Fascinating stuff! It's amazing to see how much was known (and openly published) about the German a/c at the time. Interesting mention of the Pe-8 too.

I'd never join a club that would have ME as a member!!.

Interesting read. Wasn't the Pe-8 a 1940 design? If that's so the western allies didn't learn about it until two years later (!).

probably - it seems there is/was a distinct lack of information about soviet airplanes by the western allies - i suppose as they weren't shooting them down and therefore capturing specimens it didn't help also - in addition i guess there was more need to know about enemy types. From the content of the magazine it seems we knew far,far more about the enemy aircraft than we did our soviet allies.

o and toad sorry - it's from Aircraft recognition journal - i normally put a scan of the cover in and links to previous posts but because i didn't crop the scan properly and could'nt be bothered to go back into photoshop and re crop and upload again /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif .

if you hang on a minute i'll delve back to last month and bring up all the links to previous months news. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Fascinating stuff! Is the panel on the 109 meant to open like that or do you think it's just broken?

It was a standard maintenance panel. It is probably opened up by german mechanics who wanted to steal some vital parts of the engine to use on other aircraft or, to prevent the allies to start the engine and try the 109 out for themselves.

shall be judged: and with what
measure ye mete, it shall be
measured to you again.
