After several attemps at downloading, deleting files, and reinstalling Uplay, I continuously receive the message;

"<!> Failed to start download Uplay is unable to start your download. Check that you have an active internet connection and sufficient space on your hard drive then try again."

Im currently running Windows 8.1 and attempts at disabling firewalls and antiviruses have no success.
I decided to make a new thread in case this is a new issue. So does anyone have any advice?

I have the exact same problem. I've also tried to run uplay as admin and that doesn't work as well.

I'm running Windows 8.1 on a new build computer. Steam games work and download just fine. I have made it as far as 35% and then it stalls. I've been trying to download this gave for a week now!

Similar issue here, it downloads for about 30 seconds to 1 minute at a maximum of 3Mb/sec then stops and gives me the same error. I have been having to sit here for an hour at a time just monitoring the download and am now on day 3 and barely at 50%.

But this is what I noticed. After checking my router logs I have found DDos attacks directed at my ip. First time ever. It happens everytime I try and download the game. It's no wonder we can't download.

Could be from porn or you are already carrying malware, virus, or other goodies.

Avast and Malware bytes will protect you good and MB will remove the stuff.

AUC should be manually disabled if you know what you're doing its crap so is windows defender and all the junk that comes on windows. Having a custom self built rig these are the very first things I do when new install of window get rid of its crap.

I contacted support and got nowhere as usual but I managed to fix this problem myself by reinstalling the game and uplay after removing all registry entries and folders regarding AC4 and uplay (and keeping the savegames). This happened to me immediately after a uplay update and I suspect uplay was corrupted somehow during the update process. I just want emphasise the fact that I fixed the problem and that support were useless.

Hello Everyone !

I am new to this forum and I believe I found a fix to the download failed error in AC4 update. I don't know how this came to my mind but I tried it. Give it try... And I think this would work for the retail edition.

1. First I suggest Installing CCleaner ( www.ccleaner.com ). It's a good software and would definitely help you in gaming.

2. Uninstall both uplay and AC4 game.

3. Clean the Registry with CCleaner.

4. Go to uplay and AC4 installation folders and delete any leftover files.

5. Again clean the registry with ccleaner and restart the pc.

6. Download uplay from - uplay.ubi.com and install.

7. Use the disc and install AC4.

8. Check whether it works..

Thanks and it worked for me.

Btw I am on Windows 8.1.

when you started your download, and it say Fail , just go on the top of your Uplay , click on Download , and retry , it work for me
