View Full Version : Oleg, give us a DE-SPAWN waypoint in the FMB

One huge improvement in the FMB, which might be simple enough to do right now.

When you put large groups of aircraft in a mission it would be helpful to finish with them presto.

When you have 24 bombers attack a town, drop their bombs an fly on. The bombers are always flying and holding down the FPS. If we had a DE-SPAWN waypoint the bombers would fly until they reached the DE-SPAWN waypoint and disappear.

I know it can be done because you do it now when aircraft land at airbases.

A DE-SPAWN waypoint would allow mission builders to enter more aircraft into a mission as soon as the bombers are gone. The mission builder could also just have better FPS for dogfights with other aircraft.

Regardless, when a large group of aircraft has finished their deed it would be nice to have them disappear. Bump up the FPS for whatever else the mission builder needed for a good misison.

I say DE-SPAWN waypoint, because it would be within control of the mission builder. I think it could be just like assigning an attack, take-off or landing at a waypoint. You would just provide a DE-SPAWN at that waypoint.

I've become especially concerned to see this change, especially for late war missions. I was reading how many large numbers of planes were involved, especially when the USA entered Western Europe after Normandy.

The DE-SPAWN waypoint would also help in the upcoming BOB and PF as well.

Oh! another idea. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/10.gif Just give us a timeout for the existence of the air groups. 24 bombers would fly for exactly 30 minutes and just disappear...it would work as well.

Think about it...for the AEP patch

DeSpawn Trick:: Set second to last waypoint at low altitude, maybe ~200m, then set final waypoint to Landing but make sure the landing waypoint is more than ~20km from nearest airfield. The planes then just pancake into ground, sometimes directly, other times they flop around some, before coming down.

I only have one problem with that...All the voice comms while they're crashing http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif
It's tough enough getting them far enough away to "do the deed" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

I've doing a similar thing by crashing them into mountains...LOL

Just must not be a humane way to do the deed? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

LOL often I use maps that don't have mountains or strong enough terrain to crash them. Too much work for me anyway.

Good point about radio but I don't know much about it. I don't even use radio or chatter. Like, what's the point. I enjoy just flying as Leader of 2 aircraft, or as a lowly wingman of 2 or 3. I am now making missions with just 2 elements (or 3 for early WAR "ally") cos it reduced collisions pre~AEP and for fighters, gives double the number of Leaders. I got tired of seeing 4 AI fighters turn home when the single Leader ran out of ammo.

I could see where it would be useful but I can also see where if you were chasing the planes it could resemble a Twilight Zone episode.

Mission Builders would have to work with it to keep it from being such a Twilight visual experience. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Regardless, it could sure free up a lot of memory for FPS improvement. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

DE-SPAWN...Great idea...especially if it can be done easily. Do it daddy!

I heartily support implementing DE-SPAWN

Ya got me on that one. Would be an excellent tool in building longer, more intricate coop's and war missions.

Cheers,

If we had a DE-SPAWN triggered by waypoint or timeout it would be awesome. I can think of a large number of things it would allow efficiently within missions. Also, I can just imagine how much more interesting current missions could be with a little tweaking.

Crashing aircraft you don't want in a mission is ridiculous. How many times have you been in a mission and you got caught in the queue where 16 to 20 other AI aircraft were making the pattern to land.

How many times have you escorted a bomber group, and they dropped their bombs and turned for home. You dealt with the lower FPS the rest of the mission, because it took the bomber group so long to land or crash. (you have to crash them a good distance away, because it's bad vibes crashing them within view)

I can see why this would be useful, but fear the Twilight Zone experience. It would be cool if somehow you could incorporate the De-spawn point in a large cloud.

"I don't know what happened Sir, The bomber formation dived into the cloud cover and I lost them."

Yeah, FMB really needs this -as well as a lot of flagged events, but...

I support the idea.
