I dont like the icons for game play,
but I do like the target that is padlocked to be identified.
is there a way to turn off all icons, except the padlock identifier?

Many thanks
Nick

icons & padlock are 2 different things

in-cockpit padlock locks on the plane no matter if it is freindly or a bandit

external padlock for Bandits is F6

this is the command for icons ~~~> >mp_dotrange FOE

then type in your different label perferences

then this is the command for freindly
>mp_dotrange FREINDLY

You can do it if you use IL-Manager.

Enable icons and padlock

You can choose (in IL-2 Manager) from several icon settings ranging from full to range only to none. Select none.

Then, if you hit padlock enemy, it will padlock only the enemy, not any friendlies, but you won't see any icons.

I think this only works offline but you could try it on line if you are hosting. Never tested it that way.

(actually, I think I'm telling you basically what Badsight is saying, but the IL-2 Manager does it with a flip of a switch rather than all that typing.) (and don't mis-spell friendly as he did http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)

To answer your question, make sure that the 'No Icons' box is checked and the 'No padlock' box is unchecked. Of course, these are in your Difficulty settings.

With these settings, you will have no icons at all until you padlock a target, at which time the green Padlock Triangle will frame the target.

The important thing to remember about these settings is that the 'Padlock Friendly' and 'Padlock Enemy' commands will be merged into a general 'Padlock Target' command. You will need to ID the target in order to determine if it is friend or foe.
