Also, press were shown a gameplay demo. They usually show the press the demo and then release it a few months after for the public, but with the leaks, they might have no choice but to spoil us. XD

The media will describe the demo they saw, so unless there's ANOTHER trailer or (please God I know it won't happen but please please) some gameplay, we'll just get some new screens and descriptions of gameplay.

Waitaminute what "details" are you guys talking about?? All I got today was a badass trailer. And just so you know, I'm actually excited... The game has so many potential. The only thing I can say is: **** whatever people thinks... Just make the game absolutely mental.

Not to be a downer, but I severely doubt it. They likely have only a very early build of the game finished. What the press saw is probably going to be vastly inferior to the polished-up gameplay trailer we'll be getting in a month or two.

I'm telling you, shovel beat downs. It's gonna happen.

Their gonna get on stage, or whatever, and say,"Well, we were originally gonna show you all these trailers, give a release date, talk about the features....but since we leaked more info last week than people on the Ubi forums b*tched about the lack of Connor's nipples, here's what we were gonna save for last" and BOOM! Shows a montage of shovel beat downs.

New most powerful heavy weapon? A shovel. New multiplayer pre-order character's weapon? A shovel. And then......I will be happy.

Seriously though, what's the harm in hoping for something to be revealed today? Its not as if I'm pinning my life's earning on it and I'll become a heartbroken gypsy if it doesn't pull through. If something is revealed, well and good, if not.. meh.

It may be you get early access to the trailer if you share it on facebook, but the media coverage will start 4:30PM GMT. Now since we all have seen the trailer early access is kind of useless. What I want is the interviews, additional game info and so on. Don't get too hyped for what's happening in thirty minutes. Chances are it's nothing interesting.

I liked this:

"Kill someone in direct sight of the city guard, for example, and you’d quickly find yourself wanted by the authorities. In Black Flag, this system has been tossed out, as navigating the wide ocean and traveling from location to location makes this sort of “worldwide alert” illogical."

Modern day is gone!!! We as the player is the modern day protagonist. Yiii-haaaa great move Ubi :D!!!

Ubisoft is attempting to find the delicate balance between the game’s Caribbean setting – where the bulk of the game takes place – and its modern counterpart, where a significant amount of lore is held. The team hopes that it can incentivize hardcore Assassin’s Creed fans to step outside the world of pirates and explore the Abstergo facility, by providing a variety of unnamed activities and information as a means of reward.

It’s doing this by making you, the player, part of the narrative. Though details were purposefully left vague, you are a person hired by Templar-controlled Abstergo Entertainment to research a pivotal moment in Desmond’s ancestry. You’re told to look into Edward Kenway – and away you go.

Modern is still there. Kinda disappointed though about playing Desmond's memories as a Templar.

It's there but it's optional by the sound of it. They use the word "incentive", meaning they are trying to make the player want to play the modern part, but it's not cumpolsary before (this is my interpretation at least). Perfect move, sghould make all of us happy :)

CM: We’ll reveal more and more about the trading system in the coming weeks, but suffice to say the idea is that you’re not just hunting treasure chests. You’re going out, you’re robbing cargo from these vessels, you have to go back to land, you sell it. Everything you do in this world feeds into the main economy.
One of your primary objectives will be to upgrade your ship, because with a powerful ship you’ll be able to take on the bigger ships that are guarding certain areas of the map. Which you won’t be able to access unless your ship is tough enough to take them out. So there’s this great gameplay loop of engaging, stealing, selling, upgrading, engaging bigger ship, accessing more of the map…

