Just witnessed the german flak actually shoot at several B17 crew men whilst they were swinging underneath their parachutes. It killed all but one in the end.

Quite shocking! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

In real life, Friendly AA also shot down friendly parachutists, from time to time. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

How inconsiderate!

The first time my a/c was hit by flak and, after bailing out, I found myself target practice for 20mm AAA, I was really teed off. The next time, I rode the plane down (and as far away as possible) before jumping.

But I don't recall ever being shot by AI fighters or online pilots while coming down. But I don't fly online that much.

Makes me think of when I was flying an offline campaign back in the IL2 days (has it been that long?). In some early version of the 109 finger four formation just cruising along at around 3K meters or so. Then all of the sudden the AI bird on my right EXPLODES and people start shouting in the radio. Poor SOB took a direct hit from a flak gun with the first round fired. It scared the hell out of me. LOL

I made a mission back a piece with Ju 52s dropping paratroopers on a well-defended Red (was supposed to be British, but lacked British Objects http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif) fortification. I had the fort well-defended with AAA, and after the planes were out of range (the AAA didn't have much luck downing them http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif), the AAA vicously picked off the poor paratroopers. I think AI guns target anything in their range of fire.
In fact, I couldn't get enough paratroopers to tha ground, so I had to bomb the heck out of the place first.

AAA also attacks ground units. The hardest part about building a ground battle for a mission is getting the AAA close enough to the front to cover the troops but far enough away so they won't engage the enemy tanks and trucks.
