So I guess you can play this on a Mac mini... Too bad, I was looking forward to this.

Me too, I'm hoping to play this on my 2011 Mac Mini...it has "Intel HD Graphics 3000 512MB"...will that be good enough? Sorry I don't follow the gfx card scene much.
I am able to play the current Rocksmith in Windows 7 in Boot Camp, but I have to set the resolution down a bit. Thanks.

Are there any software requirements such as Uplay or Steam. On Steam it states Uplay as 3rd party DRM but pre-order sites don't list anything.

Steam is necessary for PC and I'm pretty sure Uplay will be across the board.

It says in the FAQ's that 2014 is not backwards compatible cross-platform. That said, I want to be able to play multiplayer online with my dad using this game, but I have a Mac and he has a PC as well as an Xbox 360. Would that be possible if I bought him a PC version and I had the Mac version?

There is no online multiplayer, no matter what system you're on. The closest thing is leader boards. You will be on the same leader boards since you will both be going through Steam.

I am thinking about running RS14 on my MacBook which is a late 2008 model. I am not sure if it will run because of the processor.

2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MM
OS X 10.8.5

Do you guys think it will work?

I installed Rocksmith 2014 via Steam and I get the following error when double clicking on the game from steam.

"Rocksmith is not compatible with your version of Windows."

I am running Windows Vista 64 Ultimate. Is the 64 bit vista not compatible with the game? I have never seen an error like this before with any other game either through steam or without it. I also also double checked and DirectX is fully up to date.

You need to post the correct specs: never anywhere in this section it says in the specs that you need to own the stupid USB cable (even if you have other guitar i/f). I certainly built my "no cable" purchase on already having such equipment and feel ripped off if I indeed have to additionally purchase the cable. :mad:

For everyone's info: the software will only accept audio input from their proprietary device despite not calling this out directly. The hint is hidden somewhere in the audio device setup FAQ in smallprint in the text.

It is very clearly stated in multiple places that a cable (which is not included in the download version) is required. The following link is just one of those places and would have been the first place you would have to have clicked if you purchased on uPlay.

Will RS 2014 run on an old 2009 MacBook Pro 13" with a 9400M Nvidia and 4Gb of RAM? I can use Bootcamp but i do prefer the native mac version

I really want this game and i don't care about all the eye-candy i just want to play it with acceptable framerate even on very low settings.

Thanks

I tried installing on XP before I noticed that Windows 7 is the minimum, but it didn't give me that message. However, it doesn't seem to get any audio from my guitar, so I guess it doesn't work on XP.

I am a new guitar player wanna be. I know nothing about playing the guitar. That being said I don't want to have to buy a whole new system just to use Rocksmith 2014. After reading the OP notes and system requirements. It looks like I am dead in the water with my system .. agree ?????

MacMini mid2011 & OSX Mavericks don't works with Rocksmith
I got MacMini intel core i7 2,7 GHz and with AMD HD 6630M 256 MB RAM but the funny thing under Windows 7 pro 64bit it works so perfect without problems is very fast, no problems with latency it works very directly with no lose of time or whatever, the tone appears in the same moment by shred the guitar. Under Mac OSX 10.9 it don't works, the game starts, after then Steam crashed and Rocksmith keep the screen frozen and nothing starts. I had changed the configs also in System Prefs for steam. Somebody got the same problems, too ????

but corious is also for other hand with my MacBook Pro, mid 2009, intel core 2 duo 2,66 GHz and 8 GB RAM and with nVidia M9400 / M9600 GT it works with OSX Mavericks with no problems, but the videos working slower.

I would also appreciate if someone could tell me, whether I can run RS2014 on this:

MacBook Pro
13-inch, Early 2011
Procesor: 2,3 GHz Intel Core i5
RAM: 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)

I'm a bit afraid I cannot play it at high frame rate with that GPU. And what about Mavericks? I heard there were some bugs. Are they fixed already?
Any answer will be much appreciated. Thanks!

I`m trying to install RS2014 on my MacBook Pro. But it stops half way, wanting to update Steam. Saying : Steam needs to be online to update, please confirm your network connection and try again.
My network is just fine.

This is a pretty big bummer. New game, new guitar. But canīt play any of it.

What is going on ??

Try just updating steam first before trying to install the game.

I'm having a severe issue with latency and lag on my computer.

