View Full Version : Predict AC:BF's ratings

ACfan443

Now that we've seen previews, trailers and the game itself in action, predict the ratings it will garner come release (general/average rating across all major review sites).
(The predictions won't be totally valid of course since we haven't actually played the whole game, but we can refer back to them once we have actually played the game to see whether our expectations were met, not met or exceeded).

I'm sort of conflicted here, I think it will either be a sub par AC game and receive a score no higher than AC3, so 6/7 out of 10 (considering what it's got to compete with this year, and based on what I've seen), or it will surpise everyone and turn out to be a fantastic game, and receive a 9+/10. Your thoughts?

silvermercy

8.9 to 9.1.
Now that's based on the trailers only and the favorable response so far. Nothing else obviously as we don't know the final product.

ArabianFrost

8/10

I'd expect the reviewers will be impressed by how polished it is, how seamless the game is, how big the world is.

The main downpoints of the game would probably be the lack of innovation and improvement done to the core mechanics of the game (stealth, combat and navigation) and how shallow the non-linearity is.

I think it's difficult to predict ratings because on some websites for example a 7/10 is already a really bad game while on others a 7/10 is great.
IMO AngryJoes ratings are the best I've seen so far because the scores are fair.( example: a 5/10 is not 'useless ****' but 'average' and an 8/10 is 'awesome' and not 'quite good'.)
I predict the scores will go from 7/10 - 9/10.

Indeed. A person's 7 is another's 9 or 10.
So I think an average metascore would give a more accurate picture.

Anyways, we should save this thread and check back after release date. lol See who comes closest! :p

All the major sites will give it a 9/10 regardless of its flaws because Ubisoft is paying them round the year for good press. Independent reviewers will be more honest and get largely ignored. Business as usual.

I would trust Gamespot and thevideogamer.com for my reviews.

Edit:
Add to that list, Polygon, the Verge, PC gamer, CVG and Rock, Paper Shotgun.

Everyone will give it no less than an 8 no matter how much they criticise it in the review because it's a high profile triple A game. If ACR can get 8s and 9s all around there's not much hope for integrity left.

I predict an 8.5 or less officially, although the fans will hate it for being AC3.5 and will call Edward a poor man's Ezio. Ubisoft will of course ignore us and keep churning out ACs, each as repetitive/ stale as the last.

well... if we are talking about some of your bigger companies, like IGN, Game Informer, Meta Critic, Gamespot, 1 UP, etc... I'm pretty sure it's safe to say the game won't get less than an 7 or 8 ubisoft hasn't completely made a Sh*tty game in awhile. They always keep quality for the most part.

for some odd reason I feel this one is going to be really good. I don't know why. 3 is still my favorite though.

After a while, I began to realize that like with books and movies and music, reviews and scores are kind of pointless. You don't know how you'll feel about it until you experience it yourself. If you don't like the way it looks, you can choose not to experience it.

 We clearly have different definitions of 'playing a game' if you were done with AC-R in only 8 hours .

I'm all for casual playing - But i'm still going to play what's actually IN the game before i jack it in.

Probably best to read books just for the story & play games just for the Gameplay.

Suppose - Now reviewers have Next gen graphics to drool over , Current gen might actually be rated based mainly on content & quality a little more often.
But i expect Next gen blindness may still occur in the initial games line up for many reviewers .

I think a solid 9. It definitely has potential. Some reviews I see for AC games say that they abandon stealth, one of the core mechanics which is why I think that the reviews have slowly declined on average over the years. This one has potential to get a 9 as they say they are going back to roots. Whether that happens remains to be seen.

Shahkulu101

It'll get 8.5 on IGN as it has the past few years and it'll get a 9+ on GameInformer as it has the past few years.
I feel AC2 was the only one reviewed fairly after a dissapointing first game( according to the public and media, I love it) nobody really expected to be so great.
Now that the series is established as good quality and is generally just a massive franchise, reviewers on the big sites are not honest. Just look at the publics metacritic scores on AC3 compared to professional scores on IGN and GameInformer.

A fair point, yes. But that has nothing to do with my previous post. I made a point that AC2 was reviewed fairly because it was much better than expected and that from there on the establishment of AC as a big franchise meant reviewers were not being fair in scoring it sequels.

Well, Assassin's Creed 3 is by no means a bad game in and on its own. In fact, it's actually quite a really good game. Can't say it deserves almost perfect score (although I have my own issues with the scoring systems in general, not going to take it into account) as it's got in a number of reviews, but it is a very solid (yet flawed) title. Which a lot of fans were disappointed with, hence the difference between critic and user scores.

Well I feel that reviewers should take into account the promises made by the developers and If that was the case AC3's score would be much worse. I know they are meant to view it as a standalone game but I don't think anyone would object to 'Didn't live up to expectations' if it were cited as a disadvantage.
