View Full Version : Far Cry 3 - Problem, game not launching, says game is running. Help me please.

So I decided to buy Far cry 3 yesterday, I downloaded the game and then activated it on Uplay.

All is fine with these processes but the problem occured when I went to play the game. I clicked play and it would say the game is running. Nothing would appear, no processes would show in task manager. I tried running it in offline mode, I pressed play but then it just said "thank you for playing far cry 3 - 0 minutes".

I have tried launching the game from the .exe and running in different compataibility modes, win 7, vista etc. BTW I'm running Windows 8.

Computer specs : i7-3630QM @ 2.40GHZ, 6 GB Ram and NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M Graphics 2GB GDDR5

Big thanks to anyone who can give me some sort of idea on how to solve this problem.

Who did you buy it from?

Just curious because I bought mine through Steam, and it actually doesn't appear on my games list on uPlay unless I actually run it from Steam.

Do you have the latest version of DirectX? If not, just Google dxwebsetup.exe and download from Microsoft.

I tried doing it and it didn't help unfortunately.

I don't use steam just have it running directly from uPlay.

Thanks for the help though!

Is the any other software running in the background that could interfere with the game?

Here's an interesting read:

https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/524858/pc-games/far-cry-3-will-not-launch-no-splash-screen-no-error-beta-310-64-drivers/2/

Just for kicks, download the 306.97 drivers, and when you go to install them, click "Custom" and make sure you check the "Clean Installation" checkbox.

EDIT: Direct link for that driver

Okay so now I have the old video driver installed I have a new problem.

Far cry 3 starts I see the launch screen. (splash screen?) and then a black box appears and then freezes.

Sounds like a driver issues somewhere then. if you have managed to launch it by installing different ones..

Silly question - I noticed your graphics card is a 630m?

M as in mobile /laptop?

Laptops are not supported for this game, so that may well be a major factor [laptop versions of cards, have different specs to the desktops and performance /driver issues can sometimes stop games from working]

I would suggest contacting support - and see what other steps they suggest - however it maybe a case of seeing if others have found settings /drivers which work.

Well, at least progress is made.

Try this post and follow the steps provided: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/739489-PC-Win7-8-vista-Solutions-gt-Far-Cry3-Has-Stopped-Responding

Hopefully one of these will finally solve the issue.

The underlying issue maybe the fact it's a laptop - the drivers can cause issues compared to desktops - so I would suggest working with support closely.

I have been trying all of them steps over the last 3 or so hours.

About my graphics card for the post above yours. I've seen on youtube lots of people playing with this card, no problems.

At the moment all I can do is try different nvidia drivers, hope something changes.

Oh about the one step where you make the file in your documents/farcry3 . That changed the launch, it doesnt make a black box it just freezes before that.. Something different, but not any helpful.

Cheers,

,

Like I said, Laptops are not supported by the game, so it maybe a case of trial and error with drivers - since they may not all work as expected.

this is the official stance, so you should consider contacting support.

Same exact problem here. But I'm not using a laptop, I'm running a Radeon 7970.

Make sure you do a clean install of drivers when you install them.

For Nvidia go to Control Panel > Device Manager. Find your card in Display Adapters, right click it and click 'Uninstall' Then install your downloaded drivers. There's some issues doing the same with AMD though, can try uninstalling CCC first then doing the same.