Computer Specs:

Laptop Dell Vostro 1700
Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1
Ram: 4GB
DirectX 11
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

When I start up the game, as soon as it comes online, nothing but severe lag. The music in the background, the video, everything, very slow. When I try to play my guitar on it, I hear a lot of static, but some sound. During and throughout playing songs, the entire game slows down, including audio and video of the game.

Here is my rocksmith.ini file configs:

[Audio]
EnableMicrophone=0
ExclusiveMode=1
LatencyBuffer=16
ForceDefaultPlaybackDevice=
ForceWDM=0
ForceDirectXSink=0
Win32UltraLowLatencyMode=1
DumpAudioLog=0
MaxOutputBufferSize=0
[Renderer.Win32]
ShowGamepadUI=0
ScreenWidth=1280
ScreenHeight=720
Fullscreen=2
VisualQuality=1
RenderingWidth=0
RenderingHeight=0
EnablePostEffects=1
EnableShadows=1
EnableHighResScope=1
EnableDepthOfField=1
EnablePerPixelLighting=1
MsaaSamples=4
DisableBrowser=0
[Net]
UseProxy=1

Can anyone help me understand how to fix this problem? I do have an XBOX 260 and a PS3, but I don't have the disc for the game and don't want to have to buy it again (I'm willing to set it up on those however, if I don't have to pay for the game again and it'll come out better). Thanks!!!

I want to play rocksmith 2014 on my PC but I can't because it doesn't recognize my 3rd party 1/4" audio to usb converter as a "realtone cable". I imagine your going to suggest buying the cable separately but that isn't going to be possible for at least another week and then it's going to cost as much as the game itself just to have the cable shipped to me a week after it becomes available... in a week. What does your Realtone audio cable do that my cable does not. Is there a console code or something that will allow me to use this piece of software which I have purchased before Christmas? Will you sell me a realtone audio cable?

It's bad enough that I have to log in to an online server so that you can watch me learn to play guitar but with these hoops to jump through I'm forced to wonder if this software is worth the money I've already spent or if this is merely an underhanded way of selling cables (you know like DVI, except I can buy those in stores)

Now I must go to the steam community pages and warn others not to buy this game unless they already own a physical copy of the old one.

Hi Kragax. I too have a Windows 8.1 laptop. The software installs and runs successfully, but my laptop won't recognize the Real Tone Cable provided with RS2014. This means I can hear the sounds generated by RS14 but not the sounds I play on my guitar. I believe the problem is there is no Windows 8.1 USB driver out yet (at least that I could find) so until this driver is provided, anyone using Windows 8.1 is dead in the water. To all: has anyone found a compatible USB driver for Windows 8.1 yet?

Hey guys
Looking to purchase this game but I'm not sure if I'm meeting the system requirements (particularly for the VRAM)

Intel Core i5 3.6 ghz
16 GB RAM
USB 3.0
Windows 7

My question is that I am using the onboard Intel graphics card on my MB, would I be able to still play this?

Also, I am using a KVM to split between my two machines, anyone know if this may present an issue?

Thanks in advance

Don't waste your time installing Rocksmith on a laptop, the audio sucks even if your laptop exceeds the minimum requirements.
Rocksmith support won't help either. They blamed it on my graphics card because it's not a supported card. I'm not having any problems with my graphics, just the audio. Lots of distortion and delay. The PC version on a laptop sucks!

I purchased RS2014 before I realized my laptop was not powerful enought to run game. So before I can get started on the 60 day challange I need to get a new laptop.
Can someone please help with suggestions on laptops to purchase. I've been looking at models available with windows OS but not sure which make / models are right for game. Plus it seems like many laptops no longer come with cd/dvd disc player. I would like stick with a windows OS laptop. All suggestions on make and models to properly run RS2014 will be welcome.

You're speaking for yourself, not the majority. I've had zero problems with my HP laptop, purchased it October 2012 for RS1 PC launch and it serves as a dedicated RS machine ( I have a Macbook Pro for daily computer use).

