Years ago there was a local company doing warbird restorations. I think they are the same folks that keep Miss America in shape.

Anyway, I wandered into their shop one day and they had an A-20 sitting on the floor with no wings (looked tiny) and a 109 on its gear with no wings. Looked completely miniscule. I was surprised to walk up to it and easily see in the cockpit. I am exactly 6ft tall, so I'm no NBA player.

I have no idea of the Mark, but it may have belonged to the Cofederate Air Force. Unfortunately I hadn't fully developed my interest in warbirds quite yet so I didn't get any video or pics.

Haven't seen a 109 in person since. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif I wonder who has it now......

if you live in the UK, you have just probably seen the Breitling Fighters, owned by the OFMC.

they have a spit, mustang, P40 and corsair.
plus a few others to boot including a Bf109 and hurricane.

I live near Biggin Hill and see these whenever the airshows are on.
I have recently been treated to sights of the BBMF (Lancaster, Spit and Hurri) this weekend!

plus I often see the B17 all doing low flypasts for the show. My house is right on their flightpath back home to Duxford, where most of them are based.

Cheers. Tonedog.

The OFMC now only have the Mustang and Spitfire... The Hispano Buchon had a fatal accident, the P-40, La 9 and Corsair are in New Zealand, and they never had a Hurricane (although they have been known to borrow them).

Yes, in 1999 Mark Hanna was sadly killed from injuries sustained from the crash of G-BOML (I beleive that was the a/c in question) while in Spain. As I understand, not Mr. Hanna's fault, although I have agreed not to elaborate or disclose my source (I happened to get in contact with someone who knows the whole story, poke around the web, you may find out how to learn what happened too, but please keep in mind that Mark Hanna was not only a superlative pilot, but a genuine and caring Human Being who was a real person and still has loved ones alive, and his death was and is a very serious and tragic affair)

Anyway, someone made me an RAF pilot Mark Hanna skin once. Here he is flying an RAF Musatng IV

like i said, i'm not sure about the other two, the spit was ZD B and the mustang had invasion stripes. i didn't get any photos, and i don't see why people are being so stupid, porbably jealous, i often see nice planes around airshow time, i see the BBMF once every few years, last year after the farnborough airshow i saw a WWII piper, two rapides, and a late model spitfire. but if you don't belive me...

Yes, Mark's Dad, Ray, still flys warbirds with the OFMC I beleive. In a big way, Ray Hanna IS OFMC. His son's death is a huge loss, but Mark did a lot for the Warbird community and for people who weren't even involved in aviation, too, and I'm sure that's a legacy worth having, at least. Not to trivialise it, I have the utmost respect for the Hannas, but everybody dies, it's what you do with the time you have that makes us different. Mark Hanna seems to have put his to good use http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I never got to meet either of them, but I miss Mark's contributions to Warbirds Worldwide a lot. When he flew a plane that was featured, he gave a very thorough analysis of the plane's merits and quirks, which was technical enough to make perfect sense on an aeronuatical level, but also down-to-earth enough for someone who didn't know aeronautics from Apple Brown Betty to understand.

They say that although he was a great pilot, he was an even better person. Oh well, when I croak, it's my beleif I'll get to meet all the people I always wanted to but had passed on. I'm looking forward to meeting Mark Hanna, Tom Jefferson, and Mark Twain to name a few. I've almost got to meet 'em three times now http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I'll get lucky one day http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I was in Normandy in 1984, for the 40th celebration of D-Day. While standing on the beach were my unit (First Infantry Division) landed, out of the haze from England flew a Lancaster bomber with a escort of 2 Spitfires. Man, that was a Blast-from-the-past!! That is a sight I will always remember.
