Ubisoft has done a great job creating their cities, however I would like to know exactly how realistic these cities are compared to their real life counterparts.

About 70% accurate.

what are the major deviations

There are MANY of them, and do not get wrong, I support the idea behind 99% of those. Here some examples:

1 Acre´s cathedral should have been a Romanesque more "humble" design:

Instead of a huge gothic building like this:

2 Florence lacks the famous baptistery in the main square:

3 Rome was shown with a baroque style that appeared 90 years later. The reason being to make it different from AC II cities.

4 During the time Ezio was in Constantinople. Hagia Sophia only had one minaret, instead of the 4 presented.

5 La Habana´s main landmark, its cathedral was built 40 years after the events of the game.

PD Boston and NY are probably the most accurate cities so far!For which many, including me, think those two can be considered boring.

Though they're not built one on one, I found it surprisingly easy to find my way in Florence and Venice when I was there last year; simply because I had played AC2.
Also, the buildings are of course a lot smaller in proportion to the real things.

Has anyone taken the time to compare pics of the game landmarks with the real things? That would be awesome.

Well, someone did it for a few AC1 landmarks in the forums of The Hidden Blade.

I got a thread somewhere with landmark pics of my Italy trip. Not really comparing them but most are very recognizable!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing the link!

The last pic makes me sad that the present day ended without a walk through Masyaf, like they did for Monteriggioni in Brotherhood. That was great.

Are you the one who also went to Monteriggioni? If yes, I saw that thread a few months ago and it was amazing! Those pics were sure must-see for any AC fan! It seems you also had a good time!

Wow, Masyaf Castle is a lot bigger than I thought.

The devs sure do all the research!
