Dear Champions,

Gazal is Academy’s version of a milling hero. It’s been around for a while in the game, and the Lady here wants to show you how it’s done.
First, she uses Light and Primal for magic, but milling is a Creature/Fortune strategy. Everything related to milling needs creatures to activate. We made sure that this archetype’s battles are still fought with creatures.
When you activate Gazal’s ability, you draw a card whenever you mill your opponent.

This expansion relies a lot on graveyards and it gave us a good reason to create solutions against those strategies. Graveyard recursion and milling are still viable strategies, there’s just more answers to them now.

Faction: Academy (Void)
Orders: Council of Nine, House Anima
Magic Schools: Light, Primal

Gazal was born in the deserts of the Sahaar to a noble Wizard family of Shahibdiya, while they were travelling through the vast dunes to lay claim to a newly discovered Dragon Vein Nexus. The family discovered the Nexus the following day and multiplied by one hundred fold their already considerable wealth. Gazal, named after a wandering gazelle that lead them to the Nexus, was proclaimed the fortune bringer of their clan. In recognition, they did everything they could to spoil her rotten, but were only partially successful.

Gazal could light a fire with a flick of her wrist at the age of seven, and at the age of nine she invoked an ice-storm that covered an oasis she had discovered in the Sahaar desert, and lasted for a day in spite of the scalding heat. Though the exploit nearly killed the little Gazal, it proved that she was destined for greater things. She left the deserts and returned to the Seven Cities to study magic.

Gazal’s tremendous self-confidence served her well as she became one of the most accomplished and powerful Wizards of the Seven Cities. Named head of House Anima at the tender age of thirty-five, she was voted onto the Council of Nine on her first nomination. She has never even considered resigning from her lifetime position, though many do after the first seven-year term to follow magical studies or personal pursuits. Gazal has only ever had one ambition: restore to House Anima its rightful title as first House, and recover its status as the most powerful school of magic in the Seven Cities and all of Ashan.

Gazal argues relentlessly that the only reliable weapon is the Wizard’s staff, and that if the Wizards become nothing more than generals and fat merchants, the Seven Cities will one day fall into decay.
“A well-trained Wizard is a match for any army, provided the Council of Nine doesn’t make you fight with your staff tied to your back.”

Hm, nice! I don't like milling too much, but I like what you have wrote.

Btw, is that Academy's achievement hero, like Ariana and Crag Hack are, or is it from the new cycle of heroes like Ignatius?

Depends on the rating (cards used / card milled) and nothing prevents you from using more than 59 cards if your strategy needs it.

She's part of the Lord cycle (she's a Lady you see!). We haven't revealed Academy's achievement Heroes... yet! :)

how do you guys at ubi chose names??? do you select a word at random without doing any research on what it means..and just throw it out there....

the ghazal is a lyrical form of expression (in poem or song) very common and typical in indo persian culture...not a girl name

that aside ..really wondering how the milling strategy will be

Well, "ulpsz" means "pointless" in Sanscrit, but I'm not saying anything...

About the Lady - she's not that pretty, but her gamestyle may be amusing. We'll see. :)

it can actually be a girls name I actually reasearched it on the net..should have done so before I posted
...my bad...

realy lame nerd joke there bazaltovy (prima qualitaet wie deine unterschcrift sagt)....while it may seem pointless to most of you "uncultured lot":p - I find it very important for something to be accurate flavourwise from all points of view....

I played only a few vidogames in my time but in all of them the refrences to mythology or certain culture are totally out of place (like they have been done by 12 year olds) - see uninspired names for sanctuary creatures ....

Implying that you made these references...

Is this the actual artwork or is it going to be cleaned up before the release? If you wanted to call a mulligan I'm sure the DoC community would support you on this. Otherwise you're just asking for derisive posts if she turns out to be playable.

The artwork for Gazal, Herald of the Void looks solid, perhaps you could move back in that direction.
