I note that the new message on the main page says that the Aces expansion is available to pre-order 'in North America'. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

They really aren't going to release it early in the States again after the hoo-hah last time are they? Anyone heard about Euro pre orders or release dates?

I'm going to hide somewhere now http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Well, I think that's just the way of things with Ubi distribution. Was the same with Lock On as it ever was with Forgotten Battles.

I'm not sure what the North American release date is but in the UK (if that's where you are), Amazon.co.uk is reporting the following.

"This item will be released on 12 March, 2004. You may order it now and we will dispatch it to you when we receive it from our supplier. Please note that release dates are subject to change."

Cheers,

It'll nearly be my birthday by then, and I can't think of a better present than a brand new Spitfire V to fly about in. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Why the hell must the US of damned A get everything first, does only the dollar mean anything anymore. What does it matter where they sell first copies so long as it sells, not only that but games are pretty expensive here in the UK so you'd think the UK would be the most ideal market to sell to first, seen as every 2 copies sold in the UK will probably pay for 3 in the USA.

My opening line is not a dig at Americans, merely showing my frustration at planet america.

If I don't buy this expansion pack, say for financial reasons. Will I still be able to play online?

Yes you will.

I will set up a 1.22 server specially for you to play on, when everyone else has switched to the add-on.

You will be all on your own, because not even I will be joining you.

Rajvosa, where abouts in the world are you then? That's almost a full month before us Brits supposedly get it.

Although to be fair I'm not sure if we've actually moved from "projected dates" to "actual dates" yet. I expect when that happens there'll be a notice on the front page of this site.

If you remember, when FB came out, some of us Yanks refrained from making a big deal out of posting all the "WOW, this is GREAT" threads, or linking screenies for a while . . . out of respect for those that had to wait. ( eventually, everyone wanted us to post anyway so they had a clue as to what it would be like)

Even as an (USA) American, it really gets my goat that the releases would wind up here first, when demographics and common sense say that it should first be released in Russia, then Europe, since they are closer to the source. It only perpetuates the myth that all of us are rich and spoiled. Trust me, folks. Most people wouldn't want to grow up as I did.

Interesting note:
Silent Storm, a sort of XCOM based tactical team game set in WWII, was actually released in Russia first (it`s made by a Russian team), then Europe then , just recently, the US!

So it CAN be done with the right will.

It`s not a bad game , but later on loses the plot badly with ridiculous sci-fi stuff.

No disrespect intended, but is there a possibility that the US market is simply larger than than other places and therefore more likely to generate higher initial sales?

I know that players from all around the world are dying to get their hands on the game, but maybe (and really...just maybe) it's only a business decision based on actual martket size.

If I were running a game company and couldn't do a simultaneous release, I would probably pick the largest market myself.

Don't know if thats the case here, just throwing out a possibility. No American bias on my part either...I don't think that Planet America is a good idea in many ways for lots of reasons but on this subject perhaps it has nothing to do with that.

Here we are, three weeks before launch, and we know from postings on other threads that 1C is still tweaking the FM's. Want to listen in?

1C Creative-guy: "It's not ready. Betas called for serious fixes. Date is unrealistic."

Ubi Marketing-type: "Advertising is set, dealers and online orders are waiting. GO!"

Production: "Give us the d--- thing. We don't have the capacity to turn this in less than..."

Sure, this is a digital product and it can be dl'd anywhere in minutes...but the disks still have to be burned, labeled and packaged. And that's the easy part.

The U.S. is a big, integrated market, without borders or VAT. Europe and Asia are, well, more complicated, although shouldn't be a problem with this kind of product.

Frankly, at this point core customers like us have become background noise; we're likely to buy and ubi knows it. Anyway, we've shown we'll accept and fix semi-ready programs, even open betas.

Ship it!

Europe is increasingly a harmonised market
as far as tax goes, so that issue is going
away. I suspect that the issue is actually
that the initial documentation will be
in English and Russian, and that it has to
be translated. Ubi won't want to wait until
all the translations have been done, checked,
and printed before getting a revenue stream from
selling the product.

If this theory holds then the UK should get
it relatively early. Ditto France, given
that Ubi is based there and probably has
easily accessible additional resources for
a translation of the manual, etc., into French.

For the people who will buy the game in english, why not preorder from EBgames or similar site? I'm American, living in Japan. The stores on the base are always a week or two behind, especially for flight sims. If I get the game on the Japanese economy, it'll be in Japanese. But I can preorder it through EBGames and get it a day or two after the initial release. Just a thought. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

The reasons for the varyance in a game being released in different markets are varied but one of the biggest is localisation - converting a game so all in game text etc appears in that country's native tongue. Occaisionally, different countries get different box art too, reflecting content that is familiar to that nation.

With a bit of luck (please God http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif) the US edition will have a B25 on the cover and the Brit version a Spit Vb.

Hi guys!

I saw some questions directed to me, but was unable to answer earlier.

I live in Sweden, i've ordered my copy from www.webhallen.com (http://www.webhallen.com)

Hehe, yeah, as for the idea that US might get it first 'cause of the mighty dollar... that wouldn't be fitting anymore.

If it would be determined by the worth of a nation's money, then UK should get it first. After them, the entire EU would be next. Last in the line would be the US of A, since the "mighty" Dollar is worth a good deal less than the Euro.

Oh well, I just hope they don't delay that damn add-on, cause in that case NOONE would get his hands on it anytime soon.

A global release would be best, and I would sure be glad if that global date would still be the 19th feb.

S!, whatever country you are from, cross your fingers and pray! Seems we need a lil wonder here.

I'm just curious, are people upset about the possibility of a delayed European launch, because they think Ubi is actively delaying a Europe launch, or are they upset because they think, if Europe can't get the product to retail as fast as the US, that the game should be actively delayed in the US?

I ask this, because it seems as though many people believe that the delayed European release is some sort of massive conspiracy by UbiSoft to slight their European customers, when, by Occam's Razor, it's ridiculous.

However, I guess like the 1.22 patch you won't be able to play online with players who have it installed if you don't. So getting your hands on it as soon as possible is a must!
