I have been a loyal fan to this franchise. Ezio's trilogy has delivered some of the most amazing experience i have had in video games. That made me think that this franchise has got what it takes to be the best out there.I was dangerously over-hyped for AC3, and its performance broke my heart. But I still love assassin's creed, and for my loyalty i guess I will be buying ACIV. If you guys remember, ACI was also revolutionary and to some people was boring. I have seen few friends turned their backs on the series. But i had hopes. When ACII came, i got the game and IT WAS AMAZING! I would be happy if same goes for AC3 and Black Flag. I would be depressing if people left the franchise and ACIV turns out to be good. I still think it's worth a shot, i have my faith in AC. (Please bring Patrice Desilets back! And Jasper Kyd:o)

What is playing in your mind assassins?

III(3) was the last one I will buy
In fact, not buying UBIsoft anymore.
The last 4 games I bought from UBIsoft were such a dissapointment.
I fell for the "Well, they can't screw up <inserttitlehere>, it's too big to fail"...

I am just so confused right now... I do not even know if I should buy episode 2 of the Tyranny of King Washington... As a matter of fact **SPOILER** it takes place in Boston and considering the lag I have in Boston I do not know if it is worth my 10 euros. Generally speaking, I am a huge fan of the AC series. I have been playing the games since the 1st one achieving full sync in all of them. 3 was my favourite in terms of the protagonist, but, seriously, the performance was such a disappointment... I bought a whole new machine, just for this game and I felt so sad after I saw the major problems and the lack of optimization. This was something I had never experienced with my previous computer in any other game. I will probably wait and see if the PC version of Black Flag is going to be well optimized. If not I will have to suck it and give the series a rest for me. But, with it, the rest of my support to Ubisoft goes along as well...

I think I'm going to buy Black Flag for the Wii U. That's mainly because my AC3 performed actually pretty well on my Wii U and the PC version of AC3 apparently doesn't (on PC).
I don't really understand why people hate AC3, it was overall a good game, and I think Connor was a great character (and I'm sure we'll see more of him in a future title).

Most definitely.

ACB was left me wanting for more improvement but was overall a very enjoyable and still fresh experience

ACR was a letdown

AC3 was a massive disappointment

Its been going downhill for me...all the way.

Black Flags will (re)make or break my relationship with the franchise. I am very serious about this. I tend to be extremely supportive and optimistic.....but when I do let go...I do it for good.

I totally agree, this is the last shot. There are other franchises that never screws up BIG time, AC3 did. See what happened to mass effect, just the bad ending, but thats it. Rest of the game was perfect! But AC3 = bad ending+ poor missions+ short campaign+ many promises/ few implications+ boring landscapes. It was a disaster! This is it, ACIV is going to have to prove that Ubi has got what it takes to make this game great again.

WHERE IS THE FREAKING CANOE? DID THEY EAT IT?

This is the canonical thing that happened to it, because it's just so hilarious to picture in my head. As far as the actual question, yeah Black Flags is probably my "last shot" game, too. Unless they do something really cool with it down the road at some point.

Definitly not buying it. The entire team has been a massive disappointment for the PC community. I am a pc player and i won't get tricked again. So beautiful pictures we see here for black flag but what of it? Poor optimization? wrong improvements and boring side missions? more bullfight, less assassination? Well too late for that, i was heartbroken when i didn't buy AC3 then i did it because of my faith, seeing how i've been treated, i got a refund and i burried this license.
AC1 so revolutionnary, AC2 so many improvements and beauty it blew my mind, ACB ok and playable, ACR a warning for UBI, AC3 sorry i am not a blind monkey.
I am not trying a 3rd strike, it costs money for that and i can't afford it. BB UBI

I will probably get AC4 at some point, but only once it's dropped down in price. No more pre-ordering for me. After AC3 I'm going in with very low expectations, so the game can either be a positive surprise or predictably bad. If it's the latter, I'm done with the series.

For me AC4 is not the last shot. I mean for one who is to say that they don't make a great AC game ten years from now? I think the franchise will benefit from the generation switch as Ubi can potentially improve the AI, make the world more interactive with better physics, faster horses as they can stream the world faster etc. There should become less and less need for cutscenes to cover things up. All that being said nothing matters if missions are designed the way they are in AC3. Being lead from one green marker to the next is not only boring it's a bit insulting too.

I haven't given up on the franchise yet and AC4 sounds like a step in the right direction with more open-ended missions and more focus on sandbox elements. I hope they alos work to push the core pillars and design missions to take advantage of them. We shall see. I'm not pre-ordering but will wait for what some trustworthy sources have to say. If it is another "go from A to B and tap a button to interact"-game I'm out (but may of course come back for later installments).

I don't think any of us are thinking that far down the line just yet. :p Of course it's possible the series could always get an amazing reboot sometime in the distant future, but I'm thinking about the next 3 years or so. If AC4 is as disappointing as AC3 was (or even worse), then I don't see myself supporting the series for quite some time. I'm not saying I would never, ever buy another AC though.

