View Full Version : Assassin's Creed 2 Retexture project

I always thought Assassin's Creed 2 as the best game in the series, but the years pass and the graph starts to become outdated, unfortunately we can not improve the gameplay (like the combat system in AC Brotherhood, or parkour in ACIII) but fortunately we can improve the textures through the program Texmod. This project is based on improving all textures of Assassin's Creed 2. Citizens, buildings, menus, effects.

To relive this wonderful game. I have some experience with textures and I'm doing the best I can. Now it may seem little, but eventually we will have great results and beautiful graphics. But this design is great, and I would love for everyone interested with texturing experience embrace this project.

All the content still very wip. Need improvement, a lot of improvement.

Sorry for my bad english, i'm not american.
And always remember, nothing is true, everything is permitted.

Here are some pictures of what I've done so far (small pictures to not disturb the forum layout, larger sizes soon in moddb):

This is really impressive work! I like it! Some textures look very simple and it makes them in fact bad but most of your textures are really good and are improving visuals, great job!

Are you going to post some "alpha" version of your mod soon? Or you will wait with publishing it to end of your work on it?

Remarkable. One of my all-time favorite games is getting a retex mod :)

What did you use to unpack texture files?

Your English is good enough, but use "cloth" instead of "tissue".

Lestat_cv

Yes my friend, very soon a Alpha ^^ I use a program called texmod, google it to know how to use it, only for PC version.

I know what texmod is. I was hoping that you found a way to edit and replace the actual game files. I don't particularly like texmod.

im not a modder, but is it possible to mod the game so that Ezio can equip the glove and pauldron that was featured in consept art before the game was released ?, also when´s this finished ?

leCarrot
01-20-2013, 07:32 PM
You've done unbelievable work! I like what you've done with the colors, but did you know you can achieve almost the same by turning down the brightness of the game?
And will this mod be compatible with the Mac version of AC2? Please don't say no...

(btw, my first post here, so hi to everyone :p )

Lestat_cv
01-20-2013, 07:46 PM
@ Nitres15: No my friend, not. The only thing possible using texmod is edit the textures, not the model. I really would love if Ubisoft release an SDK for the old AC engine, allowing we make really good mods, like textures, models, maps and everything.

@LeCarrot: Friend, is not about brightness, is about saturation, is not only brightness, is sharpenned textures, a little detail added in normal maps, and in gameplay you will see the difference, try to look the high resolution screenshots in moddb, just click on a screen and click in view original and you will see a big screenshot.: http://www.moddb.com/mods/assassins-creed-2-retexture-project ^^
And well... I don't know if is compatible with mac, because use texmod to work and texmod works with directx9. I only tested on Windows. But you can be a beta tester if you want. Soon I will release an alpha and a tutorial how to use texmod

I Hope all understand the project is just starting and soon we will have really High resolution texture remakes, people who have experience with textures of any type can join in the project ^^

How does texmod work, if you don't just replace the game files? Excellent looking work, I must say.

But forgive me, I gotta have a Shaun moment...

is it possible to make Ezio´s robe a little dirtier, like you did with the ground ? Kinda like in the 09 e3 trailer

Lestat_cv

I really don't remember that trailer, you mean the cinematic trailer? I will try.

leCarrot
01-21-2013, 06:21 PM
Maybe not dirtier, but some extra detail and sharper textures for the outfit could be welcome.

Oh, and I misphrased the comment on brightness and saturation. What I meant is that with the default brightness the colours look somewhat bleached out, and turning it down makes the colours seem more vivid and saturated, but takes away some detail from faces.
Anyway, it's great to see the saturation enhanced properly, can't wait to see the finished product.

Is it possible to add better skin textures for people, at least on the level of Brotherhood? One of my biggest complaints about AC2's graphics is how plastic and shiny people's faces look.

