R u a current UK ATC Cadet? I used to be a cadet a few years back, we used to fly in Chipmunks and then the Bulldogs. I even got a ride in an RAF Air Sea Rescue Sea King, which was nice.

Yes, I am a current air cadet. We fly the tutors now (I flew from boscombe down on sunday) and I have had a flight in a Jetstream. What squadron were you from?

Depends how cheap is cheap. Radeon 9600 is pretty low priced right now and works really good with this game. If you want cheaper check out the Radeon 9200. www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) is a good place to look, good service and low prices.

If you wanna go Cheap, the ATI manufactured 9200 (non~SE) is the way to go. Do you have a AGP motherboard? If you don't have AGP capable motherboard, I don't know if the 9200 comes in PCI version. It may. I dunno. FB is the only game I play, and this is my first real video card.

I just got ATI~9200 last week. It was an Infinite step above my Savage motherboard video and installed flawlessly...and...I didn't have to uninstall my motherboard video drivers so they are still there if I need them (I think).

They say don't get the uber cheap 9200SE version (unless you have to). Make sure you get the ATI made 9200 and not some other manufacturer. I dunno, not knowing anything about these things, I just stuck with the ATI made card.

You can find them on internet for maybe ~80$ or more at computer show. I got mine at CompUSA for 100$ but also got a 10$ 1-year warranty that I only have to bring it into the local store here in town and they (CompUSA) will replace it if it breaks (so the story goes)--but I know it will not break--I have this habit of buying lower end tech that always seems to last forever--nothing like the Fly Near The Sun tech that burns out and falls to Earth.

9200SE is cheaper, but stay away...or so the gamers say.

I am so glad you guys are upgrading! Not only will you enjoy the sime even more, you are also allowing yourselves to enjoy more graphically complex arenas, which also means more stuff to shoot and kill!

I just upgraded from a 9700pro to a 9800XT (kid needed my 9700pro) and the difference was not that great at all, so if you can find a 9700pro anywhere, get it!

LOL RIIIIGHT!!! The kid needed your 9700..LOL you sound like me. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
I just upgrade from a 9500Pro to a 9800 Pro... I see a jump in frames but more importantly a significant jump in quality. I can now fly at Max quality n OGL with decent FRs...
J_Flyer I would suggest you not go below a 9600 if you can get one... http://www.pricewatch.com/ If you go there you can go from a 9600 at $68 to a 9600XT256 at $175. You want something that will at least fit on the low to middle end with any future upgrade so you wont have to upgrade everything at once. The 9200 though a decent budget card does not fit that bill.

My point exactly. A good 9700pro overclocked (stock cooling) is an awesome card! I was totally shocked. I think you can still find 9700pros out there, and for a lot less than I paid for mine, and heaps less than a 9800XT.

Haha, Bearcat, well, you obviously know the drill :P I guess I need to remove my salesman hat when talking to you guys :P But this has been my 'upgrade path' since the kids were little, and it still works very well!

The 9200's do come in PCI versions...mostly from Sapphire but they are really awesome cards for a very good price. I can find them as cheap as about $90-$120 Canadian for the standard (non SE) 9200's. Its not a dedicated gaming card but its much better than a 16mb card. Get and AGP type card if you can and PCI if you can't (AGP is a dedicated graphics port standard on most machines for some time now, PCI is a all in one kind of expansion slot). If you are willing to spend a bit more the 9600's are quite a bit better.

Used to be in 2477 Britwell Squadron, we flew with AEF6 out of Benson, I got the Sea King ride on Summer Camp at RAF St Morgan in Cornwall, i took part in an RAF emergency services training exercise, i was 'critically wounded' in an aircraft crash and had to be airlifted (taken for a 20 min sortie over the Bristol Channel) to hospital, which was great fun.

I am amazed that nobody has mentioned Nvidia cards here. I just recently upgraded from a Geforce FX 5200 to a 5600 with 256MB RAM, and its like an entirely new game. I bought mine at new egg and it was only 130 bucks. That extra 256MB of RAM will help in later games also.
