View Full Version : A minor complaint and some questions...

So let me begin by saying that when I learned ACIV would be coming out a year after ACIII...I groaned. Especially after a disappointing end to Desmond's story. I loved the advancements they made to the parkour by making it look more realistic, I enjoyed how the camera was closer to Connor than it ever was for Ezio (if I recall correctly..it just seemed like it was...), but I did feel the verticality really suffered...it was historically accurate but it was unfortunate. I will honestly say though that the new 13 minutes of gameplay got me interested in the game again... I stopped caring and even stopped looking things up regarding it because I thought it would just be lame. So I have a favor to ask if it's not too much work but could someone fill me in on any important things I've missed?

Like, do we know what the cities look like and do they look like they'll be as sparse as ACIII (low buildings, wide streets) or will they be more akin to the cities from the other AC games like ACI/ACII/ACB/ACR?

I heard a rumor that the modern story will be made OPTIONAL in this game... any truth to that or no?

And lastly... a minor complain that's REALLY not an important thing but seems odd to me... is anyone else bugged that Edward's hood does not have the iconic beak? I know it adds nothing related to the game but Altair had it, Ezio had it on all of his outfits, Connor had it... I believe Desmond didn't and it bugged me then as well. It's just odd to me to have this iconic hood that always has "the beak" but with different designs incorporated into it...

Also...anyone know if the brown leather armor we've seen on Edward is removable/can be changed? I want to have a cleaner suit with more of the iconic white but almost the entire torso is brown which I don't like... I'd at least like to change it to...like metal armor although I don't know of any pirate who ever had metal armor...maybe they did.

This ties into the complaint as it stems from a sense that this game has embraced the pirate side and abandoned the assassin side somewhat. None of the pre-order outfits nor the Uplay rewards, have a cool assassin outfit..it's all pirate outfits. Now.. I think it makes sense to have a bunch of different pirate outfits for a game that heavily involves pirates but... no Connor outfit? Ezio outfit? Altair? I know some dislike the use of the white robes and have disliked it for awhile since it doesn't make sense but I'm a fan of taking Altair's classic robes and updating them and going "what would Altair's white robes look like during the Renaissance? During the Revolutionary War in America? etc.

It seems like Edward's outfit is the only Assassin outfit in the game... oh well.

The modern story in optional in the sense that you will no longer be yanked out of the animus at predetermined times and forced into modern missions. Now you can leave the animus at you whim, or don't leave if you don't wanna, and explore the Abstergo building and discover secret files, archives etc, learn more about the lore. Or you can skip those altogather and remain in the Animus. Atleast that's how I think it will be, modern day story is not optional, modern day "stuff-to-do" is optional. And I think its a sensible thing to do.

regarding the non-beaked hood, I wager its related to Edward being not fully committed to the cause. Even in the 13 min demo Ashraf said he had joined the Assassins by that point, yet not embraced the creed.

Ohhh okay, that makes sense.

I see... it'd be cool to have a beaked-hooded outfit as an unlockable of some sort.

False, there is many assassin that is a part of the creed that don't have a beaked hood.

http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Shao_Jun
http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Desmond_Miles (most of the modern assassins don't have it)
http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Aveline_de_Grandpré (she has a hat with beak-shaped tip)
http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Edward_Kenway

The beaked hood is a symbol, like the hidden blade, the red shash(bad English) & the assassin insignia.

I wouldn't say Edward not having a hood is not because hes not commited to the cause at all.

Its because he never started out as an Assassin.

Altair - Had Assassin robes
Ezio - Inherited Assassin robes from his father, got new robes made for him, kept the beak
Connor - Inherited the Assassin Robes
Edward - Starts of as a pirate wearing his pirate gear, becomes an Assassin.

What we see are Edwards normal sailing clothes thats why it has no beak.

@Hans684 Yeah and that Sentinel/Vali guy in ACR didn't have a beak either.

@BoBwUzHeRe1138 I heard that you can change armor but I dunno if you can remove them entirely.

p.s. Didn't Darby say there'll still be some mandatory present day stuff that's part of the main story? Basically it is like all the other games except packed with more optional stuff right?

The beak is an Assassin symbol, and the Hood is also an Assassin symbol.

Aveline has a beak, Achilles has a beak. Shao Jun has a hood, Edward has a hood, Desmond has a hood. Those five were all significant (master) Assassins.

The red sash isn't actually an required Assassin symbol either. The Ottoman Assassins used an orange sash rather than a red sash.

But pretty much it's if you're a main Assassin you either have a beak or a hood.

Yes, there are going to be some small modern day parts that you can't skip. Then it is up to you how much time you spend in the modern part. :)

It is a symbol..th esymbol of a master assassin...go back and play brotherhood and revelations..your recruits do not get a full beak until they are master assassin level

...yes they do. They have a beak right away on their hoods. When they reach Assassin/Master Assassin level they receive Ezio's/Yusuf's robes.

Yeah I dont see modern day ever being "optional" I see exploration in the modern day to search for easter eggs as being optional, but Without a doubt we will be pulled at the end of every sequence and IMO that cliff hanger is what makes AC so addicting.
But back to easter eggs, Ashraf said that there re strong hints in the game about where they are going next..which i am excited to be looking for

they have half of a beak...like all birds, birds do not get a full beak/a hard shell on top of their beaks until they are matured

Yea, and Achilles had a really small beak on his hat.

The beak itself is a symbol, the size of it does not matter.

You forget that He gave connor his robes...his hat wasnt his Assassin outfit -_- and it was actually pretty large as it probably went at least 6 inches past his nose...
Either way, i have been seeing images floating around, even in trailers of Edward's hood taking a beak shape...
I have complete faith that by the end of the game he will be in new robes.

This one doesn't seem to know that.

Not really, I thought that's from the ingame 'brotherhood menu'

Thats how it worked under the time Ezio was Mentor of the order. The assassin order is not going to have the same recruit clothing roles forever. Also the outfit he has now is pirate assassin outfit not sailing outfit.

The recruit beaks are the same size as Ezio's. I stood next to them for comparison.

The length of the robes usually designate your rank. The longer and more clunky it is the higher the rank. :p
