View Full Version : What do i do if I don't care for NAVAL COMBAT

I'm a fan of the franchise and i played all of them except the psvita one. Well, AC3 sucked. Worst AC ever. Naval combat sucked, but the freerunning was ok. combat was sluggish. Story was awful. Cities were trash. I have high hopes for AC4 on PS4. Looks cool and the map is huge with lots of activities, assassination contracts, recruiting assassins/pirates, being an assassin, etc.

Ok, If I don't like Naval Combat, what else is in store for AC4. How does it capture being a pirate and a cool assassin at the same time. Any new customization options, assassination contracts, cool epic cities, courtesans, etc. What's gonna keep me playing the game. AC3 sucked for me and my favorite is Ac2 and Brotherhood.

Seriously. What about being an assassin? Customization? Conflicting between being a pirate or an assassin? I DONT CARE ABOUT NAVAL COMBAT! WHAT MORE IS THERE IN AC4!!!!

Ships, it's all ships. Nought but ships, boats, galleys and dingies. 200 hours of waves winds sails and rigging, 89 missions of transporting goods and the occasional sea battle.

The devs confirmed that 100% of the missions in AC4 will be naval missions and you will spend your time on your ship, looting and shooting other ships. You'll step on land only in cutscenes..

Don't listen to them, they're being silly. The entire game is actually set with in a bath where you are a kid playing with his toys, before you are tragically stared at by a turtle with hypothermia.

It's actually set here, where I live. You get to have land missions when it stops raining. The rest 364 days per year you spend swimming or underwater.

LOL! I miss rainy climates... grrrr. ... the desert....
Anyway, to provide you with an honest answer, devs have said that it's 40% Naval, 60% Land, though of course, that will vary from player to player.
I'm going to say it though, your observations about AC3 make me sad :(
I love Naval. I go back and replay the naval missions more than any others. I can't wait to have the whole of the Caribbean to explore!

... way to derail another thread.

You have Naval Combat highlighted, so I'm just going to focus on that aspect. The games missions, include side stuff, is 60% land, 40% water, JUST like AC3. It was the exact same ratio. Now in AC3 I think there were only 3-4 mandatory story missions involving your ship, the rest were optional privateer contracts.

However, they are now going for seemlessness. A fight could start on land, and end up at sea like in that 13 minute demo that was shown around 3 weeks ago which could make it more interesting for you in that respect.

As for engaging in Naval combat, you don't have to do the naval side missions, and if you sea ships fighting in the distance you don't have to engage them. But going back to side missions, I don't think that they will be as clear cut as Naval missions and Land missions as like I mentioned before, they could cross both areas.

You're just going to have to bite the bullet and just deal, I disliked the amount of Naval missions in AC3 but just go through all the Naval missions as soon as they are available get them out of the way, then just enjoy the rest of the game, without worrying about the Naval Missions. :)

Thanks for posting that info. :)

Those ratios seem fine with me, I'm happy as long as there is more land gameplay than water. :)

Im not a naval fan myself,

However changing your outlook on it may help.

The ship will be your boarding vessel, your millennium falcon, your jack daw.

It willl be the second home and your vehicle towards liberty and treasury into the world.

Your first home will be some villa Edward keeps as a reserve and hideout of all his treasures.

When embarking upon new land you will unboard your vessel and start your work through the beautifull land of the carribean and its beautifull cities to further your quest.

So I think you should leave out all what you knew about naval stories from your past and start new with Edward.
