Why exactly are two of the abilities in AC3 (single player) "Covert Escort" and "Bodyguard"? They're the exact same thing, except with Escort your recruits will fight with bayonets. Being surrounded by fake redcoats doesn't seem to add any sort of stealth benefit. I've tried using it for that. Nothing. What's the difference?

One creates a blending group when none exists and the other has them fight with you ?? That`s how it is for me at least....am I doing something wrong ?

There are certain places you cannot go into because there are guards posted at the entrance, you can get the covert escort to walk you past without a fight, or you can just kill all the guards and walk in. Covert is because the tenants of AC are Hide in plain sight and do not draw un-due attention to yourself or the brotherhood. Achilles says don't go shouting conspiracy from the roof tops to all that walk by, ect.

So they added in an ability that's only useful at very specific places where you could just as easily handle it with violence? That's...Limited. It could at least serve some use infiltrating Templar forts or something.

I tried it once in a fort and it worked....did you try it and failed ?? if so, which fort was it ?

Am I being intentionally ignored here ??

I tried using the covert escort on a fort once. I think it's the one that's close to the burned area of New York. I tried to go through the main gate which was heavily guarded, but my recruits couldn't get closer than 20 yards before the guards started detecting them. I tried it several times and the same thing happened every time. It's a fun ability concept, but in the actual game it fails more often than not.

Instead of trying to get into the Fort using them, try getting into the Fort without them but once you are in, assuming you have not been detected or you have lost the heat, call covert once you are in to get close to the Captain. The outer guards may be a little more temperamental than the inner guards. (it has occurred to me to try it on Forts, but I haven't yet, I'm pretty minimalistic when it comes to using recruits)
Edit: another thing may be about how experienced your recruits are, maybe if they are full Assassin rank they may not be detected as easily as when they are novice (?)