So far my year-old laptop has logged 900 successful hours played of RS1 and 150 successful hours played on RS14 with a minimum spec machine:

HP Pavilion dv7-7030us 17.3-Inch Laptop

Intel Core_i7_3610QM Processor 2.3GHz with
Turbo Boost Technology up to 3.30GHz
8 GB SDRAM RAM
1024GB 5400rpm Hard Drive
17.3 Inch diagonal HD+ BrightView LED-backlit (1600 x 900), Intel HD Graphics 4000
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Graphics Card Ram Size 1696 MB
Wireless Type 802.11bgn
Number of USB 2.0 Ports 1
Number of USB 3.0 Ports 3
Average Battery Life (in hours) 9.5 hours
Processor Brand Intel
Processor Count 4
Computer Memory Type SODIMM
Hard Drive Interface Serial ATA
Hard Drive Rotational Speed 5400 RPM
Optical Drive Type Super Multi DVD burner
Batteries: 1 Lithium ion batteries required. (included)

Beats Audio is exclusive to HP notebooks computers and is provided through integrated quad speakers. The rear pair of speakers can tilt forward to kick the sound right at you for the ultimate listening experience. This HP notebook also has a HP TripleBass Reflex Subwoofer for added bass. Beats Audio is unlike other laptop speakers because it can eliminate electronic background noise, go from whisper quiet to blasting loud without flattening out the sound, add powerful amplifiers for full-bodied sound and a bass boost button to pump up volume even more.

My laptop is no longer made, but as long as you get a laptop with specs as good or better than mine you should be fine. Other than that there are basic system settings, RS game settings, and operating procedures that need to be tweaked for optimal gameplay.

Even if your PC (desktop or laptop) exceeds specs you may still have gameplay issues. If so, consider my setup to help solve your issues:

Basic system settings:

My machine is dedicated for RS, nothing else, so I've shut off all auto updates. I've disabled my Anti-Virus program. The idea is to shutoff all programs that would try to run in the background and hog system resources that will cause video hiccups when you're trying to play RS. Even something like a desktop wallpaper that is setup to change pictures at intervals will cause the occasional video hiccup in RS. Shut it all off. FYI, Steam had warned in the past that some Anti-Virus programs can prevent Steam patches from updating properly on your PC, so to disable your Anti-virus when new patches come out (problem is you never know when patches are pushed to your machine until it happens; if you don't want to disable your AV program, maybe an exception can be added to your Anti-Virus program to allow Steam to do it's thing).

RS Game Settings:

Since my HD 4000 Integrated card barely meets specs, these settings make the game video work great (items bolded are most important):

From Tools menu--Visual Settings:

Display Lag Correction: 100
Subtitles: Off
Mirror Video: Off
Color Blind Mode: Off
Windowed Mode: Windowed
Resolutions: 1600x900
Website Launcher: On
Venue Mode: Off

Operating Procedures:

My system is always on. When I'm not playing RS, it's in sleep mode. While it's sleeping, various patches & updates are pushed from Steam, Uplay, RS, etc. To ensure all of these updates install properly, when I wake my laptop from sleep, I always restart it before playing RS--this seems to allow everything to install and boot up nice.

There you have it, my secrets to RS14 playing success on a min spec laptop. 150 hours of fantastic RS14 gameplay experience. :cool:

Sorry, that link seems to cover the majority of my laptop spec, but I must have a slight variation as, in addition to the Intel graphics, I also have an Nvidia Geforce (optimus) , which isn't mentioned in that link. Here's some extra info from Windows System Info:

I am sorry, but I'm not very techy, so I was hoping someone more knowledgeable could tell me if its worth purchasing this gamefor this laptop. I will be playing using the laptop screen itself and a set of earphones, so no planned connection to TV via HDMI or anything fancy like that. I am quite happy to run it without all the graphical bells and whistles if this means I can play the thing, but ideally, I would want to avoid any lag, etc. I just don't want to spend out the cash if there is no chance of a decent gaming experience. :)

Note: I have installed RS1 from Steam and that loads fine and the menus seems quick and the sound is okay. However, I do not have a USB tone cable so cannot really demo the game proper. You would think the demo would have some sort of keyboard control or at least a demo level that you can't play, but shows everything the game has to offer. Weird!

As a frame of reference, I have played the Batman Arkham City Demo (default settings) and Grid 2 (medium graphics) and both played smoothly, except for the odd little pause, barely noticeable. This includes during fights and when other cars were on screen and racing at full speed. My laptop fan was getting a workout, but the games were playable. Does this bode well for RS2014?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Zuluwan, that laptop is not going to cut it. It will not play the game ... very well ... if at all.

Hey Zuluwan, Steam has a demo version of the game, try it out, dont give up yet!

I have a bigger laptop with all bells and whistles which runs the game great, but I tried running Rocksmith 2014 on my new windows 8.1 tablet: (I have the Dell Venue 8 Pro, but the MIix 2, W4, and others have similar specs)
Atom Z3740 1.33 ghz quad core
2gb ram
Intel HD Graphics (Doesnt even have a number) With 32MB dedicated ram.

