View Full Version : Multiplayer: Landing dead engine at base = CRASH LANDING

Is there anyway to change it so you score points for bringing home a damaged airplane?

Whenever I manage to make a dead-stick landing - right in the center of the runway at our base, it always says that I crash landed or that I landed in the field - but I didn't! I landed at the base - RTB.

Plus, I would think that managing to get a plane back like that in one piece should score you some points.

Any chance of this?

it happens when 1 of your 2 engines is dead too

I don't know the real reason for this, but it seems to make some sense to me.
At least in the USAAF planes that managed to land, were often discarted as "damaged beyond repair", this of course did not meen that the plane was just being recycled for spare parts, but that it had to go away for a long time.
In multiplayer you get your score, partly from bringing the plane safely home, and a plane with a blown engine is considered in a worse shape than a crash-landed plane with intact engine.
I hope this is just half-way an explanation.

Vou 'crash land' even when you had run out of fuel.

Happened to me after a long dogfight, I glided back to the base which took more than three minutes, landed on the base without taking damage. According to the chat message I "successfully crash landed". But I was rewarded with only 70 points instead of 100 for the kill I had scored in that dogfight. Just because my engine wasn't running anymore when I landed successfully. I don't understand why.

I land dead stick on purpose many times, I shut engine off on final when I'm too hot. I get my max points(if I have any http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif), so maybe if your engine won't run, hit the 'I' key to shut it off and then see.

Even if you shut it off on purpose, it will happen. My solution is (if I think i'm low on fuel) is to shut it off, try to dead stick it in, then upon landing restart my engine and refly after it starts.

Sometimes this works if your engine is "cooked" also. Just try to restart after landing.

It seems odd though as running out of gas and dead sticking it in doesn't justify as a crash landing if there was no damage.

I feel that if you can EVER bring home a banged up plane and land it, you should get full credit for the sortie. Belly landings don't count. Nor do bent props(or maybe they should count too), but a successful landing brings home the most valuable resource...the pilot.

S!
Many a time I've dragged my He111 back home after succesfully bombing the target, dodging the flak, evading the enemy fighters, flying full real for over an hour with just speed bar, instruments shot out, pilot a nice red colour, only to find after landing i crash landed due to engine damage, it really make me feel why bother as this is recorded in the stats aircraft lost = minus points.
This definately needs looking into.

Yea, running out of fuel, landing, and then only getting reduced points per kill due to it is kinda stupid.

Really wish points were just based on damage dealt to planes also. That would stop the jerks who after getting their plane shot to hell, land and wait to refly until after the pilot who shot them up reflys.

See a lot of that punk behaviour online.