- Takes place in the earlier half of the 18th century
- Set off the east coast of Northern America where piracy thrives
- Stars Edward Kenway, father of Haytham and grandfather of Connor
- AC4 is part of the “Kenway saga” of Assassin’s Creed games
- Where Haytham and Connor were present at the dawn of a new democracy, Edward will be tested by the failure of the old one
- Edward is a more charming, clever, and reckless character than Connor
- When Black Flag starts, Edward is already a pirate
- Black Flag director Ashraf Ismail stressed that his global team was focusing on placing Edward into a more historically accurate take on this era – no parrots, no Krakens, no theme park shine
- Looking to be grittier, more true to the dark, rough reality of the era
- Ismail references Kurt Sutter’s twisted, gritty, grounded television show “Sons of Anarchy” a few times when describing his vision for a cast of characters that encompasses Charles Vane, Calico Jack, Blackbeard and more
- Montreal-based team
- Singapore, Sofia, Annecy, Kiev, Quebec City, Bucharest and Montpellier assisting on the project
- “first true naval overworld”
- Black Flag aims to blend between its land and aquatic experiences seamlessly
- Edward can dive off of his ship, swim to the shore of one of 50 or so locations in the Carribbean, and explore
- No loading or segmented feel for the above
- Variety in these locales
- Locations range from plantations and jungles to Mayan ruins and exotic coconut islands
- Three major cities: Havana (described as analogous to ACII’s Venice in terms of vertical emphasis), Nassau (the home of the so-called Republic of Pirates) and Kingston (a very dangerous, British-run city)
- Land-based portions are around 60% of Black Flag’s main missions
- Some Far Cry 3 developers are on board
- All of the game’s activities, from hunting and harpooning (water-based hunting) to exploring underwater environments, will feed into a larger sense of progression and evolution of play
- Edward can upgrade his equipment in a variety of ways
- Can upgrade the Jackdaw ship and its crew as well
- More complex and deeper ocean-based warfare compared to ACIII
- New weapon types, enemies, and challenges
- Edward uses a spyglass to view ships and islands from a distance, which communicates valuable information on a destination or foe prior to any sort of engagement
- Can exploit weather patterns, luring the opposition into less than ideal conditions such as dynamic storms, to their advantage
- Can board an enemy’s ship
- Your goal with any ship-to-ship fight is to eliminate the other captain
- How you choose to do this is up to the player
- Ship has a swivel gun
- Up to four pistols can be used depending on your upgrades
- Ubisoft wants to remove some of the barriers that previous games created, leaning more on open-ended directives
- Less about hand-holding and more about providing basic objectives with flexible conditions for satisfying said objectives
- Team is refining game systems for things like detection and stealth, so players better understand how the game “reads” their actions
- Ismail noted that his team has, from the start, been focused on building mechanics within the pirate theme that the story then supports – not the other way around
- Notoriety system has been tossed out since navigating the wide ocean and traveling from location to location makes this sort of “worldwide alert” illogical
- You are a person hired by Templar-controlled Abstergo Entertainment to research a pivotal moment in Desmond’s ancestry
- You’re told to look into Edward Kenway – and away you go
- Ubisoft is attempting to find the delicate balance between the game’s Caribbean setting – where the bulk of the game takes place – and its modern counterpart, where a significant amount of lore is held
- The team hopes that it can incentivize hardcore Assassin’s Creed fans to step outside the world of pirates and explore the Abstergo facility, by providing a variety of unnamed activities and information as a means of reward

Set at the dawn of the 18th Century, the game features some of the most infamous pirates in history, such as Blackbeard and Charles Vane, and takes players on a journey throughout the West Indies during a turbulent and violent period of time later to become known as the Golden Age of Pirates.

MasterAssasin84
03-04-2013, 01:08 PM

Ubisoft® Journeys Into The Savage Golden Age of Pirates With Assassin’s Creed® IV Black Flag
The New Assassin’s Creed® Arrives in Stores Starting on October 29
SAN FRANCISCO — March 4, 2013 — Today, Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed® IV Black Flag, the next installment in the company’s best-selling franchise. Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag introduces an all new hero and setting, and will feature the most diverse and seamless Assassin’s Creed world ever created.
In development for nearly two years, the game is being spearheaded by one of the veteran Assassin’s Creed teams in Ubisoft Montreal with support from Ubisoft studios in Annecy, Bucharest, Kiev, Quebec, Singapore and Sofia. Assassin’s Creed® IV Black Flag will be released on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, PlayStation®4 from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., Nintendo’s Wii U™ system, Windows PC and other next generation consoles. The game will be available on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Nintendo’s Wii U™ system on October 29, 2013.
“With the new hero and new setting we are creating the boldest and most unique Assassin’s Creed game yet, while still respecting the pillars of the franchise that have made it such a fan favorite,” said Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft. “Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag is based on a true, harsh and exciting part of a legendary era and will thrill longtime fans and newcomers alike.”
Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag tells the story of Edward Kenway, a young British man with a thirst for danger and adventure, who falls from privateering for the Royal Navy into piracy as the war between the major Empires comes to an end. Edward is a fierce pirate and seasoned fighter who soon finds himself embroiled in the ancient war between Assassins and Templars. Set at the dawn of the 18th Century, the game features some of the most infamous pirates in history, such as Blackbeard and Charles Vane, and takes players on a journey throughout the West Indies during a turbulent and violent period of time later to become known as the Golden Age of Pirates.
Gameplay in Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag is based upon the franchise’s proven tenets. Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag features a vast open world with more than 50 navigable locations. Combat combines the weaponry of the Assassin’s Order with armaments of the era, and rewards both daring and stealth. And the series’ acclaimed multiplayer experience is more varied and ruthless than ever in Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag.
Customers who purchase Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag on PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 can download 60 minutes of additional gameplay via the PlayStation Network after the game’s launch.
Customers who pre-order Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag at GameStop® will receive a Limited Edition collectible poster (while supplies last) featuring artwork created by legendary, award-winning artist Todd McFarlane.

