Hi! I'm sort of a newbie to this game. I've actually owned it for a while but it's just lately I've become really "hooked" on this game, and now I'm not playing anything else and there doesn't seem to be enough "flying" time for me.

Now, the question. During my exploits as a LW fighter pilot I recently faced a group of Su-2's. This plane is only briefly mentioned in the fact text for some other russian plane and I just wonder if someone can tell me a bit more about it?

Wellcome to Forgotten Board

Too many stuff to list...

click this Google Advanced Search link

http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en

copy and paste the line below...

sukhoi su-2

...into the "with the exact phrase" box, and hit ENTER (sometimes I must hit ENTER twice) or just click the Google Search button on top right.

Lots of stuff turned up for me.

Another way is to simply put quotation marks "" before and after the phrase. Google sees that as EXACT phrase too.

"Sukhoi SU-2"

It was a good project of ground attack plane, with good loadout, and a great defensive gunner turret (real badass against the fragile 1940/41 Emils), but it's engine was not reliable and was underpowered, making it a real widowmaker for the soviet pilots...

Sweet to fly, like Su~7.

Been thinking of what FP carrier bomber we will be able to use as Flyable Su~2 (or R~10 even), then we can join AI formations of Su~2 without having to use the Stuka from the other side.

Thinking of how well FP 1943 Ki~61 can be used as 1940 He~100D...

...like everybody here used Yak~1 as Spit~1, before AEP.

In fact the Su-2 had one of the best survival rates for Soviet bombers. According to Soviet Combat Aircraft by Gordon & Khazano an average Su-2 would make 80 sorties before being shot down.
A-20 Bostons made an average of 19, the Pe-2 averaged 20(when the 7.62mm rear gun was replaced by a 12.7mm it went up to 54).
The single seat Il-2 averaged 13 sorties before being shot down, the two seat averaged 26 (the rear gunner how ever only averaged 7).
The reason more use was not made of this fine aircaft was Sukhoi fell out of favour with Stalin, the production line was disbanded and no Sukhoi production aircraft were made until after Stalins death.
