There is a beta patch available that apparently makes a great difference to performance while gaming. This patch is soon to time out (1st August), but a non beta version should be available in the next few days.

This is what was said officially:

"This release is primarily for Sound Blaster Audigy users and significantly improves gaming performance for all cards in the Sound Blaster Audigy range. It does however also provide benefits for the Audigy 2 family of cards (as shown below). This release is ideal for high-end gamers who want even better performance than they currently enjoy. This release has been tested by Creative Labs for gaming use ONLY. No other functionality has been tested.

**It should be noted that the Sound Blaster applications provided with your card may not function after installation of this driver.**

For mixer and speaker configuration the standard Windows apps can be used.

This release will be followed up with a final official driver update that will integrate the performance features with the core driver and application set. The beta release is designed to stop functioning on the 1st of August 2003 by which time the final release previously mentioned will be available.

This update is exclusively for Sound Blaster Audigy and Audigy 2 users running on Windows 2000 or XP ONLY.

Fixes & Features:

Sound Blaster Audigy Specific

-Sound Blaster Audigy performance increased by 10%-15% for EAX ADVANCED HD

-Number of simultaneous voices has been doubled from 32 to 64

------------

Sound Blaster Audigy and Audigy 2 Benefits

-Reverb presets setting by game audio engine is now on average 10X faster

-EAX Morphing performance enhanced, typically yielding a 2X improvement in frame-rates for morphed sections.

Operating Systems: Windows XP & 2000 only
Languages: N/A
Filename: aud_betadrv_030417.exe
Size: 13.6 MB"

Sure did take them a long time to get their act together.

HOPRFULLY, this will fix all the bugs people are having with these cards.

I have been thinking about upgrading to a Intel system but the fact that i would have to add this buggy card is a turn off.

Currently I use the Nvidia Soundstorm on my Nforce (rated by tom's Hardware as faster than Audigy2 in games) and have neve, ever had a problem with anything. This is probably because Nvidia is in tune with game developers (unlike other companies which I shall not mention)

The released drivers are those drivers and the audiohq update of 6/25? I believe the date is.

What bugs?

I am using an Audigy2 since December and so far I have not noticed any bugs.

i've been running these beta drivers for about a month or two, and they're stable. but to be honest, i've really not noticed much of a difference in performance over the official updated XP drivers (the ones that update the original Audigy CD drivers for XP).

Those betas came out sometime around early May. The 6/25 drivers are the new ones to replace it. I don't know why they still have them up.

I haven't seen the boasted performance increase in either version (well I guess 1-2fps would be it), but the drivers are good and stable. The sound is slightly improved, IMO.

The betas have a bug where the AudioHQ did not work in conjunction with the sytem audio panel when selecting speaker type. That annoyed me. This is fixed in the 6/25 version.

There are plenty of people who don't have issues with the Soundblaster cards.