Installed Steam and Rocksmith to the SD Card, as I only have 32GB internal memory, and brought all the display settings to minimum.
I plugged the Real Tone cable to the tablet through an OTG cable (Some tablets do not have a full size USB port, so its kind of an adapter)
I was not getting any sound, until I changed the sound settings under Sound Engine (I think) and turned it off. Then the sound was just fine.
If you have a tablet, do not count on the touchscreen, use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

When I first tried playing the lag was maybe a 100ms, I could hear it easily. After turning the visuals down, the game played GREAT, with no lag!!
I also turned the resolution to its minimum (640x480). Im sure many would groan at this, but if there is a game where visuals really doesn't matter, this is the game. I was able to play songs and the little arcade games without a hitch. I have yet to try increasing the resolution little by little to see if it will still run ok.

In short, now I have my little guitar tutor with me wherever i go!!

Zuluwan, your Pentium should be way faster than this... Look at http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html, your processor is placed at 217 while mine is at 337, and you gave an nvidia graphics card with 1gb ram. I only have 32mb!

Edit: Kudos to the game devs to make a game that can run on such a slow platform!

HI ALL. SEEMS WE HAVE ALLOT MORE QUESTIONS THEN ANSWERS. DIDN'T FIND MY ISSUE BROUGHT UP BY ANYONE ELSE SO HERE IT GOES. I BOUGHT RS 2014 LAST WEEK FROM STEAM. JUST STARTED USING IT BECAUSE I HAD TO WAIT TO GET THE REAL TONE CABLE. I CAN PLAY A SONG OR TWO WITH NO PROBLEMS, BUT THEN RS FREEZES. A COUPLE OF TIMES I GOT A ERROR MESSAGE FROM WINDOWS SAYING RS HAS STOPPED WORKING...WINDOWS WILL CLOSE IT AND CHECK FOR A SOLUTION. I THOUGHT, HMM, WELL OK. WHAT'S GOING ON, WINDOWS?

WANNA KNOW WHAT SOLUTION WINDOWS FOUND?

ZIP...NADA,,,AND NOTHING.... PLUS JACK; IN ADDITION.

SO I'M GUESSING IT'S MY PC SETTINGS. DIDN'T REALIZE THAT THERE ARE SO MANY CONFIGURATION SETTINGS FOR RS!!! HAD TO BREAK FOR DINNER HALF WAY THROUGH. FROM USB 2.0 POWER, TO GRAPHICS, SOUND, LATENCY, TO SHUTTING DOWN ALL MY OTHER SOUNDS, AND BACKGROUND PROGRAMS.....PHEW!!! JUST READ THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ROCKSMITH ON THE SUPPORT PAGE AND FOUND MY USB 2.0 PORT AND JACKED MY REAL TONE CABLE INTO IT. NEXT I'LL HAVE TO TRY THAT EXE PROGRAM THAT CHECKS ALL MY STEAM/RS INSTALL FILES ARE THERE. I'M NOT DELVING INTO THAT ADVANCED MODE CONFIGURATION. I DON'T NEED A LESSON IN CODE PROGRAMMING. I JUST WANT TO PLAY MY GUITAR WITH THE BAND AND RELIVE SOME OF MY STAGE PERFORMANCE DAYS AND MAYBE LEARN A FEW NEW LICKS. THAT'S IT.

I JUST HOPE AFTER I CHANGE ALL THESE SETTING, I'LL STILL BE ABLE TO PLAY HALO! ANY OF THE TECK-IES GOT AN ANSWER FOR THAT? JUST KIDDING.

IT'D BE NICE IF MR. BLACK WIDOW WOULD COME BACK ON THIS FORUM WITH SOME ANSWERS. WHERE YOU AT, BRO?

IT'S SATURDAY SO I CAN'T REACH UBISOFT TECH SUPPORT SO, FIGURED I'D RANT ON HERE FOR LITTLE WHILE...LOL! THANKS FOR READING AND LET ME KNOW IF ANY OF YOU ARE HAVING SIMILAR ROCK BLOCKS!

PLAYING A GLEN BURTON FRG19, PASSIVE ELECTRONICS BUT STILL WORKS OK. ESP KH2 (...IN MY DREAMS)

Hi, and welcome to the forums! Black Widow (who's a Ms rather than a Mr.) is a forum moderator rather than tech support. If you need tech support, you should e-mail tech support.

Given the holiday weekend here in the US, others may or may not be available to help you troubleshoot, but hang in there.

