2 new Missions for tonight, one is based on on memoirs of soviet IL-2 Pilot, HSU Drachenko.

"It happened on August 14th. Sun was about to settle down but our command gathered all pilots who had experiance of flying in the dark and gave orders in for 3 groups of 6 Sturmoviks attack tanks that were moving in the evening hours towards Valki - Kharkov. I had to fly in this mission too.

Commander of the regiment Lavrinenko was leading our flight and 10 Fighters Yak-3 were escort. Our flight did not promise any big surprizes, everything was checked out and accounted for, but something was still bothering me.

Command for take off took all my thoughts away , engine took a high note , full throttle and plane went into the skies, it looked like it was trying to catch a signal rocket that was just fired. Formation of our planes "right peleng" all the time i look to the sides, up and down.

It is getting darker and darker and our leader was afraid that darkness is going to catch us in the air. He decided to take a shortcut thru Merefa, major railroad station that was surrounded by massive amounts of AAA.

On the approach to the station feirce anti-aircraft fire got on our way. Entire sky was lit up with explosions and tracert fire fron all calibers. But that could be half of the problem...all of a sudden it stopped and group of approximately 20 ME109s fell on us from the clouds.

Now i can see that were are really in big tourble! One of Sturmoviks already smoking and falling towards the ground...another spinning down...and third one pointed nose down..going into last dive leaving long tail of flames behind. Above us, escort fighters were tight up with overwhelming hordes of messershimdts. But remaining 109s were all over us with evil precision. Leading plane of third group under command of Shapovalov is heavily damaged, Barerly hanging in the air plane of his wingman, i see huge holes in the tail and rudder of Boychenko IL2... he manged to get in formation with Shapovalov and they headed back, towards front lines....

Four messers saw an easy target and decided to finish off those two but Ovchinnikov got on their way , he opened fire from all available weapons nad confused german fighters for a moment. One of the germans recovred from confusion rather quickly and tried to jump on the tail of Sturmovik that was attacking them..but didn`t see other IL2 behind and it was downed by fire of Smirnov`s Sturmovik. Other german was shot down by rear gunner, sgt Bogudinov. "Skinny" (nick name for 109) dipping a wing started spinning towards the ground.
In all this mess germans separated few planes from the main group and pushed them towards their AAA position. Clouds of explosions surrounded our planes... I looked to the left and noticed a line of tracers approaching my plane..closer and closer. I pushed stick forward trying to evade but still heard sounds of crashing metal parts.

First i thought that one of the shells hit me, or maybe shock wave from high caliber shook the plane, so i dove down and flew for few minutes right near the ground. Then i gained some altitude and put my plane into level flight... damn, i was flying in the wrong direction, towards the enemy territory...

New explosion shook Sturmovik, i looked at the gauges... and most of them were gone, it looked like someone took a hammer and smashed the whole panel. Sturmovik became heavy on controls and started to lose altitude. I could see positions of AAA, trenches, german soldiers... A lot of infantry near the road, i have to stay in the air.. i gotta get to those woods.
Cockpit started to fill up with fumes and smoke, it was hard to breathe...

- Get machinegun ready and hang on tight - command to my rear gunner.

And suddenly lound explosion of impact, it felt like plane just hit some invisible wall. Brutal forces ripped me off my seat and my mind started to cloud up , black and red circles ... blood coming out of my nose... ground was approaching very fast. Exremely lound high pitch nose was hurting, drilling my ears and it felt like i am falling somewhere in the bottomless shaft and there was no end to this fall.... "

COOP:
3 Flights of 6 Sturmoviks with escort of 10 Yak-3s has to attack tank column. On their way they will be intercepted by german AAA over rail station and then by flight of 20 Me-109s, 10 G6 Late and 10 G10s. 22 pilot seats.

Another COOP has no historical background...and made for P-47, P-51 Lovers:

8 B-17s in formation has to bomb strategic target. 8 p-47s and 8 P-51 Mustangs is going to escort them on this mission.

Their flight will be intercepted by 8 FW190D, 4 Me109 G6 Late and 4 Me109 G10s. 22 pilot seats.

Also we have about 8 missions that we (Korolov) created previously and they are exellent IMO.

I should start hosting around 10pm eastern time approx till 1-1:30am.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.
