What can I say, I'm in a thread-making mood today ;)

Screwing around on Wikipedia researching pirates 'n stuff when I found out about this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Sam_Bellamy

He was a TOTAL badass. Raked in over $120 million in a one-year career, almost ten times Blackbeard's entire fortune. You think we'll see him? He apparently hung around with Benjamin Hornigold and Blackbeard, and since he died in 1717, he could possibly even be an assassination target.

Edit- I have no idea why there's an angry face in the thread title, that was entirely unintentional! D: How do I remove it?

Well that's an unnecessary angry face.

I don't know about target, from that page it makes him seem like a pretty nice guy "Bellamy became known for his mercy and generosity toward those he captured on his raids. This reputation earned him another nickname, the "Prince of Pirates". He likened himself to Robin Hood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Hood), with his crew calling themselves "Robin Hood's Men.""
Maybe a friend? I could imagine him being an ally introduced who we end up liking, then he gets killed and we get pissed.

Maybe he's an Assassin. We already know that some of our pirate buddies will be Templars.

He could have survived.

Hmmm... Am I the only one remembering Paul Bellamy (http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Paul_Bellamy) from AC The Fall? He is an descendant of Aveline de Grandpre (in AC The Chain he is under the control of Abstergo) and maybe... he could also be a descendant of Sam Bellamy.

Well what a damn shame that is. I heard there was speculation he was the subject viewing Aveline's memories, maybe he's alive!

can we get back to Sam rather than Paul?

..that would be funnier if Sam's name was Saul..

It would be a missed opportunity if Sam Bellamy isn't present in the game. If he is though I would expect him to be an ally or an ambiguous villain.

It sounds like Edward could possibly be based on Sam Bellamy though...

What if Edward IS Sam Bellamy? Edward was originally going to the Caribbean to become a privateer under Hornigold. Bellamy was a pirate serving under Hornigold.

What if Edward paid the guy who wrote that History of Pyrates book to keep his direct name out of it?

It would be somewhat cool I guess. But it would risk feeling a little off--stuff like that rarely happened.

There have been theories that Captain Charles Johnson (author of the book of pirates) was actually Edward.

'Twas my theory as well :p Whether he's actually Edward or not, I think he'll be referenced at least.

Does anyone know why Sam Bellamy didn't feature in the game?
I'm reading 'The Republic of Pirates' which was a huge inspiration according to Darby and Bellamy features quite heavily in it...

To avoid adding historical characters for the sake of historical characters. Would Sam Bellamy's appearance really make a difference on the plot? Eh, most likely not.

I think one of the advantages of AC4 is how tight the cast is. Everybody has got a set-up and a resolution (even minor characters such as Burgess and Cockram which serve as future assassination targets are still introduced beforehand). And even then, there's still a feeling of some characters being underused. Don't think that having another prominent pirate would've helped.

EDIT: He's present in the AC:Pirates game though, I think. Haven't played it, so I can't say for sure, but IIRC his name was featured in the game's description.