[Audio]
EnableMicrophone=0
ExclusiveMode=1
LatencyBuffer=16
ForceDefaultPlaybackDevice=
ForceWDM=0
ForceDirectXSink=0
Win32UltraLowLatencyMode=1
DumpAudioLog=0
MaxOutputBufferSize=0
[Renderer.Win32]
ShowGamepadUI=0
ScreenWidth=1280
ScreenHeight=720
Fullscreen=2
VisualQuality=1
RenderingWidth=0
RenderingHeight=0
EnablePostEffects=1
EnableShadows=1
EnableHighResScope=1
EnableDepthOfField=1
EnablePerPixelLighting=1
MsaaSamples=4
DisableBrowser=0
[Net]
UseProxy=1

Can anyone help me understand how to fix this problem? I do have an XBOX 260 and a PS3, but I don't have the disc for the game and don't want to have to buy it again (I'm willing to set it up on those however, if I don't have to pay for the game again and it'll come out better). Thanks!!!

Try MsaaSamples=0

It work fine for me.

Because you can't play it on 10.6.8 It's only for Lion and higher

Has anyone actually managed to play RS2014 on a machine stuck in the middle ages and not on OSX 10.7 or higher? I ask because I am a dinosaur and my MBP is still on 10.6.8, and since it works fine otherwise I'd rather not fiddle with having to upgrade the OS if I can avoid it; also because at 10.7 you lose Rosetta and the ability to run older programs.

FWIW, I installed Steam, downloaded RS2014, and while it starts up, the funny thing is that in the game itself, it does not recognise the keyboard at all anymore. So while I can point and click at various selections, I got stymied when I had to create a new profile, and couldn't input anything via keyboard to name my new profile! and trying to workaround it by cutting/pasting from another window (where keyboard commands were still recognised) didn't work since Cmd-V wasn't recognised... :o

Oh well, worst case scenario it's time to drag my MBP kicking and screaming into 2014 and install a newer OSX...

Has anyone tried this game with a pentium D (early generation dual core). I have a computer that has a 3.2ghz pentium D processor and I'm planning to upgrade it to Windows 7 and I pretty sure the rest of the specs meet the requirements but I'm not sure about the processor because of it being an older generation even though its a pretty high speed.

For the record the pc is a dell gx 620 with upgraded 1G ram graphics card

I tested the rs demo yesterday on my pc. It worked fine on best quality and highest resolution although my cpu is lower than minimum required (AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+, 2.2 GHz). RAM (4GB) and graphics (radeon HD6670) are good. Had only a small lag.

Can I expect rs2014 to work without problems as well? Or are the requirements higher than for rs1 (demo)?

Hello,

I purchased R/S 2014 PC for my kid and have a couple of questions.

Her computer is a Dell GX520 with a Pentium-D processor, 4 GB ram, Win7 Pro and onboard graphics.

It runs, but the video doesn't work. Therefore, I'm interested in finding out what people think of these PCI video cards:

JATON Video-339PCI-HLX Radeon HD 5450 512MB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card for $70

vs.

JATON VIDEO-498PCI-TWIN GeForce 9400 GT 1GB 128-Bit DDR2 PCI Low Profile Ready Video Card for $83

Any input is much appreciated.

I always like Nvidia better and 1gb is better than 512mb.

Here is a comparison.

http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-5450-vs-GeForce-GT-9400

That kinda makes the Radeon look better. But that is just a 512mb 9400.

Also looks like some cheaper prices.

Really either one will be slightly better than the built in GPU .... maybe.

I was gonna make some other suggestions ... but really limited with PCI only slots.

$70 is a lot of money for really low powered and outdated GPU. I'd say almost better spent towards a more modern system.

Maybe try to find either of those cards used on ebay. I would bet for $10 or less ... well looks like $15.

Thanks for the info.

I think you're looking at pci-e cards for the price range you stated.

I agree that the PCI bus is going to be a limiting factor, but I'm hoping that the driver support for either the Radeon or Nvidia will allow the game to at least run correctly.

Thank you again for your input.

Probably right. Been so long since I've looked at PCI only, my searching was probably not concise enough.

I have a HP laptop and I'm not sure whether Rocksmith will run on it.
system specs: Windows 8.1
Processor: AMD A8-6410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics 2.00 Ghz
Ram: 8 GB
64 bit operating system, x64 based processor

Will this be ok to run the game?

Thank you
Sam

Not sure. Might have to run it on low graphics settings.

Still might not be able to do the lessons and have a little stutter.

Just have to try and see.
