View Full Version : Info on 1C's Upcoming Releases

The XO of my squadron, ~HH~Capt.Zeus-Cat, just shared this information with the sqadron and I thought that the community would like to know the progress of 1C's upcoming titles:

From Ian Boys on SIMHQ

Hi all,

1. Disclaimer: Ubi gave me free entry to the show and I helped represent them, so I am not an objective reviewer.

2. Clarification: The Blackpool show is in addition to the November Birmingham show, not a replacement.

3. Pacific Fighters - this was running very nicely today, although with a few glitches as one might expect from a work in progress. Carrier landings are hard, esp. in the faster planes like the F4U and F6F, easier in the Seafire and Zero (once an issue with the Zero is fixed). The decks were rolling and pitching slightly in the calm sea - they will be rougher as the weather deteriorates. The plane line up on the list shown is not a full list but already looks good, including flyable Bostons and B-25's. The sea looks fantastic, esp. on the 6800 card, with a level above the Perfect setting that at present is only attainable on the card. With wave crests etc it looks out of this world, esp. from the flyable japanese floatplane. What else?
- Parabombs are included, v nice on airbase attacks.
- It will be possible to knock out individual gun turrets etc on ships so hits by 3 or 4 bombs may not sink a ship but will leave it quite disabled.
- Torpedo physics are improved.
- There are masses of new UK,US and Japanese ships and ground objects, from 50 cal guns, landing craft, mortar teams etc. Really nicely done.
- Nations supported: USA, Japan, UK, Holland
- Release in November

4. Battle of Britain - seems to be developing very nicely in ridiculous detail. If it delivers all it promises it will be amazing. AI will be fully reworked to allow many more planes than we have now. Houses will have 3 damage levels. Germans can use all kinds of captured French, Polish and Czech equipment as well as their own. Amazing range of planes from Wellington and Beaufighter to Lysander and Avro autogyro. Cockpit detail simply staggering, esp. to a current PC's capability.
Release next year.

5. Murmansk map for FB sometime this year. Immense map but not too many objects outside Murmansk city itself. Some hurdles to overcome (winter map but with water not ice etc.) but should be out this year. Other eastern front maps under consideration - the theatre is not dead.

Sure, Holland. The Dutch were right in the way of the initial IJN steamroller.

They used all sorts of planes they captured from other countries, but rarely in first line duties (except for covert ops). They used them mainly for training, or transport or communication roles.

I just hope they'll finally combine PF and FB. Something like "if you have PF, you'll be able to play it as a single game or you'll be able to pack it upon AEP". There's more than that planes stuff like open canopies, fixed torpedo physics and maybe some more things.

I was there on the Saturday and it was really good to see Oleg showing off some of the new stuff.

Anyone else enjoy the wide variety of authentic London Buses in Battle of Britain?

Had a go on PF, didn't manage to snag the hook once in a Seafire but at least I made the deck (although had to go around immediately afterwards). Oleg seemed amused by my attempts.

The demo track showing off the Japanese seaplane and the new perfect water was stunning although you could really see the machine struggling to keep up (and it was pretty high spec).

Great to hear Oleg has at least a seven year plan ahead for the Battle of Britain line. Battles for France and Poland were mentioned as being perhaps the first which is terrific news for us **** plane early war whiners. I think he said that he intends to end up in the Pacific again with that one, so something for the Americans to look forward to as well.

Cheers, Spinner

Oh, in addition regarding the opening cockpits in Pacific Fighters - Oleg was asked whether you could "lean" out of the cockpit to peer around the cowling. Apparently no, that's not in there yet - the canopy thing is more of a bonus item on the current engine and it would require too much rework to be able to lean in that way. It's a possible though depending on time. The open canopy is catered for in the flight models.

Also apparently Oleg managed to accidentally fold the wings on one of the aircraft whilst at 10,000ft. Not sure whether that'll be in the final release http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I also asked the UBI chaps about the patch(s) - no word yet on the 2.02, not really sure what the issues were there or what it is that they're correcting. No word either on the next flyables addon, nor indeed on what the cross-compatibility situation will be.

Apparently there will be several releases of Pacific Fighters - it's UBI's request that the planeset be PF specific in the standalone but there will be a combined pack with FB:AEP I think.

Certainly the demo version at Blackpool had the entire aircraft library still present.

Pacific Fighters will not be carrying the IL2 brand name.

If I remember anything else I'll post later.

Cheers to ex-forum regular Cartrix for the interesting chat, btw.

A20, B25, B29 and Beaufighters of interest to Allied bombing types.

Re: detail in Battle of Britain, there was an interesting bit on that during the talk. It was said (I think) that the development is taking place with a view to all 1C future projects (including Battle Field Command or whatever it's called) and with an eye seven or more years into the future.

I think the graphics engines are very scalable to allow for new technology, and the models cross-compatible with the new projects. Certainly at the top end the detail looks amazing.

Interestingly enough I overheard someone saying FS2006 will be 64-bit compatible off the bat. Wouldn't be surprised if Battle of Britain is also.

Stop with this compatibility issue!
There is no official word, but there have been a few - positive - unofficial ones in the past. Wait and see.

I am completely confident though, that in a way or another, we'll be given the chance to "mix and match" the two maps & planes' sets.

A!

The PF demo at Blackpool had the entire lot in it. Whether it stays there or not is another matter, word from the UBI folks there was a probable no for the Vanilla PF product as it needs it's own "identity".

However it was mentioned there was scope for "several versions" containing differing material which may or may not include all of FB:AEP. I don't think the online compatibility thing has been decided yet either.

I want the Beaufighter on the Eastern/Western front!

That question wasn't asked during the Saturday talk to my knowledge. He did indicate however there was a definite plan to follow an IL2 like pattern of theatre expansion with the Battle of Britain line, and that plans were afoot for at least the next seven years worth of simulation development.

He said he hoped Battle of Britain would evolve into expansions like the Battle of France and Poland, right the way up to the Pacific again.

I'd hope this would include the Eastern front!

Hi, I meant that the entire FB:AEP plane and map set appeared to still be in the QMB for that build of PF. I had a quick dogfight with one of my squadmates in 109Gs.

As indicated, I don't think this is going to last, although there may be some combined version on offer at a future date. Then again, nothing appears to be set in stone as yet so who knows? It's down to the publishers.
