While we are on the subject of Pacific theater sims, here is an idea which TTBOMK has never been implemented in a flight sim. That is carrier based aerial operations. In much the same vein as Rowan's BoB, such a sim could be played and enjoyed on multiple levels.

One one hand, there would be the familiar plane versus plane aerial fighting and plane versus surface ship attacks which we all know and love.

At the next level up, there would be the management of the aircraft aboard the carrier itself: Planning and organizing air strikes, selecting the ordnance loads, deciding how to order the various squadrons for launch, perhaps even manning and firing AAA against attacking enemy a/c.

At the next higher level would be organizing the ships in your task force to provide best possible AA defense, tracking incoming enemy strikes by radar, vectoring CAP fighter assets to intercept, launching additional fighters, maneuvering the task force in response to enemy air attacks.

At the highest level would be overall command and wargaming an entire battle between opposing carrier task forces a la Coral Sea, Midway, Santa Cruz, etc.

You could do the Pacific for a start and then issue an expansion pack for Mediterrnean ops.

It would also be interesting to provide a feature for kamikaze attacks, wherein the striking a/c as well as its bombload would inflict damage upon a ship. Historically there actually were very carefully thought out attack tactics for kamikaze strikes. I think that it would make a fascinating option. Think about trying to fly your 600 mph Baka flying rocket bomb into your favorite American battleship or carrier.

I think such a sim would sell a TON of copies.

..... and if such a sim ever does come to pass, I hope that the Victory at Sea theme music will be used.
