Things were looking a bit one-sided online last night with Allies out-numbering Axis 2 to 1. So I switched sides even though I can't fly any of the German planes very well at all. I usually fly the LaGG on the allies side.

I decided to pick one of the planes I'd never flown before and picked the D9. A funny looking thing it is too.

But blimey, is this plane nimble or what! It rolls on it's axis like lightning, it dives and climbs effortlessly - surely it isn't as good as this in real life?

It also seems to hold twice as much ammo as the the LaGG and I just put it through the "How difficult is it to shoot down a He111" test... forget aiming at the engines, I just sawed the tail off one with plenty of ammo to spare!

This plane is amazing... I got two online kills on my first flight.

Looking forward to doing it some more!

Hello there and welcome to the world of the Wurger! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
The D-9 was the best performing Fw 190 and FB portrays it very well. I dare to say that apart from the DM the D-9 is probably the most accuratelly modelled aircraft in FB. From my climb ad speed tests the D-9 is almost spot on to the real thing. The rollrate is too fast at the higher speeds, but then again most planes in FB roll too fast.
Do not forget to give the Ta 152H a try when it comes!

When it comes to aircombat, I'd rather be lucky than good any day!

Anything anyone can tell me about this plane I'd be interested to read.

I really like the cockpit design. Being able to see your artificial horizon and the quantity of ammo remaining whist up close to the gunsight is a joy.

It took me a while to work out the Shift+F1 thing... what's the thinking behind this?

Also, most D9s I come up against online like to fly at high altitude... I guess this is a defensive tactic because it is difficult for most other a/c to follow them up there... ?

When possible, take the 1944 version instead of the 1945 version...it's faster http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

The D9 doesn't turn well at low speed, the higher you fly the more safety margin you have. It's optimal tactics are to fly higher than everyone else and then zoom down, take a shot and then zoom back up to safety again...not a good idea to get in a turn fight while flying it (though it sure is fun http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ).

The shift+F1 is the toggle between the pilot's normal fov and him moving his head to better see through it...the gunsight is offset in real life and pilots had to move a litle to see through it.

I agree with Robban that it's probably the best modelled plane in the game...it's complex but powerful, dangerous to new pilots but like a scalpel to pro's, and requires a lot of experience to fly to the maximum limits. It's worth investing the time in, my satisfaction with the plane is tremendous because of the modelling. You have to work hard with the plane but it's very rewarding.

I've been likin the dora too - very good energy characteristics and the best turner of the late 190s, maybe all of them..

I shot down 5 IL/2s with the D-9 on my last campaign mission http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I only saw three go down so I guess I got the oil cooler on the other two.

The Dora is indeed a top-notch fighter. Once you get her up to speed it's like nothing else out there can catch you. And I'm finding that boost is almost never needed.

I still like the sledgehammer brutality of the A-series though, especially the A-9.

I agree,

One of the best planes in the game if flown right.

Only thing i have not gotton use to is its roll rate and the gunner patform. But man can she BnZ. I can see why the Pony pilots feard the FW lol.

Yeah the Dora is quite the Beast. It was the only Axis plane that could keep up with the Mustang at higher altitudes. A truly deadly weapon in the hands of a capable pilot.

Real 190 pilots fly the A model. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
