, try to be more faster

05-21-2010, 11:46 AM
OK finished!
Finally completed Diablo without any faults... but OMG was it a struggle. I'm just quite happy that my final run didn't have too many silly mistakes.
Also, watch around the 1:20 mark for an unexpected moment captured on video http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif

This has been a pretty good day, Got my last level no faulted, completed my personal replays video series, finally broke the top 40, and got that special suprise http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif

Thanks AkaM http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif and well done on your TF too, I think that makes you the 11th person to get a full set http://forum.redlynx.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif
