for the last 2 weeks i played almost exclusively online (it was the start of my online career). some of people who play on the war-clouds servers might know me because i am an easy target. but you just can't imagine how much playing online increased my skills off-line. in fact yesterday i played off-line for the first time in weeks and when i set up my classic qmb matchups (i.e. equally strong planes, 1-1 vs. veteran ai) i was amazed how easy i scored kills. fights which usually lasted 5 minutes and which i won 7 out of 10 times were ended in my favour either after the first pass or within the first 2 minutes. i especially noticed how my gunnery skills increased, most of all my deflection shooting. i was sooooo happy because after getting constantly shot down or crashing because pushing the plane too much on war-clouds44+ i thought that i was making no progress at all. yesterday i found out that my skills, also maybe not visible for you, really increased, at least off-line. this gives me new motivation to go online again and finally manage to get somewhere near a 1-1 ratio. so next time when you dive on glottis' p51, before you kill him know that he thanks you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The story of my life... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif In fact, I sometimes practice using different planes so that I can learn about them faster than playing off-line. I also try different tactics on-line just to see what kind of reaction I will get... The point to remember when you get shut down is always to figure out why and what went wrong.

You'd be amazed at how much you'll improve or at least understand how the plane flight model, pilot skill, environment, etc influence combat in the air...

And one last thing... never be depressed at first. If you continue playing, you will improve and will enjoy it even more. Patience, watch and learn. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Glottis,

Rgrt - I've only been online a couple of months and have recently switched to War Clouds 44+ or ToH after using mostly 'cockpit-off' servers before.

I wish Messerschmitt had put mirrors on their aircraft! I usually don't even know I have a problem until I see the holes in my windscreen, and sometimes I don't even get to fire my guns for 3 or 4 missions, LOL!

It IS a great place to learn quickly, however, and the other guys seem very good to me. I really like the historical plane sets in ToH, so you don't get squadrons of Ki-84s to face.

Great servers both. See you there Glottis so you can use me as some of your own cannon fodder!

The offline improvement is only temporary. While I usually give better than I get online I can no longer fight the AI. Only when a new patch comes out do I do acouple QMB missions and nothing I know about how planes perform or how pilots fight applies. The AI behaves just plain weird to me.

I agree that AI are "little" weird, you can "train" in QMB till the cows go home and still once you get online you are more likely smoking hole in the ground then anything else http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Altitude, speed, manoeuvre and.... CRASH!

Heh, I know what you mean Lunix. What's up with the weird stall climb thing they do? When I try that I stall out 50% of the time. Then they come out of it and seemingly lose no E. Very strange..

What I'd like to appreciate is your attitude, glottis. Very refreshing. You could have gone the usual route of blaming plane, pilot, cheats online etc., instead you realize that every defeat also leads to improvement as your skills get better.
