Oddly enough, I was JUST thinking about Abraham Lincoln in the context of AC. He's pretty much universally accepted as the greatest US president, and he was very ardent about abolishing slavery (and he eventually did) but he did not have the support of the majority of the United States. So if you boil that down to the bare bones, you have a situation where a leader enacted something he felt to be in the best interests of the people, without their consent.

That's a very Templary thing to do.

I'd love to see a Civil War-era AC story (maybe a comic book like The Fall) to explore this, and show a Templar ideology fighting for something that's undeniably the correct moral thing to do (ending slavery).

But yeah, the original post is... no.

Enough. With. America.

I think what he ment was that Abraham Lincoln's characteristics are more Templar orientated than an Assassin.

I would like to see a fictional book on the Assassins in the civil war era but not a game which is what he is reffering to.

I love games, I like the entertainment side.

What I cannot stand, are people pretending to be assassins, its so embarrassing.

I think its a case of ubi have used historical characters and wrote them into a fictional storyline of the Assassins and Templars that their imaginations are running wild... im with you i play purely for pleasure and entertainment not sitting there watching the TV and when the news comes on " Oh David Cameron is the Templar grand master and start tearing the walls down on google looking for proof ! these dudes need srious brain therapy.

Three games in 15th/16th century Europe, and ONE game in America is too much already?

Assassins do not ALWAYS have to be good guys and Templars do not have to be evil people....Rodrigo was a templar and Haytham was one too..Altair was an Assassin and Abbas was one too...

Lincoln is probably a Templar

That's kind of my point. It would be cool to see a Templar who is 100% undeniably doing the right thing. I thought we would get this with Haytham, but he turned into a d!ck sometime between 1755 and 1777 and started killing defenseless hostages for no reason... Pity he wasn't painted in a very sympathetic light in Connor's sequences.

I felt like ubi wanted the templars to look bad during Connor`s time...dunno why...i mean...Lee basically rapes a 5 year old Connor, Hickey is a racist *****, church smiles at Lee`s racial slurs and Johnson hits that same 5 year old with a musket butt.

I was WHY-ing during that entire scene....IT`S JUST A FREAKIN KID

I know... That was painful. Especially after seeing them all as decent people during Sequences 2 and 3. It was like they were completely different characters.

Well, except Hickey... He was always kind of sleazy.

Yeah, I think they felt it was too....nice. maybe they wanted us to hate these people more or something...it worked to an extent..

Actually, I thought Hickey was an extremely grateful chap...sure he was uneducated and vulgar, but..he was grateful to Haytham for giving him a place and money and promised that he`d labor day and night searching for the Temple....I liked him....honest lad

Maybe he was given a little bit more character development in Forsaken (which I still haven't read... :nonchalance:) but in the game, he never came across as anything other than a shady hired goon. At least to me, anyway. In his death speech, he even said flat-out that he didn't care about anything the Templars had planned, he was just in it for the booze and women.

Well, that gratefulness was not from the forsaken xD actually, he`s barely mentioned in the forsaken xP

it`s in one of the interactive conversations, when Haytham thanks Hickey for his work, Hickey replies with "A bed to sleep on food is thanks enough, don't you worry...i`ll find what you`re after" at least he was a grateful goon, right?? :P

I couldn't agree more with you, M.
This freaking scene must makes me angry. It was just a stupid, cheap way to make the Templars oh so evil again. I can't even watch that scene without feeling enraged.
The worst is that of all people, William Johnson is there, too. Johnson, who had a closer relation with the natives, who even learned their language and their culture and traded with them. And he's there too, knocking out a 5 years old boy. WHY?
Church is a stupid ****, so I don't mind him being there, but then there's Lee who was married to a mohawk in real life... that whole scene felt simply forced in to make the Templars look like ******bags again, and I just hate it.

At least Pitcairn wasn't there :I
And Haytham, of course.

I didn't understand why Johnson was nice to Connor at first by saying "Better do what he says", he said it in a way that made me think he didn't want Connor hurt. Only to be followed by a random musket butt to the face?!

Yeah, at least they spared 2 Templars :|

I was thinking the same thing about Lee, the guy had half native kids....what the hell, man ?? (still love him, though....that crazy bastard)

If Lincoln was a Templar then... where does that leave John Wilkes Booth?

If I remember correctly, the AC2 glyphs revealed that he was a Templar who killed Lincoln and was hunted down by assassins... then this leads to two more theories.

1. Lincoln was planning to unify the Assassins and Templars, and I guess some of the Templars didn't like that.
2. Clay was lying to us the whole time to make the Assassins look better than they really are. :(

If luck has it, AC2 will be retconned so it turns out that the Big H and Big S actually were actually assassins the whole time...

He wasn't actually labelled as a Templar; it's just that the Assassins killed him. Among the other people in that Glyph was Tomás de Torquemada, and AC2D revealed that he was not a Templar but just a Templar puppet. No 100% guarantee, but you can assume that booth is Templar-related.

All Americans are Templars anyway.