So there'll be no loading screens, like it was in AC1,2 and 3 while entering cities? Does this mean that basically the entire map is one giant ..well map?

"Refined AC III"

Tell them that they love that...

"Random events"

Oh they fall for that too

"Best AC game ever"
Right there right there...Jack pot

Wasn't ACB a refined version of AC2?

Yes... at least in gameplay terms.

So... it's AC3 in the Caribbean, with dual-wielding swords and an improved naval system. Even if there was NOTHING else to know about this game, that would be plenty. I don't care if Edward is just like Ezio; I LIKED EZIO. If this game delivers some good AC gameplay, I'm all over it.

Also the map won't have the instant desynchronization barriers from previous games. There will be areas you can't reach in the beginning, but they are guarded by big man-o-wars, so you have to upgrade your boat first if you want the destroy those ships and access said area.

According to Kotaku we will be able to explore "the full shoreline of Cuba" which is just massive. I have no idea how they were able to do that. I guess there will be something blocking us from getting to the center of the island though, because otherwise it would be nuts.

So this one really makes me wonder... a person, so, just an average Joe? I suppose Abstergo would be after the almanach that Haytham had in ACIII, most possibly because they're after yet another piece of twcb technology. Now why would be just 'a person' tasked with it? Do you think it's an Abstergo agent in fact? Ottso Berg has not been introduced to the franchise without a reason, so I'd like to think at least.

Guesdon highlights how you’ll be able to go from exploration on land to hopping on to your boat, sailing to a new location and docking at your destination without a canned animation in sight. This extends to harpooning whales, diving down to the rotting bones of a wreck at the bottom of the sea and engaging ships on the open water, all dynamically computed in real time.
There are caveats, as Guesdon admits that he “can’t promise that there won’t be loading time” and although none of the expansive map will be blocked off behind “artificial barriers”, Kenway will not be able to access all of the locations right from the off. Instead, his ship (the Jackdaw) will require upgrades and customisation if it’s to take on the bigger galleons guarding certain island locations. These will undoubtedly play host to critical-path plot events and suggest an open-world where the pace of forward progress is controlled.

It's probably too hard to implement, because it would negate character progression and it wouldn't work with some of the gameplay mechanics.
Also, there won't be naval multiplayer either, according to one of the articles (don't remember which one).

Things that actually made me excited:

1. They said they don't want people seeing this as a sea game with land elements and that its just one whole thing
2. No loading times, E.G you are on a boat, see an island, and can swim there without loading times
3. Edward is very customisable
4. They acknowledge people liked AC1's approach to targets and are using that ideology again
5. 60% Land Missions 40% naval
6. Focusing more on stealth elements
7. PS4 version is going to have extra enhancements! Better lighting, Physics and graphics :D!

I think it's an older Connor.
I may get a heart attack during gameplay if he suddenly makes an appearance!! (He could narrate Edward's tale or something... He may want to tell it judging from the leaked ToKW audio).

Every little bit of detail given I'll take with a bucket of salt. These 'amazing' looking screenshots hardly reflect what the final game will look like. Not hyped.

Sometimes screenshots are downsampled from the game engine running at maybe 4k to make it as detailed as possible to show off the texture work etc.

This is done so that people have the highest quality artwork to use on sites /publications.

You can do it on PC with any game - so while some may think it's 'cheating' you can do it yourself - however you do need a monster rig to get playable frame rates.

Some games look just like artwork - such as Crysis 3 etc

Seriously? Graphics are not a concern anymore considering next gen AND the fact that they are bringing in stealth and ideology from AC1! ISNT THAT ENOUGH?!

Has it already become a new trend to make such videos out of that trailer:

They got with the open mission structure and no loading screens between locations.

If you can ensure me that these features will actually end being in the final game...It`ll be enough for me

Those are lovely too. Means there is no breaking of immersion which I really like too. I have a thread saying things that are making me excited. This game has the potential to be the best AC game. And Im not just saying that because its a new one! With AC3 all that was talked about really was how badass Connor was, his fighting style and the cities mostly. But for them to actually say AC1 and stealth just makes me cream.

I can't ensure anything, but for them to even say such a thing they best do it. I mean think about how many old school AC1 fans this is exciting, if they screw this up there will be a lot of angry people.

Downsampler here, I play at 2160p(what you call as 4k) and it looks awesome, needs a lot of resources but totally worth it and ina year or so new cards will probably fix that up.

But the pics Shadey are definitely bullshots. Not trying to undermine you or anything.