As others have posted, Black Flags is make it or break it for me as well.... The first game was interesting, new, but repetitive and frustrating.
The second was phenomenal and I had only one complaint... DLC, I was 16 with no way to buy it and it was part of the main story... That aside the game was perfect.
Brotherhood came along and brought a new, innovative multiplayer and a story that wasn't that bad... The game wasn't $60 good, but it was good.
Revelations? Terrible... I can not name one redeeming thing about the game.
ACIII would take multiple paragraphs to explain but to summarize, it was a lazy flop... Like they didn't even try.

With Black Flags in development by a different team I'll give it a shot but it's quits after this if it's just another dissapointment.

This is actually why I'm excited for BF, because now I tell myself that it can hardly be worse than AC3. Somehow all the hype for AC3 made my subconscious predict that it wouldn't be such a great game after all, and I didn't feel that fluttering "new game"-feeling in my stomach. :/

I'm hoping that BF will utilize the new engine better, as they now have some experience of it.

I have been a fan of the series since ACI. No matter what happens I'll buy IV to see new techniques developed by ubi. There is a different kind of attraction to the series that keeps me from changing my mind. I have high hopes from IV since its the first in the series to be a prequel to the previous game. Ubisoft has tried something new with IV.

Something new isn't always that great(DMC). When it comes to franchise, devs should know what makes the franchise awesome. But it turned they didn't know anything about fans at all. In AC3, the emphasis was more on combat than on stealth. What do people expect from an open world game? Long campaign, interesting side missions (All mass effect,GTA, ACB and ACII), a world full of distraction - cool things that makes you forget about the main story some time and just explore the area (Skyrim, Far Cry 2 &3). In assassin's creed 3, both of these features are missing, the frontier was empty unless you want to collect feather to get a BS outfit (worst in the game), open chests and hunt(first its really good, but gets boring easily), and same stupid-*** fort mission that doesn't have any variety (All 7 forts are taken in same way). Side missions are just aweful(except Cpt.Kidds missions, which was short lived).

Main campaign is shortest is the whole series just ~48 missions
ACII had about 100, brotherhood was short on main missions but had tonnes of awesome side missions (Christina, Leo's war machines, Romulus' lair)
Revelations was meh, but still longer that AC3 on main campaign.

So yeah, they did try new things, most of them sucked a**. (Naval missions are sweet, although short-lived)
No pre-order for ACIV, but will try it by either borrowing or getting it on steam sale.

Very much looking forward to AC4. For the sake of folks with lesser rigs than mine, I really hope Ubisoft upgrades their optimization so everyone can play it on the superior PC platform. I am also very glad they flushed the crew that made AC3. While AC3 was good in some areas, in most areas it was a big downgrade from AC2 / ACB in my opinion, particularly in storytelling, and the assassinations themselves.

What i would love to see in AC4 :
- Emphasis on the Creed
- Choose better cities for great visuals
- Proper challenge ( i finished AC3 without changing anything and it felt really easy+i never used bow or dart rope)
- Proper optimization
- Bring back some of the old multyplayer modes and Abilities( Escort, Templar vision,Charge)
-DONT ADD DLC MULTY MAPS, KEEP THE COMMUNITY UNITED
-Proper main character+culture

And a 20+ hrs of main campaign length! Come on, am i the only one who found the main campaign to be really short? The only thing that adds to gameplay hours is stupid feather collecting and fort capture, which isn't even fun!

I know I am late to the game in finishing AC3. I agree with above,,AC1... Loved it compelled me to buy AC2 ....agree with above AC2,,, amazing...led me to AC3...Simply everything was great, but the ending. Compelled me to read other's thoughts on the net. Desmond deserved a better ending. Will I buy AC4..its on its way. Ubisoft create a creditable ending for AC3 and make it downloadable. So many better ways, After Desmond states he made his choice. "We makes his own choice" , grabs the apple, takes the "battery" out, walks over to a wall and touches it "fire in the hole" . Lets get out of here. The group runs out of the cave and you here an implosion. The group climbs a nearby hill and watches the mountain collapse. One ask what are we going to do? Desmond turns to the group and states we need to find the other temples and destroy them. The group gets into the van and drives away. The last scene is Desmond practicing with the hidden blade moving it in and out....just a thought....Ubisoft can let Desmond go off into the modern world...needed to get that out of me ...hope ubisoft listens

Then what about the solar flare?

It would have happened as predicted in 3, starting the cycle all over again. Desmond didn't want a war that has been going on for... forever to start anew, in his name even.

The way they did it was great. Desmond was planned to go anyway, and they way he did it was the way an Assassin would have done it. Self sacrifice to save others.

Haha, a thread from the whinning times... Personally, AC4 renewed my love for Assassin's Creed ten times over. Can't wait for Aveline's story, for Ade's adventure and to meet the Egyptian assassin!

Well, to anyone that may care, AC4 was great, way better than AC3.
Now, I got for free with my graphics card with the current nvidia holiday bundle, but I would say its definitely worth to try it out.
It's definitely not optimized for PC, it uses only one of my cores at 100% load and others at around 20%, but the graphics are way better than any of the previous games; characters, textures, godrays, water, the whole map is gorgeous.
There are ocassional glitches and poor animations, but overall gameplay is excellent. Load times are good, and most map transitions are seamless, with the exception of major cities.

I can highly recommend it to anyone doubting doing it due to the letdown that AC3 was.
