i just wondered if we will see a swordfish or sea fire in this game ?

i doubt the swordfish made it to the pacific but still for the lack of carriers in FB + aces i would enjoy seeing this plane.

o/t slightly will we get the chance to do the doolittle raid ?

it would be a great shame if yet again we got more single engined fighters/bombers and missed out on the oppertunity to take some bigger multi engined planes like the B25/B29 and betty

sorry if this has been discussed before. im just curious, gratefull to have spitfires now at last but still as a brit miss the great many planes we took to war in.
thanks for your time.

Here's part of the press release :

"Fly a variety of WWII fighters and bombers: Fly for the U.S., Japan, Great Britain, and Australia in famous fighters such as the F6F Hellcat, the deadly Japanese Zero, and the UKÔ's Supermarine Seafire. Flyable bombers such as the Aichi D3A1 Val, G4M2 Betty, SBD Dauntless, and A-20 Havoc are also included. Over 40 flyable aircraft models are available."

So, there's a good chance the SeaFire will make it. There's still no offical word on the Swordfish.

One of the updates pretty much gives away there is going to be a seafire. Still I can still hope the VIII and XIV also make it in.

er...yes, Beaufighter I can't wait for. Fb110G of the Pacific.

The Mosquito wasn't much used in the Pacific as there were problems with the wooden construction in hot, high humidity conditions (ironic given the source of the balsa). However the Beaufighter did, as did the Blenheim (especially the IV). It would be nice to get a flyable Blenheim IV with rear firing chin turret too.

There were quite a number of versions of the Beaufighter - it could keep a lot of modellers very busy!

I've made no secret that I am hoping for a Firefly. Hopefully we will see the Seafire, Fulmar, and a Hurricane IV would be nice.

Have I got a Royal Navy versus Imperial Japanese Navy engagement for you!
The setting the Indian Ocean South of Ceylon, the time very early april 1942.

The Royal Navy eastern fleet Air craft carriers HMS Formidable, and HMS Indomintable, (both Illustriouse class Carriers) must have heard the distress calls from the Royal Navy Carrier HMS Hermes as she was sinking after being attacked by Val dive bombers from Admiral Nagumos attack force.

Both of these Illustriouse class carriers where out looking trying to engage the Japanese attack force.
That would be an interesting Scenario, HMS Fomidable and Indomintable versus the Imperial Japanese Naval Carriers, Akagi, Hiryu, Soryu, Shokaku, and Zuikaku.
theres a link to the fighter Aircraft that would have flown off the decks of the 2 Royal Navy Carriers, below.
They would have had to put up a desperate defence I would say.
Theres a bit of Royal Navy Airforce participation for you.

BTW, yes, Swordfishes did fly over Pacific. I'm not an expert of this plane's history, but I remember seeing in one of my modelling magazines a 3-view drawing of "Stringbag" in Far East painting scheme and markings (Ceylon based machine as I recall). On the other hand, I guess they weren't used much and soon they were replaced by lend-leased Avengers.

Well the Royal Navy Carrier HMS Hermes had been flying Hurricanes off her decks to reinforce Ceylons Air defences.
So I have no doubts at all that Swordfish would have been based at Ceylon courtesy of Royal Navy aircraft carriers, at some stage.

The interesting thing is Admiral Nagumos Attack force of Aircraft Carriers deliberatly sortied into the Indian Ocean to destroy the Royal Navy Eastern fleet.
IJN intelligence reports indicated the build up of the Royal Navy in the area, and that represented a genuine threat to the SW border area of Japans pacific campaign.
We already have a Wild Cat in the Game, and the Royal Navy fighter the Martlet was just a Wildcat with British markings on it, so you have a Naval fighter.
Already in March 1942 US Navy Dauntless dive bombers, where operating from Land bases in New Guinea attacking the Japanese airbase at Lae, so if no sword fish appears in the game, you could still build a very realistic Royal Navy versus Imperial Japanese Navy battle SW of Ceylon in early April 1942.

Combatant air groups,
Royal Navy Carriers
HMS Formidable, Indomintable, Hermes
Aircraft
Martlet (Wildcat with British Markings)
Dauntless Dive bomber or Avenger torpedoe bomber

IJN Carriers,
Agagi, Hiryu, Soryu, Shokaku, Zuikaku.
Aircraft
A6M2 Zero
Val Dive bomber
Kate Torpedoe bomber.

Nagumoes attack group swung around to the East after attacking Columbo Air base and Navy yards in Ceylon 30th Squadron RAF Hurricanes where caught on the ground at Columbo Airbase and destroyed as an effective fighting force, his Airgroups had also just sunk the Heavy cruisers HMS Dorteshire and Cornwall, his intention was to attack Tricomalee harbor, his air group caught and sunk the Royal Navy Carrier HMS Hermes headed for Tricomalee harbour, so Nagumos attack group, was already in destroy Royal Navy Eastern fleet mode.

The 2 other Royal Navy carriers where to the South West, they where searching in the wrong area.
So you do not need much of a what if Scenario for this encounter, between the Royal Navy and Imperial Japan in the Early War Period.

Also include the contributions of Task Force 57 (Mar. to May 1945) the Royal Navy component in the Okinawa landings, later redesignated TF 37 (July to August 1945) which was the British Pacific Fleet until the close of the Pacific War.
