What does a Bf 109 look like at 300m? As a standard, how much of the gunsight ring of a Hurricane (on normal view) does it fill nose-to-tail or wingtip to wingtip? Does anyone have or know of images of a specific plane at specific ranges--or at least a known range? What is the best way to gauge range to target in the game? I think I may have the perverse problem of getting in too close now. In one pass, where I had a 109 straight up and down in front of me, it looked like my tracers went right around his waist on either side.

If you think you are getting closer, why not then simply adjust your converge to 200 or 150?

If you want to know how it looks like, set it up in QMB, have Icons on. Engage up to .3 and take a pic. that's how it looks like.

bf109 will be at 100 yards when he is wingtip-to-wingtip across the gun sight ring. Therefore, 1/3 the size of the ring at 300 yards and 1/2 the size at 200 yards and so on.

So, being that meters and yards are fairly close.. it's good enough to use for gunnery. I'd highly recommend going with 150m or 100m convergence setting for the Hurricane's loaded with MG only (not enough hitting power downrange) and 400-500m for the IIc (plenty of hitting power at any range).

Good luck!

There is an original (historic) document available on the internet that details RAF gunnery techniques, specifically for the Hurricane (also valid for early Spitfires as well). Ahh; a quick search turned it up at Dart's site (thanks Dart):

http://www.darts-page.us/files/gunnery01.htm

I believe it is quite valid and usefull for FB Hurricanes (most aircraft really).

THANK YOU! Excuse me for shouting. My gosh, what a treasure. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This should be a sticky http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif. Can you handle lots of hits on your site, now the secret is out?
