It's finally done. The authors now have the final English translation of the program, readme, and a real Windows HELP file!

Here is a link to the NewView Windows Help file:

http://home.iprimus.com.au/djgwen/fb/newviewhelp.zip

This took me all week to do (over 40 hours) so I hope you use it and enjoy it!

I imagine that ALezz and Hruks will announce the final release of NewView version 26 shortly.

I have also sent the HELP file to Clint for posting on MudMovers.com

Although there's no official word on this yet from Hruks or =FB=Alezz, I've hosted Jetstreams full translation of the newview help document on my webspace for now.

From browsing through it, it seems much more complete than the things we were able to figure out from blind usage of the program and from the forums - even if you've read the little setup help document I compiled for NewView before, you should download and read Jetstreams translation, since it covers a lot more things and it's far more readable :>

Direct link should now be working at:

What I'd like to do.

Download the latest of everything in one download, and wipe the old stuff from my computer.

Is that possible?

If not it would be nice to get a laundry list describing exactly what and where to acquire the latest of everything for implementing the NewView in English. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I gave up on it a couple days ago, not because it was bad. I was just having problems with figuring it out. I seem to always need a little tweak to get things right. LOL

Thanks guys for all the attention to making this an even better tool. I appreciate your efforts, and I'm not a "lone appreciator"

Thanks for bringing back some of the coolness of WWII Fighters. . . . plus the extra realism of head-following stick motion. Even WWIIF didn't have that. I hope that Someone at 1C is playing with this little .dll and decides that it needs to be in the next sim.

It utilises the TrackIR capability of FB to allow smooth panning of your virtual head by using your hat-switch. (A very simplified explanation)

It has some other cool features too...

I was using the drivers for my stick to emulate mouse movement for panning, and didn't think that I'd need anything better than that. Then NewView came along and it has changed the game for me.
It is excellent, I strongly recommend downloading it.

Ok so far it does... absolutely nothing. I followed the complete guide and it does nothing. The guide is very unclear in the end, does the config program have to run in the background? Do I have to set views to snapview or set to 'steps' first?
I just can't get it to do anything at all.

Well I've downloaded 20 pages of (about)instructions,and am still trying to figure out how to"extract englishconfig_v25zip over the top ofpreviously extracted files..." while ruminating over this I've read ahead & decided that this much " adjusting of system "is just loaded with potential for me to screw it up...maybe it just sounds complicated & maybe I should just wait for the self-installing version...now wouldn't that be nice???

By "Extract the il2_newview file to a directory on your hard disk. Extract the englishconfig_v25.zip over the top of the previously extracted files, overwriting the file Config.exe.", it means you should extract il2_newview.zip to a directory, then extract englishconfig_v25.zip into the same directory into which you extracted il2_newview.zip, overwriting the file config.exe.

I don't know if the statement can be reduced much further.

Anyhow.

If the instructions are followed closely there is only a minor possibility of screwing everything up. There's an easy way to unbind your point-of-view hat controls via the IL2FB controls interface inside the game, and a quicker way where you just edit the text file in which your IL2FB control assignments are stored. You can back up this file [drive:\forgottenbattlesdirectory\users\doe\setting s.ini] before you attempt either option and put it back if you think you've messed up. If you're using a different pilot name in FB to the default, your settings.ini file will appear under that pilot name.

Deleting the directory into which you have extracted the NewView files will disable it from functioning. There is also a registry key created at KEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\NaturalPoint\NATURALPOIN T\NPClient - if you don't know what this is, and you don't have a NaturalPoint TrackIR system attached to your machine, you probably don't need to worry about removing this at all. Additionally, if you think that you've messed up NewViews own configuration file, deleting the file npclient.ini from your newview directory will reset all Newview settings to their defaults when you next load it.

As to questions about the program not working, etc, all I can suggest is that you follow the instructions in the helpfile that Jetstream100 translated. Load newview, exit newview, load FB, launch a quick flight mission, press shift and see if your eyeballs move down to the instrument panel. If that works, Newview is working, and you can quit out of FB and set up your key / button assignments as you wish.

As mentioned in the unofficial help file, Newview doesn't need to run in the background in order to work.

PS - great news about NewView supporting LO:MAC, eh? :>

Great program; can't wait for version 26.
I bought a second joystick specifically to utilise to UGear emulation that NewView offers. I love the 'head-motion' effect.

One thing I found that the FAQ doesn't tell you that is REALLY important in order to get this program working:

NewView is a .dll file, not an executable. It is 'referred to' by FB rather than 'run' as such.
However you use an executable program to configure this .dll (the program is called 'config.exe'). This writes settings to an .ini text file, and the dll reads the .ini file.
Once the dll is 'registered' (done using config.exe), it is automatically incorporated into FB at start-up.

