Just saw the video for Make It Stop. Will this go down as the most powerful and inspirational song in RS history?

I'm really disappointed with the song selection, considering it's my favourite band. I'll be picking up PoTR, Give it All and maybe satellite. But the other two I might skip because I don't have an acoustic electric and while make it stop has a great message, I can't stand listening to It for some reason, maybe it's because of the singing children in the intro. I'm also surprised that they didn't put anything from appeal to reason in the mix.

only know this band thru Rocksmith, and am becoming a fan, had a quick listen to the songs, definitely buying this pack.

No idea how many years they've been around, off to wiki now hehe, it's so much easier these days,no trolling thru fanzines for any titbit of info

I have 2 original 60s Beatle Official Fan Club magazines , nuthin like a wiki page

PS I'll add Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On" to the list of inspirational songs for it's anti-war sentiments. plus any James Jamerson bass inspires me hehe

Unknow territory for me but i'm willing to explore. Listened to the songs and they all sound fairly easy and mostly for rhythm guitar and bass players. Energic stuff that will surely be fun to play along.

So i'm starting collecting those captchas for next week hint!

Wow I just watched that video too. Not a lot of musicians touch on that topic, but it's very real and very controversial. Powerful stuff.

Inspirational? Maybe.

Most powerful? I dunno. There are some pretty damn powerful songs on the tracklist right now. House of the Rising Son. Paranoid Android. Say It Ain't So. Etc.

Same here. 2 weeks in a row for me. But I'm not complaining. I still have lots of DLC that I need to play some more.

Not being that familiar with the band (only their song on RS14), I gave them a shot and listened to each track that is offered in the pack.

It is not my thing...which is far from an issue of a hater hating, but a person with their own tastes not really liking or identifying with the music.

But I am glad that the band has an audience that does gets something out of their music, and glad that their fans that play RS have some of their tracks to enjoy.

So enjoy, Rise Against fans. Maybe I will be reveling in the DLC choice next week.

Rise Against's lyrics are definitely great for a teenaged audience. They're defiant and really deal with issues that young people face in their daily social lives.

Unfortunately, when you get older, other people kind of stop being a real problem in your life. I mean, you don't have to deal with getting picked on or not being understood by adults and peers. Life's problems become more metaphysical, as you start dealing with death and finding meaning in your accomplishments and whatnot. In short, it becomes less about you and your emotions, and more about just everything and doing what you can for the people you love.

Very well put. Young folk should understand that we were young and idealistic once, and as part of the aging process, grew and expanded our tastes to reflect deeper, more meaningful life experiences.

When I was a young lad, I thought Andres Segovia, Stanley Jordan and Jimi Hendrix were the end all, be all of guitar music. Anyone who thought otherwise was a hater (or didn't understand the guitar). Well, now I am old, but the difference is that I KNOW that Andres Segovia, Stanley Jordan and Jimi Hendrix are the end all, be all of guitar music! HA HA..no..just kidding.

But, the music that I found I appreciate now has a much wider base. And I am absolutely fine with other people preferring Justin Bieber over Hendrix. I am glad that people are enjoying music.

I think we have different life experiences here. Teen suicide precludes getting to the part of life where this isn't relevant. It's an adult problem affecting a younger world. And bullying in general can have a lasting effect on adults. I'm pushing 40 and the song is powerful to the point of being triggering; get past the "hunted" part of my life wasn't a trivial process and I'm still going through it.

Also I think the issues about getting "picked on" are a lot more lasting for people in LBGT communities. That fight doesn't go away when you grow up.

Either way, I'm all-in on the angry vegetarian band - covered Prayer for the Refugee ages ago when I was a newer guitarist (and one dislike and no likes, ouch Youtube, you harsh, harsh mistress)

Swing Life Away is my go-to acoustic sing/play song, and invariably people like it, but most haven't heard it.

I'll listen to the songs. Not sure I'll get any at this point. 360 Ultimate Game Sale is this week and I got 2 racing games last night, so I have some new stuff to play this week. I like "Savior" on disc. Not sure I need a ton of Rise Against, though. 1 is probably enough.

Edit: oops...should've quoted Alfred Profrock for this to be meaningful.

Exactly!

And it's not like there's any objective standard for music--it's purely a matter of taste.

Speaking of which, if we're going angsty, I think Linkin Park not only does the angst better, but their singer can actually sing.... ;)

All valid with regards to your experiences and taste, but I think his point is this: while the issues can be real and quite serious (and worthy of exploring), younger music tends to focus on the self (as it also is with poetry written by young people). Some bands for younger folks branch out into social issues and politics, but it is usually idealistic and defiant. Growing up doesn't necessarily mean that you stop identifying with or enjoying bands like Rise Against, but I think and older crowd might classify it as music for a younger audience and have a harder time identifying with it.

Although, it is important to note that there is also a generational issue. While I never got into punk music, if I were to try to think about young, defiant music that I did identify with and still do, it is all punk music from my generation: Sex Pistols, Ramones, Bad Brains, Fishbone, Black Flag, etc.

It's really a whole lot of work to put those videos together but i just want to point something out that really bugs me about all those videos of the same style with RS.on the background.

You and others should really find another angle to record if you know what i mean. This is mostly the main reason i end-up not watching them and i'm almost sure that is a big reason why not they don't get much views either. Women can do that kind of stuff and get away with it lol

Hope you don't hold it against me.

I never gave it a second (or even first) thought. You flatter me. :)
Hey, at least I wasn't wearing shorts!

This angle business is a tough one because I want folks to be able to see what I am doing. Your first example was pretty good. I didn't like the second one because the right hand is cut off so you can't see the picking pattern.

I am not going to retake any of the footage. I am a novice at this video editing stuff, but I am at least willing to experiment with the mastering.

Is this format more to your liking? It this one I drop the guitar to the bottom left and so I had to reduce the size of the RS2014 screen and move it top right.

Excellent!! Really like it!! Hope it becomes a standard in RS video sharing :D

Don't mind my likings but just think about how some people would kind of feel about it lol

That video business is even touchier for classical guitar at some point i would have needed to stick to a dress code have lighting in the right spots and get the damm take correctly lol. I quit doing it it was consuming too much of my playing and practice times that video and sound editing. Guess i wasn't using the right software???

Thanks for the feedback. I'll adjust the others accordingly.

You are completely right. It took me a little under 2 hours practice to get all 5 arrangements in shape on the songs and then about a further 2 hours per song to get a take that I could live with and editing together the two clips (including synchronizing them). This time sink is why my video posting is so inconsistent.
Now that the footage for these songs is in the editor it is a little easier to "fix" them. :)

EDIT: I am using Sony Vegas Pro 12. It is not terribly intuitive, but the more I poke around I am find out it is pretty powerful.
