No. Computer games should never even be called a sport, and i could judge this, because i played games at the highest possible level. (as far as sponsors giving my team 2000,- euros to go to tourneys overseas. I know you probably werent serious, but the idea alone just disgusts me.

well maybe not but competitors could wear shorts and vests and run around a bit, just to show willing.

Anyway, if there's money and a well padded brown envelope in it for the IOC, I reckon it'd soon catch on.

If you ask me , I would allow only basics sports in olympics.I mean, they were just that.
Nowaday we have taekwando, football.Even baseball made its place after 88 or92 whatever.
The olympic sports are athletics, swimming, wrestling, maybe rowing , few of them if you ask me.But hey, somebody has to do some money.Long gone the days when the sport was only sport and the man/woman fought for pride, national colors or club colors.
Nowaday sportsmen couldn't find time for every event, cream team failed against Puerto Rico and other things , not only in Olympics.Sport is only money nowaday and it will stay like that forever.Sad,but true. And the joke is that the ones who benefit are often not the athlets.

I'd so no to simulated dogfighting, but how about air racing (as in real not simulated)? ok so the athleticism is less than in sprinting or some of the other events but you still have to be fit to cope with G-forces, stick forces etc, not to mention the expertise.

course, it would be pretty uncompetetive for a few years, US pilots would have a clear advantage of experience.

oh, and they dont have olympic golf do they? cos if they do then there really is grounds to have IL2 as an event....

It can become a sport actually. Just set-up heaviest spring resistance and earthquake-like force feedback on the joystick, throttle and rudder pedal...

Sort of body building, athletic, bike racing etc all combined into one... And you dont have to leave your chair at all... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

Since there are no motor sports in the olympics, I guess the only "aviation sport" that would be proposable is glider aerobatics.

and i think chess is not more like a sport than video game ,so chess could be in olympics so why pc game not . http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

With all due respect, just because China calls playing a certain video game a sport, that doesn't make it a sport.

I could call Il*2:FB a ham sandwich, but that doesn't make it suitable for lunch

If playing video games is a sport, then thousands of businessmen who sit at their PCs all day working on spreadsheets are athletes.

Take Golf for example. It is considered a sport by most people. That's great. The problem with that is that while golf has certain elements of athletics, it is not as pure a sport as say, Rubgy or Eurpoean football. Video games are so far removed from athletics and athleticism that it is a mockery of anyone who actually participates in sport to call video game playing a sport, too.

That's just my opinion, and of course, it's right

I could see it if it were real pilots in real planes (though obviously the shooting would have to be done with laser detectors or the like..Which takes half the challenge out.)

If there was a RL dogfighting championship, you'd never pry me away from the set. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

However I ran cross country through high school and college (up until the point where I destroyed my left knee doing it..Oops) and I can say that "pure" sport isn't really in the same realm as computer gaming.

I could completely endorse starting an orginization that tracks and matches the top gamers in each of the "categories" of competitive gaming, though.. In fact there are already several surprisingly well-financed gaming contests. (mostly for FPS)

And several top players have demonstrated that you can make a living by playing games. (but before you quit your day jobs, let me emphasize that this is the top %0.05 percent, and even thay have to practice about 4 hours a day.)

I fully expect that the day will eventually come when there are mainstream gaming tournaments. (Since people are suddenly starting to realize that gaming is a multibillion dollar industry, and now we have celebreties showing up for release parties)

But for now...you gotta keep em seperraeeted. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

He, he,

Well, the worldwide IL2FB championship took place, it was in China ;-) few months ago.

I am sad to have to say that if it had to take place today (after patch 2.04) I would have to ask for a doping test on the Spit. LOL!
And the FW190 would be participating 2 weeks later at the Paraolympics ROFL!

By the way, womens beach volley just finished. Congratulations to the Chinese ladies, good fight (although injured) even if they lost the game at the end.

By the way, China is first in Gold medals right now with 11 gold (and 7 silver 4 bronze).

china won 0.05 medals per 1.000.000 inhabitants.
Netherlands won 2 medals per 1.000.000 inhabitants.
Australia won 3 medals per 1.000.000 inhabitants.
The USA won 0.3 medals per 1.000.000 inhabitants.

Manos - the opening ceremonies were epic! My hat is off to Greece !

I wish there were fewer empty seats, but people dont like to travel like they used to.

I have an idea for a new Olympic competition...its called 'A$$Grabbing' and it has already been introduced by the US Mens Basketball team. All you need is a venue, like the Sports Illustrated party...and a target, like the FunGirls orange bikini clad dance group.... then -like a marathon- you just grabb as much ham as you can whilst 'preparing' for your real event the next day. The team least able to compete in their real event wins the Gold!

The only thing that comes close is badminton, and even that seems little to what these guys can do with a table!!!! Have you not seen Forrest Gump??????

I love badminton, and am not bad at it, and it knackers me. I love table tennis as well, and against a good opponent, I am absolutely whacked out by the end!!!!

I also play rugby, and that can often destroy me (or rather it's the 18 stone prop forwards grinding into my temples with their bootheels that destroy me - man I love rugby!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/icon_twisted.gif ), but badminton or table tennis, man I feel great after that, but I can hardly breathe!!!

I won't dispute the reaction times part but I would really love a link to something with more crebidility(hehe, Tigger) than your claiming that "It has been shown" that a game of ping pong burns more calories than...oh lets say a 30 k cycling ride or even the 800 meter swim events.

I suppose anythings possible but I'd really like to see something official on that as it seems highly unlikely IMHO

In the next FB championship, I'd love to see them fly a plane that doesn't carry any mk108's. Let them plink away with .50's and see who's the best.

ViKs is a great pilot. No way around that, but one hit with the 108's and the show's over. Put them in P-40's or MiG-3's. For that matter, if they all want to fly 109's, put them in 109 F2's.

your incorrect , ping pong is not in the olympics

i think you under-estimate the skill needed to play high level table tennis

there is a pro circuit that follows the big tournements around the world & there is a world championships event

is it because its a close range game that discounts it from being a "sport" ?

is it because its only between 2 or 4 people that makes it a "game" only ?

is it because it has a smaller following than many other sports ?

please do tell why its only a "game"

.
