I've been trying to figure out how to improve on my situation awareness in the servers with no externals...I've heard about Track IR but still have no idea exactly how it works. I would appreciate any help.......

Thanks...

No.

Get a baseball cap somewhere.

I found a set of plastic hooks in the hardware section of Walmart which have wide round bases with self-stick material. I took one of the hooks and stuck it to the bill of the baseball cap. Then I placed a reflective square on the hook, facing towards the TrackIR device.

That's all it takes. It works fine.

All I have to do now is get used to TrackIR. It does take some getting used to, as now I have to control my head movements as well as fly the plane.

I'm making progress, and the the TrackIR is a big improvement, as it allows small movements rather than the big hat-switch movements.

They are giving away a baseball cap with built in marker with each order. If you prefer, you can get a discount from a post on the NetWings.org FB forum.

Nope , just a funky dot .
Actually there is a infrared device that mounts on top of your monitor . It's very small (and cool looking) . This device tracks infrared reflections from that dot that I mentioned . You can stick the dot to your forehead , mount it on a cap , mount it on a headset mic , or mount it on a pair of sunglasses (what I did) . When move your head , the dot moves , TIR detects the movement and applies it to your mouse .
It's an awesome immersive tool and I would highly recommend it !!!!

Freelook (http://freelook.org/) makes a free downloadable program which emulates TrackIR type of head tracking. If you already have a webcam it might be worth looking into. Also check out MouseVision (http://www.mousevision.com/index.html). They have a free 30 day unregistered version of head tracking software as well as software you can purchase.

Marking out for TrackIR! Got it, use it, love it.

Mine is the version 1, but I've had absolutely NO issues with it once I made my own reflective-ball-track-thingy.