OK, the important bit:
*config.exe does not reliably write settings to the ini file*
When bindings don't save, you need to do as follows:

Remember the code of the key you are trying to bind (Eg. ctrl (= 24 on my keyboard) doesn't save.)
Bind a key that you know *does* save to the function you want (I use 'Return' which shows a code of '16').
Open the .ini file in wordpad.
Look for the line that contains the '16' code... Eg.

Key6=16
Key2_6=0
JKey6=-1
JKey2_6=-1

And then change 16 to the code that doesn't save (24 in this case). If it is a joystick button that doesn't save (say, button 3), then change the entry like so:

Key6=0
Key2_6=0
JKey6=2 <-- note: '2' rather than '3'. Joystick buttons always one less.
JKey2_6=-1

Hopefully version 26 will address this problem.

Another problem is with the Ugear emulation (which will only concern people using two joysticks) becoming 'unhooked' during games. Simply press F1 (may have to try more than once) to 're-hook' the Ugear emulation.

For those that asked, the NewView dll is unobtrusive and does not change anything in the game settings. Just delete or move the dll to uninstall NewView. All you will have to do after uninstalling it is re-assign your hatswitch views (which you should have deleted before using NewView).

I have a question. I have Newview and love it. It works great for everything but racing( my settings). My question is -How do I set my hat to retun to center? I cannot get it to work like the original view, no snap to center. If I either toggle mode or toggle bind view, it still acts the same. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We race real close together and need to keep eyes everywhere, lol.

NewView doesn't seem to have snap views, only pan. So you need to bind a joystick button to one of the options under the 'centering' tab if you allow NewView to control your hatswitch.
You would really need this button assigned anyway, because the 'natural head movement' doesn't always centre accurately (and sometimes you want to hold your head still by holding down this button too). So it's no big deal.

However, maybe you could try this if you want snap:
Use NewView for the 'natural head movement' but bind a key for 'block POV usage'. Once it is blocked, you might be able to use snap hatswitch assigned normally in FB(?).

As mentioned in Jetstream100's posts on the topic, you can toggle NewView between different view styles via keypress. One of which should correspond to snap views.

Also, regarding natural head movement:

There are several key settings to the 'natural head movement' speed and centering. All of these can be found under the Additional Settings > Speeds tab.

Bind To Primary Joystick Axis X/Y controls the amount of head motion that will result from X/Y axis movement of the selected joystick in the Joystick tab. Setting this to higher numbers such as 10 or 11 means that your view will be able to traverse all the way around in the cockpit as a result of your primary joystick movement. This can prevent you from being able to see where you're going at all, so it's not recommended. If you set this number to a fractional value such as 0.10 the view will still move quite briskly but it will be limited in its motion to about 30-40 degrees off-center. Fractional numbers smaller than the 0.1 "jumps" the arrows will give you, such as 0.000000000000001, are supported for all values in the Speeds tab.

ViewPoint Movement Quotient combines with the Bind To Primary Joystick Axis X/Y setting. "Bind to Primary..." controls the range of movement, Viewpoint Movement Quotient controls the speed of that movement. Note that setting a very small value in the Bind To Primary Joystick Axis will quite likely prevent you from being able to see the results of a high Viewpoint Movement Quotient value.

Return Quotient controls the tendency of the viewpoint to auto-center back to looking straight ahead. This does not counter-act constant stick input. If you are holding the stick to the extreme right, your eyeballs will always look at the extreme right until you center the joystick. This value controls the strength of auto-view-centering when not challenged by other stick input. It is best to set this value to quite a high number, such as 7.00, in order to avoid having to re-center the view manually with the "center without return" command on the Buttons > Combinations > Centering controls tab.

Compensation Angle Quotient controls the speed at which the viewpoint movement will slow down when hitting the extreme of the Bind To Primary Joystick Axis range value. Although this sounds contradictory, it makes sense in the game. A high value in this section will result in the view movement appear to hit an invisible wall at the end of the allowed off-center-angle when you have your joystick at maximum deflection.

These secondary settings interact with Bind To Primary Joystick Axis values very strongly, and it is recommended that you experiment making changes to each value on its own, test the results, and then adjust to your preference accordingly.

My settings for these:
Bind To Primary Joystick X/Y: 0.07
ViewPoint Movement Quotient: 6.00
Return Quotient: 7.00
Compensation Angle Quotient: 3.50
