View Full Version : Compass in the Yaks

This is probably a newbie question, but I'm gonna ask it anyway:
In the cockpits of the Yaks, it seems the compass is almost completely obstructed by the gunsight. So my question is:
How do I get to see the compass?
And if this is impossible, will this problem be fixed in the patch?

I love these planes, but it's impossible to fly anywhere without a compass. Help me. Please... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Old problem, talked to death. No fix, no cure, except use the speedbar.

Well , the whole problem lays in the manner Oleg choosed to present pilot position while in the plane. I believe he choosed to give more details on the gunsight than others details. You have to do a compromise though. In a furball there's little time to check instruments , is about instinct. I believe those are the reasons. Neverthless , is far from being perfect , but I doubt a patch will fix this.

Thanks for the speedy replies guys.
I realize the compass isn't very important in battle, but it sure makes it easier to get there. I can't imagine how I'm supposed to fly somewhere if I can't even tell where North is.
I'll hold on to hope that it'll be fixed in the patch, as small as it may be.

Are you turning off speedbar? Vector is your heading.

Well yeah, I am, actually. I like to pretend I'm a good pilot, even though I'm not /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
Guess I'll just have to turn it on for these flights in the Yaks.

You can still pretend your a good pilot. The speedbar is just a digital reading of your compass. It won't tell you where to go by itself../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

You must choose, high FOV and good forward visibility and no compass, or the contrary /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif In the 190, the compass view is really good /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

That's historical. British enginneers were specialized in putting important instruments on very uncomfortable places!

Yeah, but it's more immersive if I look at the actual instrument and not at a digital readout floating at the bottom of my screen. What is that anyway, another of these crazy German WWII experiments? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

And to be honest, I'm quite partial to the Hurricane, and I don't really mind the position of the compass. At least I can see it in that plane /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I understand. I complained when I was flying the Yak too. I even showed a picture of a real Yak3 that you could plainly see the compass. It didn't do much good though.

Well, as they say in Russian - "hope is the last to die".
I'll keep hoping for an option that'll allow me to see the damn compass. I mean, how hard can it be to move the non-gunsight view (SHIFT+F1) a bit so you can see the instruments clearly?
Well, here's to hoping...
And thanks for all your help guys! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
