I noticed sometime in December that Steam had removed IL-2 1946 from their catalogue and it seems that Ubisoft has done the same.

removed from Steam?: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2955816

You can still find Cliffs of Dover at the Ubisoft store but Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 is not showing up when I search for it.

According to thinkr at the steam forums this is the old Ubisoft store link.

I already own the game... When I click view store Page it Says Error Code -302...

Apparently UBI's own store page also doesn't have the game any longer available for purchase.

Mainly I am wondering if this removal of IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 was just an oversight when they updated the Ubisoft store?

It's still on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/IL-2-Sturmovik-1946-Pc/dp/B000N4JENW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1360658079&sr=8-2&keywords=il2
But they're saying only 12 left in stock...

Thanks for the reply Tully. :)
There are 28 new and 8 used copies now.

In a round about way I was trying to find out how much longer they intend to support these forums.
If they have dropped IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 from their list of titles available for purchase are some or all of the forums related to it far behind?

Imo it will be a sad day for the IL-2 community if that happens since there is still lots of history and knowledge linked to posts on these forums.
Not that it isn't hard enough to find a topic with the new search feature of these forums but having to try and find something using the Internet Archive would be next to impossible...

Ubisoft forum management discussed closing this forum group a couple of years ago but out of respect to the maturity and helpfulness of the forum members it was left open. At that time traffic levels were still fairly healthy but given the fall off over the last 18 months we may not be able to make the same case should the question arise again. There's not been any hint of this at this stage, but the forums get reviewed once or twice a year so who knows.

Nevertheless we've had a longer run than most games and I'm glad of it. :). Here's hoping we can continue!

Yes, this place still has a pulse but it's weak. Hoping mechanism engaged. Chin up and all that.

Well them stopping selling it was a matter of time, I have lurked here but hadn't seen much to comment on recently. Never did totally get on board with the new forum design, but I guess that's progress.

I still fly this game, not as much as there's life too :nonchalance: I will say that for me to be flying one sim for so long will be hard to match in the future I think. All the more credit to the original developers.

All hail Oleg ;)

Just in case they close this down before I comment again, it's been nice fellas. See you around the mod sites or something.

There's no hint of the IL2 forum group closing for the time being. I think as long as it maintains the mature, civilized, helpful environment we've enjoyed for so long and there's still some traffic it's probably likely to remain open.

As Wheelsup mentioned on the first post, there's such a huge repository of knowledge about the IL2 games in these forums, it'd be a huge loss to the community and Ubisoft's support team if it were to be removed. There's been a number of times I've seen support refer a technical question to these forums 'coz the solution is unsupported (meaning even though it works, it's not officially tested and they're not allowed to suggest it). They're confident that in this forum group, the community will respond in a helpful and useful manner. There's not many internet game forums where you can say that, in many forums the most polite answer n00b questions will get is RTFM or "Ctrl-E" ;)

Yah you are right in that the typical demographic has been on the mature side vs. other gaming genres in general, Tully.

I think that is one of the things that helped me to stick with the game so long: people from around the world interested in the same type of history as I was. I have been grateful that my exposure to IL-2 helped me to learn about so many different (and historically ignored) theaters of operations. Also to be so exposed to so many different types of people from everywhere that otherwise I would not have known.

And whose life would be complete without reading one of RAIID'S illuminating posts (hey, you still out there? ;) )

Cheers
