I am sooooooooo happy and grateful that there will be a desert map coming with the patch. I think there was only one game before (fighter squadron???) where you could fly over Africa, for me it will be the first time :-)
Can't wait to play it on-line...and hopefully lowengrin will make it flyable as a campgain offline...

F22-ADF & TAW allows you to fly over the pyramids and most of the middle-east. Was out in 1998, but is still up there with the best.

Amazing how Oleg`s managing bit by bit to please everyone who has a particular favourite theatre in WWII they want to fly in. I gotta admit that a month ago I didn`t expect to see a Pacific Sim come along with all the gubbings, with even Pacific Spitfires (Seafires http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif).

Much less did I think we`d have Desert maps in FB and I reckon Low`s DCG will probably work that into a Campaign too. I suspect we may even see Spanish Civil War scenarios soon...

The way it`s going there just won`t be time to fly all these Theatres! Nice, Oleg.

Does anyone know for sure wether this is just a fictional map or is it a corectly modeled desert map that actually exists some where? Just want to settle this now so people wont jump to assumptions that are false and of course because I don't know myself.

Thanks.

Where did you get the information that we will definately get the desert map with this patch? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

LOL the Cheering won't last long. The "desert" is only the south edge of a mostly water map and the whole thing is only ~30 miles across.

I think Maybe a real desert map will come with another addon CD. Maybe they were just experimenting with textures on this little test map.

On another thread, posters have been picking non-functional details they appreciate with FB. Here's an interesting possibility.

A serious problem for fighters and bombers in North Africa was sand in the air; it destroyed engines and meant blind takeoffs for the planes at the back.

What are the odds that 1C might offer it as a "condition" in FMB? Aircraft already kick up a dust cloud when taking off or accelerating around the field. Why would this be any more challenging than, say, a thunderstorm?

I would like to Giraffes, Tigers, Elephants and hippo's. They would be good jabo practice.

Meanie http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif I'd do it though lol.

It would be fun to taxi up to those animals and see if they did anything. Isn't there someone on these forums who wants ducks in FB as well? That'd be fun...

You do mean lions? Tigers live in Asia. Besides, they are forest animals. There's no elephants north of Sahara either. But having inquisitive hippos surrounding an aircraft ditched in a river would be great! Having crocodiles surrounding the pilot would be not so great...

Yes, with all these potential thearters one is able to simulate in IL2/FB/... it will be an unbeatable package. Although the addition of new aircraft has been 'somewhat' slow there is a not so distant threshhold where many current game elements will come together and put a plug in a lot of whiners. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif
Nice drawings SeaFire, though they may be unappriciated in a childrens book. As in short attention span.

Thanks for the heads up LEXX. Not a mention of that in the other thread. Won't be disappointed now when a complete desert area of operations is not available with the patch. Got to love that truth in advertising thingy.

Palin:"A tiger? In Africa?"

LOL willyvic with a MiG SiG you have to be an independent thinker.

Who was that, Tolstoy, who wrote How Much Land Does a Man Need? about a peasant offered as much land as he could run around in a day and he got back right at sunset and died of exhaustion and was buried in 2 meter plot of land lol.

How Much Map Does a Simmer Need?

haha see me fly until sundown around how much Map I want, with proper trim I should not get too exhausted, unless its in I~16 oh no.

total air war was cool, but it had a huge bug in it lol. For anyone who still plays it, try this.

get up around 40k feet. fly level for a bit and get up to max speed then pull up and go till you get very slow. start rolling hard to one side now. keep the roll imput and soon the plane should accelerate and eventually it will go out of control.

alt, speed (mach number) and g forces go funny.