Lestat_cv
01-21-2013, 10:37 PM
@ Sixkeys: Yes my friend, is possible, and one of my objectives, after remaking the clothes. If you want to join in the project, and have experience with textures or photoshop, feel welcome, I don't want this be only my project, but the community project.
Here a little tutorial how to make: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRsXRR4vHuc

It is not pathetic, is smart from the standpoint of game design.
It's smart, in the area of game design it's called economy of resources, you use the same texture for various purposes, but what do changes is the 3d model.

@ leCarrot (http://forums.ubi.com/member.php/1298601-leCarrot) : A little impact, ig you have a good pc you probaly don't have great impact. And gameplay will works fine.

Also, yesterday I was working on a old man texture, and I show to a friend, so ignore the "suco de laranja" phrase , is a joke. But, not ignore the texture, and I decided to show the texture to you.

Better textures should probably fix that. Connor's outfit doesn't look shiny because they used actual fabric textures for his outfit.

BTW, I forgot to ask, are you going to make any changes to the facial models of main characters like Desmond, Lucy etc.? It would be nice if they looked closer to how they look in ACB.

Lestat_cv
01-24-2013, 02:05 AM
Well I will try a idea to make the suit less shiny, but i'm afraid I can't do much, because the game lighting. But I will try :D
And Yes, I'm trying to make the faces more realistic, Shaun, Desmond, Lucy, Rebecca and the clothes too. For example, the Rebecca Clothes are now the ACB clothes.

Woooo, wonderful project. I'm just worried about Texmod but there is no alternative to that because the engine is locked. Good luck mate.

EDIT: Will there be a testable version soon? I wanna try it and if I can I'll work on an AC2 config like I did for AC3 (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/728927-Assassin-s-Creed-III-PC-color-mod).

i really hate to bury you in questions but... have you noticed how the city looks during the mission "well begun os half done" ?. Is it possible to make the look like that ? Venice is way too bright in this game. And (again, i really hate bombarding you with questions) can you make the water in venice green ? (like it is in real life)

I don't know if I would like the water in Venice being green. I kinda like how bright and shiny everything looks there. It is supposed to be the crowning jewel of the cities in the game, after all. I don't mind if that means the water looks more clean and pure than it does in reality, it's more about the atmosphere being evoked.

Lestat_cv
01-25-2013, 01:49 AM
SixKeys is right, I will not change the color of the water. I'm trying to keep the original atmosphere of the game balanced with reality, and change the water texture would be a disaster (and like the blood and random colors of citizens works like a carcols system of GTA)

About the city looks... is just the time of the game, believe me.

But, all we want is results:

Will you be releasing all of these fixes in one pack once you've done all the tweaking you want for the whole game? There is one thing that really bugged me in the last few chapters of the game and it's that once Ezio gets his beard his face appears to be pale as a ghost from that point onward. Is this something you'll be able to tweak?

Here you go - http://forum.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=368880

And :| I actually like my AC3 config (http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/728927-Assassin-s-Creed-III-PC-color-mod-Forums) for obvious reasons...

Oh that, well obviously it was made for AC3 :P

I haven't yet worked on an AC2 version. This was just for what he asked, the yellow overdose in Venice.

Few more changes, reaching closer to the goal.

Could you put some before and after screenshots for these improvements, and when do you think you'll have the final product of some of these improvements you've been working on?

hi guys . can anyone tell me how to use texmod with this game. i just started playing this game again and i saw some mods for this.
apparently you can change the colors of the cape . i really just wanted to do that and i saw a youtube video of some guy telling how to use texmod , but when i do all those things it doesnt work.
its like when you select the ac2game .exe. with the texmod and then run the game your game runs with the some lines written on the top left side of the screen and then you can select the thing you want.
but my problem is that my game runs without it and i cant select anything. i just want to color the default cape to white. i saw many videos where people have colored the cape in many different colors.
any help regarding this is greatly appreciated . thanks

What happened to this project? Unfortunately, the OP hasn't been on since February...I just hope that everything is ok with him and maybe someday he'll finish this...

Amazing work! i never even noticed citizens had jewelry, so with AC2 not being steam workshop how would this even work? or maybe we should petition ubisoft to make steam workshop or since they dont support valve an ubi workshop for older games?
